Following is a collection of tweets from Jeremy Hoeck: From athletic director David Sayler: 1) USD will present 2 projects to Regents next week, arena/track & soccer and health lab connector, 2) USD needs $12 million (for a variety of avenues) in the next 6-8 months; 3) arena project is $48M... 4) USD wants flexibility from BOR to do projects in phases, "build as we go." SDSU has a similar desire 5) Next step after BOR would be state legislature in January; 6) "significant interest" in track/soccer

According to a tweet from Jeremy Hoeck (the P&D), the Board of Regents approved the facility plan today. Next step is the legislature in January. With an 'okey dokey' from the legislators, and just $12 million more in cash or pledges, we will soon be seeing spades in the ground.

David Sayler on 1570AM right now on the On the John Show.
I'll tell you this. I can't wait for that track/soccer complex to be built. I am actually planning on taking in a women's soccer game in the new facility. That's saying something.
Track & field deserves a facility. Let's build this one right and something to be proud of. Make it the best T&F facility in the Summit.

Not going to renovate the Dome yet use the football program (making it play home games in Sioux Falls) as a pawn to get donations from Sanford. Nice.
Guess we've really reached the big time now, building the athletic department on the back of the football program.
Of course by not renovating the Dome and putting permanent seating on the west side they can now justify moving the SDSU game to Sioux Falls by just saying the Dome doesn't have the capacity. Self fulfilling prophecy, for sure.

that story is a little misleading. Dome renovations, specifically to add football seating on the west end, are on the back-burner. Arena and soccer & track deals are first priority. Dome will eventually get renovated, but you need to have the arena ready first so you can move everyone over.
they were not "AXED"

This has always been the plan. Don't overreact. The Priority has always been Basketball, soccer, track then the Dome, when ready. You can't do anything to the Dome until the Basketball Arena is done. You have to be able to move Volleyball and the old bball practice court to the new facility, move offices, etc.
Also, in order to get the foregoing done, you have to push it through the regents. If you want to do it all in one proposal, then you would have to raise significantly more money up front. You do it in stages.

RW&Y and Cousin Eddie are exactly right. Doing the expansion in stages has always been the plan and the Volante didn't get their facts straight.

The Dome has always been the final stage in all the athletic dept facility improvements. But significant improvements to the Dome have taken place over the past 2 years with new permanent seating and new turf. In the interim I wonder if it would be beneficial to replace the old bleachers with some new bleachers and if there are any short-term fixes to increase seating capacity?

I have actually offered to paint the bleachers red on several occassions and haven't heard anything back. In all seriousness, I think it would be an improvement.

More info on building projects....... Not sure if I am reading, or interpreting, this correctly but as I understand it, the $48 million mentioned in the following article would be for the arena and T & F. A figure of $58M has been used before but that included $10M for the "connector" building for sports medicine, kinesiology etc., and that funding comes from traditional educational building sources. The bigger question is with the foundation guaranteeing $24M ($14M currently pledged and $10 to be raised) is the money in place to start building next year? www.argusleader.com/article/20121206/SPORTS02/312060028/SDSU-USD-facilities-moving-forward?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|
