Good to see a timetable is starting to be set with the 2018 time frame. I kind of wish the start would be after the 2017 season but better a little late then never.
Time for some sarcasm. Everything has to be approved by the Board of Regents in South Dakota like they are the Kings of England. What the heck would they do if some anonymous donor hired a construction company and they just started working on the renovation on their own without approval from USD or the regents. The admin could just say they knew nothing about it but out of nowhere some construction company started working on the dome. Would the regents send in a police force to stop them. :-)

Anybody seen any renderings or heard of any concepts of what this may look like? Exciting stuff. I hope they use foresight and do this right the first time. Coyote Football has another 40 years in that building, given the comments in the article.

I'd love to see some concepts too. After the SCSC project, I have the utmost confidence in our administration to do this thing right.

www.sdbor.edu/the-board/committees/building-usd/Documents/Dakota%20Dome%20Interior%20Renovation%20Facility%20Design%20Plan%20final%209%206%2018.pdfHere is the most recent (and final?) plan released by the BOR. I don't know when this was released, but one of the renderings was dated from this summer. Looks like there will be luxury boxes just 8 feet above the field level, and the rest of the seating above that. Lots of bathroom and concessions space on the concourse level. The Lockers and lounge space for the athletes on field level, and the coaches offices and meeting rooms above the concourse. Also a "500 level" at the back of the stands for future luxury/press box expansion. The text says it will add an additional 4,300 seats to the west side. I wonder if that means a final capacity of 14,300 or 12,300, since there are 2,000 seats there now? Also, I wonder where they will put the band and students? Same location? I like having the band and students as close to the opponent's bench as possible, to get in their heads. Also, I wonder if they will offer existing season ticket-holders, Howling Pack members, first dibs on the new premium seating on the West side with the better facilities? It would make sense if they did that, probably in order of "priority points", right?

Maybe it would make sense to move the students and band to the east side, since they would be more than 8 feet above the field on the west side? Probably reshuffle the season ticket holders first, giving them move/upgrade options. (like if some move to the west, the east side holders could move forward/inward). Then establish a new "Coyote Crazies" and band section somewhere on the east side, like maybe the southeast or northeast corner? Just a thought...

Interesting that on the last picture it has an area that states future North addition.

The plans for the renovation are phenomenal. It will make our facility unlike no other in FCS. The entire plan is first class just like the basketball arena is.
The reason for potential north side expansion would be if we joined a league where minimum attendance facilities were more than what we will be. They could knock out the north side and put a seashell shaped seating arrangement there if it came to that. I’m guessing it’s highly unlikely, but still in the realm of possibility. The locker rooms, meeting rooms, and coaches office space is exceptional. Phase 1 also includes the outdoor practice facility which is getting close to being operational. They obviously stil have to lay the turf but that doesn’t take long.
The DakotaDome is gonna be great, and will be exceptional if all three phases get completed.

My only concern is getting the seating up to as close to 15,000 as possible because we're going to need the room eventually. Do it right the first time.

Getting those box seats front and center is going to waste a lot of space. You need a sideline in front of them, think how far back that main grandstand is going to be pushed, unless I am not seeing that right and the main grandstand is going to hang over the suites. Tough to tell by the picture. That grandstand could have a pretty steep incline and give you the feeling you are on top of the field.

Pretty sweet if you are in the boxes, maybe a little far from the field for the rest....
