Odds are that return from Montana will be a check and not the team.

As in this year? Is this something that recently developed?

This years game was a payout game. Next year is the first year of a home and home. They have a history of playing the first game of home and home in Missoula and buying out the return trip. That will be tough to do if they come here first.

I hope that the current President at Montana will discourage that practice of buying out away games so that they can get another home game. The President is former USD administrator Royce Engstrom.

Oregon game:
VERMILLION, S.D.—University of South Dakota football will open its 2014 season against University of Oregon on Aug. 30 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. The Ducks are a part of the Coyotes’ non-conference schedule which includes a trip to Montana (Sept. 13) and a home game against North Dakota (Sept. 20).
“This is an opportunity for our team to see one of the top programs in the United States and play in one of the nation’s best facilities,” said USD head coach Joe Glenn. “It will be an experience that our players will be able to share with their children and grandchildren. Financially, it helps out our department and helps make ends meet.”
Oregon will be the seventh FBS opponent for the Coyotes in five seasons and first from the Pac-12 Conference. South Dakota is taking on Kansas this season on Sept. 7. The Coyotes’ signature win against an FBS opponent was a 41-38 victory against Minnesota in 2010.
Per JH tweet: The $525K contract with Oregon is by far the most USD has received for an FBS game. Kansas this fall is around $400-425, Herbster said.
Also per JH: Also announced today, USD football will host North Dakota on Sept. 20, 2014. Nice to see that series renewed.
Update: Jeremy Hoeck þ@jhoeck 29m Update @tommillergf, no UND football game for USD in 2014. Coyotes hosting Northern Arizona that fall. Updated release was just sent out.

I am very happy that USD will be playing Oregon. I am getting tired of playing all midwest teams for the buy-in gaurantee games.

Adding in Kansas and K-State that would make it 5-2 in favor of playing midwestern D1 schools. Oregon is a nice addition. How about trying to schedule a SEC school next.

How about trying to schedule a SEC school next. The SEC teams tend to play FCS teams in November. I don't want to give up a bye week late in the year so that we can go get stomped down south.

I like this. I think it is important that we associate with the estranged Dakota school, and the Big Sky as much as possible. Plus it makes for a non conference game that people will get really excited for.
