Serious question: Who has the time and flexibility to purchase full passes to the SLT a year in advance? I know I don't have the time to take almost a week off of work to attend this event. Could I take a day here and there to attend Coyote games? Sure, but I need to know what days to take. I suppose I could buy the whole session pass but only attend Coyote games. Seems like quite an investment for a team that won 10 games and backed into a 7 seed. Bottom line, and this is what I am getting at, look at the demographics of the SDSU fanbase and the USD fanbase. USD puts out mainly professionals who work in offices. SDSU puts out a lot of people with ag degrees. Not too much planting going on in early March. Just saying. Alot of SDSU fans have time on their hands this time of year. Seriously? And why do you have take a whole week off from work? This tournament starts on a Saturday. Six out of the eight sessions are either on the weekend or at night. This response is the reason why the Yotes' crowd gets called out by the media. Frustrating to say the least.

Well, let's see . . .
Engineering degree from SDSU; Married another engineer; Retired early; Never lived on a farm or engaged in agriculture of any kind; Don't live in S.D. (Kansas City); Still have SDSU basketball season tickets; Don't hate USD at all--in fact I rather respect both basketball programs and your coaches, (Now, IPFW, on the other hand ;D (1))
/just one data point //not fitting the stereotype ///think it's kinda unfortunate that State-U silliness has hijacked a "Thanks, Team/Seniors" kind of thread--and that a board admin was the one what hijacked it. C'mon, man! (And yeah, you can call me out if I ever do the same thing over on our board--fair's fair.)
(1) This is in the nature of a running joke, folks . . . roll with it

And consistent with my track record as a deadbeat admin. I would say in my defense, however, that it was meant as more of a rallying cry than an ugly offensive. Definitely a hijack though. Timeout for me.

So I think Yote53 was making a valid point.

Alot of SDSU fans have time on their hands this time of year. I bought my season pass last October for this year's tournament. I live over 350 miles from Sioux Falls and had to request vacation days for Friday through Wednesday because I live far enough away that I needed travel days in order to make it to Sioux Falls by noon on Saturday and stay through the championship game on Tuesday evening. I also had to stay in motels for 5 nights, fill up my gas tank about four times, and buy a lot of restaurant food. I won't be doing this every year, but I was pretty confident about our Jackrabbit teams this year and hoped that it would work out that I would get to see a lot of Jackrabbit basketball. I also buy season tickets for football. Why? Because my South Dakota State University degree gave me a great career and a great lifestyle. South Dakota State University became an important part of who I am. I sat by a Northern State University Alumnus at the tournament on Saturday. He has a son that graduated with two degrees from USD and currently has a son enrolled in his third year at SDSU. He told me that he has never seen a group of alumni and fans as loyal to their alma mater as he sees at SDSU. Incidentally, I did not major in anything related to agriculture. My closest relationship the the ag world is that I eat. In fact, I eat very well!

If you were serious it's hilarious Regarding paragraph 1: I actually am kinda serious. It's asking alot of a family to take multiple days off work, travel, hotel, food, etc. All this with no guarantee a year in advance of the Coyotes being worth a crap. Now, if we had Nate Wolters coming back as a senior next season I might be more inclined... I get there are some who make this a vacation, great, good for them, I'm sure they enjoy it. If the format was setup where there was mostly single game tickets I'm sure the walkup crowd for USD would be tremendous. Just saying this is something USD fans need to experience and learn about, but, in reality it is not our M.O. as a fanbase to buy passes or season tickets. USD fans seem to be more of a walkup crowd. As for paragraph 2: c'mon, SDSU stereotypes run amok. USD is the professional school. SDSU is a bunch of farmers...do i need to leave a trail of bread crumbs? Dude, satire. As for threadjacking, well, sometimes threads meander and take on a life of their own. At least people are posting.

The first year that the Jacks played in the conference tournament, they were also a #7 seed against ORU. Luckily they were able to win one game before bowing out to Oakland. The women were #1 seed and played all three games much like the Yotes #3 seed women in 2013. There were many who walked up and bought general admission which started a few rows above the entrance tunnels in the upper balcony. The crowds were higher than expected and a couple of years later the general admission vanished. The new arena will likely have many seats available to the walk up crowd from USD should they make it to the game. Certainly USD would not have been one of the schools that turned tickets back in. We will wait for 2015 and the arrival of more red in the arena.

Yote 53's second paragraph pretty much describes me perfectly, hell I won't even buy any bred heifers if they are due before the SLT(LOL). This past winter I sat down with my banker( an SDSU grad btw) and updated my balance sheet. Turns out that even a small operation such as mine has a net worth well in excess of seven figures, and with both SDSU's men and women dancin this spring life is good.

That's our problem - State has all the one percenters!

Yote53, I have to respectfully disagree with you on this. Jacks fans have made this tournament a priority. It's difficult, of course, to quantify how winning and momentum influence their fans' buying habits, but they show up in great numbers. They prepare for it. While we may have a more white-collar tradition, there were plenty of SDSU alumni in the Arena who left offices to be there. Buying the session pass is exactly what you should do. The tournament starts on a Saturday. Assuming USD's men and women both make the tournament, you'll have a rooting interest in at least two sessions during the weekend games. I believe I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $115 for my pass, and I went to three sessions. It was well worth the money. My friend yotemeal's statement is correct. My wife and I have been to every SL tourney in Sioux Falls and it's very likely we'll continue to go -- even if SDSU's teams are in a down year. It's just a great time. We attend every game ... we may leave a little early on some but that's unusual. We bought our tickets for next year Saturday morning. It's on the calendar. And comments made by others about people engaged in agribusiness show a certain lack of understanding of what's going on in ag in modern times. Also, a significant number of SDSU fans including some of its most vociferous fans, have med, law and MBA degrees from USD and they were at the tourney. There's no reason why USD fans with the same degrees cannot be there supporting their teams. I encourage USD fans to buy all-session tickets now. Your women's team returns with the MVP and you men's team is sure to be improved.

From the Fargo Forum www.inforum.com/event/article/id/393130/Forget that noise,” Phillips said, only minutes after his team struggled to hear some of his instructions during Tuesday night’s title game. “I hear coaches complain about that and I want to tear my hair out – although that seems to be happening anyway. “This is a great environment. Look at our environment for a conference tournament compared to around the nation. You look at half-empty gyms in parking ramps somewhere. I mean, guys, this is pretty neat, pretty darn special. “If that means we have to come down here and play in a loud gym, you know what, we make that gym balance out. They just down sell tickets here in South Dakota.” “They don’t start selling Summit tickets in secret,” Phillips said. “I’m challenging our fans. Let’s fill this bad boy up next year … with us.” So... with all that being said... Saul Phillips is making no excuses for lack of Bison fans so why should USD make excuses when they are much closer. Bison Nation took over Howard Wood during a football game that was hosted by USD. There is no doubt some of the Bison fans took the words of Saul Phillips to heart and will buy all-session passes in 2014. In 2015, the capacity doubles with the new Event Center so that should help. It would be awesome though if getting a ticket is still difficult in 2015 and beyond.
