Never even knew what this was, but the Sagarin Ratings (Pre Season):
142. Some hick school in SD (75.18) 147. San Diego (74.77) 153. St. Bonaventure (74.41) 167. Canisius (73.66) 171. Loyola Marymount (73.47)
288. Thee University of South Dakota (66.39)
Hmmm, me thinks 288 and 142 are going to be moving in opposite directions. A lot like MVFC, FCS pre-season to actual results!

Irrelevant. Better showing by the Yotes today, was feeling pretty bleak about our chances after the very poor St. Bonaventure showing. Didn't exactly light the world on fire, but at least we pushed a team that did pretty well last year.

I sprung for the $14.95 and watched it live (with the Yotes at home for FB, I had it in the budget). I think you would have been impressed by the overall effort, they looked much better than game 1. Trey Norris is a big help at the point, he creates, he's quick and he hit some FTs and shots tonight. He also played the best defense against Baron, when they were in man-to-man. Gruis was a beast down low, and got some good minutes from Larson, Rowson, and Thoseby. Long way to go in the season.

Not trying to be the black cloud but if Joey James wants to keep his job beyond this season games against mediocre schools like Canisius are going to have to turn into W's. That is just the way it is. James shouldn't and hopefully doesn't have a long leash. St. Bonaventure is one thing as they are in the Atlantic 10 which is a good conference but if the Yotes want to be a mid level Summit team or higher they just have to win these types of games.

I agree that James should not have much of a leash, but Canisius would likely be a top 3 team in the Summit. Give his crew some credit for this performance, it was only their second game ever under James. Whole season ahead of the team, and they will improve. The question is whether or not they improve enough to merit James sticking around.

Holy crap CF, the season is only two games in, are we going to start this already? We don't need you calling for the coach's head after every game because it is going to get real old, real fast. I think Coach James is more aware than anybody that if he wants the interim tag taken off he is going to have to produce results this season. Obviously 0-2 is not the way any team wants to start the season. Let's see how this team improves from game to game and week to week. We all know the story of this season. Let's see how the book ends and then we can say if we are happy with the result or not.

Lets not take too much from first few games. New coach, new players, new style- give the coach and players some time to get adjusted and lets wait until we see how the conference season goes before we cast judgement on James. The guy bleeds red and will put the best players on the floor to give us the best chance for a winning season and to ultimately keep his job.

The question is whether or not they improve enough to merit James sticking around. Firstly Canisius is not a mediocre team, the MAAC is very good conference. Top to bottom probably on a par with the Summit league if not a little stronger. Secondly the yotes are fine, yes non conference are important but what really counts is going in to the summit league and proving that USD is better than it was last year. And this i believe in, the guys are hungry and will not come back happy with losses and will get in the gym and work on what needs improving. Thirdly, some of you guys are holding your ridiculous fewd for Boots again Joey, Joey wants nothing more than to get the Yotes to the tourney and win games. Give Joey a chance, his leash should be a long as any other coaches and his season is not going to pot just because of two losses on the road to quality opponents. Lets build on what we need to work on and come ready for the next game and ultimately the Summit league where I think the Yotes will still be a top 5 team. Go Yotes Ps lets have some enthusiasm for Yotes bball

Go Yotes Ps lets have some enthusiasm for Yotes bball Truth. Canisius is projected to finish high in the MAAC. They'll have a solid year in a decent league. A couple of observations from watching the game online. There were two clutch offensive possessions down the stretch that allowed the Griffs to win the game. Their guard hit a bomb from way down town and they also converted on a low-percentage floater, defended well by Bos, near the baseline. If either of those two shots hadn't fallen, we might have walked away with a W. Such is the game of basketball. We played with a lot of heart, despite giving up a lot of size, at times. One key to success this year, in my opinion, is the continued development of Flack. There will be situations that call for more length, and Trevor can't shoulder it on his own.

yotemeal is right about that low-percentage floater. If he could make that shot again, he belongs in the NBA.
