Fans,
Do you ever recall a period in time where USD had the quality of staff and coaches that we have now? Joe Glen is fabulous. I think Joey will be fine, jury is still out, but no one can question his charecter. Amy Williams is nothing short of fantastic. Not only as a coach, but as an ambassador of USD. Matt Houck simply put is awesome. Great coach, great role model, and great parent. Dave G, Lucky, and all the other coaches we have on staff are just fabulous.
And I think the job Dave Herbster is doing is great. He has fantastic support from another good guy, President Abbott, and he is doing a bang up job. Right now, USD is in a good way. Thanks to all staff, coaches, and support staff. You are wonderful.
Oh yeah....HATE STATE

Joey James is the only one that is questionable (rightfully so after only two games to his name), the other three have our teams competing for NCAA Tourney bids. I want to give props to David Saylor and everything he did for us, hiring Joe Glenn and Amy Williams, while also finding us a home in the MVFC. He did some great things for our AD.

HATE STATE isn't necessarily a statement of fact, it's more of a time honored salutation to the boys in blue and pee yellow.

Hate State belongs nowhere near the conversation about the incredible quality of coaches we now have. Go Yotes is infinitely more appropriate.

Hate State belongs nowhere near the conversation about the incredible quality of coaches we now have. Go Yotes is infinitely more appropriate. From the moment I signed, as an out of state athlete, there were two things beat into you. The song FIGHT SOUTH DKOTA and the phrase HATE STATE. Although I wasn't born a South Dakotan, I became one instantly. I love USD and all it stands for, perhaps more than most, and the phrase Hate State was drilled into me. And no matter the conversation, it's as appropriate to say as AMEN is at the end of a prayer. HATE STATE

I think what 1234 was alluding to was some posts earlier in the week about how we have so many bigger things ahead of us besides just the sdsu rivalry- which I totally agree with. The post about the great coaches was very 'big picture' and forward looking. The HATE STATE signature may have been misinterpreted as "well, we're still just happy if we beat state". I don't think it was intended that way. Let's all agree that we've got big things on the horizon and we're going to accomplish them, while at the same time HATING STATE and beating them if they happen to get in our way. Sound good?

In all candor I wasn't knocking 12345 or putting him down. We have a bright future and I can personally attest the MVC football grind is awesome. I go to just about every game, home or away, so I personally have experienced how much fun it is. Also, I authored the post saying what a great bunch of coaches we have, so I would have assumed the HATE STATE signature was not tied to it. Also I do want to say this. Too many people are trying hard to make the statement that the SDSU/USD game is just another game, but in reality it is a rivalry game. Ask any player from the past from either school who they wanted to beat more than anyone and they will answer it either USD or SDSU. That's the way it is between rivalries. If you don't agree then ask yourself why is this the only game sold out? And I'll bet the students stay the entire game. Why? Because its a rivalry game. That doesn't mean Youngstown isn't important, or either ISU, it just means USD beating the Jacks is important and SDSU beating the Coyotes is important. I have sports in their proper perspective, but 30+ years ago I was taught to Hate State. So when I say it just pretend we ended a phone conversation and instead of saying goodbye, I say HATE STATE.

In yesterday's joint video chat with Mick Garry and Terry V - Mick made a great point when the validity of the rivalry as it pertains to the fans was questioned. He said something to the effect of -- say what you will, but last year over 15000 showed up to see the Coyotes at CAS and the following week for the SDSU playoff game only 4000 showed up. It is a big deal to the fans and residents of South Dakota. As the series is played annually - it will become more important to the current players. As a former USD player that played in four USD/SDSU games - it is an important game to me. ALL of the former players that I talk to share that feeling. Getting to the playoffs, winning in the playoffs and advancing, getting to the title game, winning a National Championship - all of these are goals I know the current staff has for the program. That is on their mind with every decision they make. Another important goal is to beat sdsu. I make no apologies or hide my feelings in this regard. I not only am hoping for a USD win, but if given the opportunity I hope USD pours on a merciless beating of the Jacks that sends them whimpering off into the offseason. Fight South Dakota!

It is a big game, rivalry games are huge and we have a very fierce one here. What upsets me is the large group of people who only acknowledge the SDSU games, and Hate State being thrown around when SDSU has not one thing to do with the matter at hand. These portray that the only thing that people who follow USD athletics care about is beating State, which as someone pointed out earlier this week, should just be icing on the cake instead of the whole cake. I downplay the game just because I hate so many people acting like it's the only one that matters. It does matter, I just wish these people would show some dedication every week, those 6k crowds this year were embarrassing especially considering we have been playing some good football. I didn't mean to completely derail this thread, we should be very proud of the coaching staffs we have right now. Williams has been an unexpected success after losing Koupal, Houk has put together a top of the Summit volleyball team, and Joe Glenn is a legend. Great things from those three squads are coming in the very near future, and hopefully James is able to join in on our praise.

Don't know when the time-honored "Hate State" salutation was born but it was around in 1966 when I first showed up. Might it go back to the days when the South Dakota Agricultural College became South Dakota State College?
Don't know but one has to admit that it is short and easy to understand (if you know what I mean).

I had this great post all thought up but what it all boils down to is every game is big, we should fill up the Dome for all of them, and HATE STATE.
HATE STATE
