Lee also said in his presser that Hags hasn't been practicing and was in a boot because his foot is sore. Didn't say if it was the same one that kept him out last year or not.

Yotes wrapped up a pretty ugly road trip with this loss. The loss of Simpson obviously hurts, but clearly have things to work on. I'd say the most concerning thing going forward is our bench/depth. I think Perrot-Hunt is going to be a good player but needs to continue to improve and give consistent minutes off the bench when Simpson is healthy. Chisom is the obvious 6th man and is starting to come into his own--good energy, defense and aggressive drives to the basket. I would argue that if Simpson is going to be out for extended time that Kelley slides to the point and insert Chisom for KPH. Hopefully Johns is back soon because we look pretty slim when Hags isn't in there. Jovic hasn't really gotten any extended minutes even though the coaching staff seemed pretty high on him coming into the year. As much as I like Goodrick, he's best suited at forward and seemed undersized and less athletic against the bigger guys at NAU and Washington when he was playing center for Hags. Does anyone know how long Simpson and Johns will be out?

We look really fatigued and have missed several "bunnies." Goodrick hasn't entered the game yet and I don't think I've spotted him on the bench. Any insight on him?

It's hard to give teams a bye when you only have 8 teams. Why try and protect the top teams? It's March Madness and you better bring it every game. It adds to the excitement. They should move the tournament back to start on a Thursday and have the championships on Sunday. What was the point of the past 16 games if they don't mean much? Also, the conference stands to make a lot more money if they send their best team and they win a game.I never said the previous 16 conference games don't mean anything. They mean a lot. You fight for the top seed so you can play the bottom seed in order to make it an easier road to the championship in the tournament. Another perk for fighting for the 1 or 2 is to get the day off on Sunday. But the beauty of March is the unpredictability between games and matchups. If I'm paying for a session pass I want the most bang for my buck and that translates to more games. Unless the Summit adds some more schools, I don't think byes are the way to go. So, the conference would make a lot more money if WIU were the perennial number one and routinely won a few games?

Simpson and Webster need to exchange spots on the all-league teams, otherwise I think they nailed it

Slowly chipping away. Their best player tonight, Obanor out with 4 fouls. We've got to keeping pushing the tempo and keep them on their heals. Double bonus coming up

Nzekwesi out for the second half they're saying, not that it matters. He has done nothing in the first half.
ORU 14-20 already from the FT line. The result of our depth and a little home cooking it seems.

Todd Lee has been ejected. Double technical apparently, from his disagreement with a foul called on Umude. They shot 4 FTs, then got 2 more from the initial foul. Makes it 35-28. I'd say this one is over. We were holding a comfortable lead like 2 minutes ago, but this turn of events seems insurmountable with just 7 guys and our head coach gone. I say this with a minute left until halftime. Odd sequence of events... I don't think Umude even touched the guy, and they called him for his 3rd foul, so Lee got heated and T'd up, but I don't know what happened to get him ejected. You could hear him on TV yelling at the refs "what is going on?" after he was ejected.

I caught a bit of the Coyote Report and it sounds like Lee has stolen Caleb Kline from the women's practice squad and will now be on the mens squad. He has a bio and everything already on goyotes.com. Lee made it sound like he probably won't be able to play, if we get that desperate for bodies, due to Title IX and scholarships. He's an extra body for practice, mostly. Whatever happened to Stensgard btw? Good find, thanks.

No idea. Here’s a guess: Stan is obviously athletically gifted. Maybe he was able to succeed in the sport without a lot of good coaching or instruction as a kid. Recruits that are undeveloped are sometimes passed on by Power 5 schools, and are seen as a steal for mid-majors. The problem there is that you still have to put the time into development. I like that Lee is a developmental coach. All speculation on my part, of course. I still am trying to figure how Coach Smith got Stanley to come to Verm?! He is obviously extremely talented. I think he honestly has a chance to be mentioned as one of the best. I remember Coach Smith speaking a lot last year about how talented he was. I don't question the fact that Stanley didn't play much...we had Hags, TBM & Fuller in his spot and I mean we did finish with 26 wins. I thought I heard that they wanted to redshirt Stanley, but he didn't want to and Coach Smith wouldn't force him to redshirt. That's too bad. Would be really nice to say he's a freshman right now. Both very true. Kiyoat, I don't know if Smith planned to play Stan the same way we are this year due to the lack of size. I thought he was going to be more of a wing (he was in HS anyways), so I'm sure that's part of his learning curve also. I think Lee is definitely a developmentally sound coach and has some different views on defensive mechanics than Smith. Smith gave him the option on the redshirt, and since Smith had one foot out the door the previous two years, he probably didn't care what Stanley decided to do. We were pretty loaded down low last year, and don't forget about Sparky. Raw talent can only get you so far, and those vets last year had a lot of big game experience, and thats hard to overcome if you are still learning how to piece everything together. I don't know how I feel about him not redshirting. If he would have redshirted, it would be easier to go the ever popular grad transfer route and still only get three years out of him.

Or maybe he forgot about going to class, which is why he is no longer on the roster. Just speculation on my part. I hope that is not the case. We did lose a football player this year because of grades. Think you pretty much nailed it. Exactly. He got lost in the mystique of Verm. On a side note: I did see him at the game Sunday wearing a blue hoodie.

I think you put Jech and Johns on Daum when he’s in because you know he is going to draw a ton of fouls and we can’t afford TBM or Stan to get into foul trouble. Just let Daum get his and try to shut the rest of them out on the perimeter.
