I didn't look at the Big East, as they are usually thought of as a "Power-6" team in basketball, but here are those numbers: #2 $3,100,000 G Auriema UConn #49 $574,204 D Bruno ----DePaul #56 ---------- M Duffy -----Marquette* #70 ---------- J Flannery --Creighton #84 ---------- D Dillon -----Villanova * just took the Tennessee job So the Drake and Creighton coaches make less than the two SD coaches. A little less, anyway. Duffy took the job at VA Tech and the Marshall coach (Caldwell) is moving to TN.

Good morning- A couple of changes in our coaching staff. One has been announced and the other has not been announced as far as I know.
1. Casey Bruggeman: He was our Director of Basketball Operations since Coach Pete took over and he was announced as the new Head Coach for the University of Jamestown men's team.
2. Coach Eberhart: He was our interim coach when Pete was injured and came over from UNO. He is no longer listed on the website.
Both of these gentlemen were appreciated and wish them all success and best wishes.

I had emailed the foundation prior to my original post in November. I completely understand if the USDF has other priorities, but we still need their help with donor lists, prospects, etc. to jump start the process. If the xDSU's announced them recently that means they have been working on them and once again, we are behind.

It was very cool to see Jon's comments about Corey Jenkins. I think it would be a brilliant move for him to keep Corey around and let him be a true COO. Let Jon do what he does best, which is build relationships, set the big picture agenda, work with the higher powers, and facilitate outreach to the fanbase across the country. This is what successful ADs do. They do not micromanage, they empower their deputies and staff to be the best versions of themselves, push them to work hard, set a vision for the entire program and work to build support for everybody (through money and relationships). I realize he isn't a polished public speaker - it isn't something he has had to do - but Jon knows how to endure himself to people and build loyalty from those he trusts and cares for. I like this recipe. There is risk here, but I think the upside can be great. The guy drips with passion. I think this may have been an issue with the past administration...

One thing that I think our fundraisers, past and present, have a tendency to do is spend too much time and effort on the current deep pockets. More often than not, deep pockets=older donors ergo "not around much longer". I understand and appreciate it is easier to get $10,000 from one person than $1000 from 10 people, but those 10 people may very well be at the $10k level soon enough if some time is spent with those individuals. If I'm talking to Jon or Andy or Chris K, don't look over my shoulder the whole time to see who may have deeper pockets. I'm just hoping former bad habits have been broken... Just my observations and opinions.

Couple observations from being at the game... 1. The comment being wore down is spot on. San Diego played a lot of press and their offense forced us to move quite a bit. 2. We might have more height than we have had in recent years, we don't have quality height. When our top 2 big guys are out or in foul trouble, it is a liability. Felix plays good defense, but needs about 50 more pounds on his frame. Brack...I really don't know what to say. 3. We have too many nice guys. We need more guys like Boston that have the "killer" mentality. We let our foot off their throats and didn't finish them off. I like enthusiasm and having fun, but your opponent is the enemy at that given point. On the court you have to destroy him. Off thr court, go have a beer and be friends. I think 2 of our top 6 want to be friends with everyone.
These are just my opinions and I'm sure some will disagree.
After seeing how many show up for games in San Diego, our student athletes are very fortunate for the great fan base. If there were 300 people there for the women's game prior, I'd be surprised. Summit League officiating may raise eyebrows at time, but the officials last night were horsecrap

Personally, I think we needed fresh eyes on the department. Jon is a great guy but still has good, and bad, relationships within the department and the university.

I'll be at the San Diego game so I am really hoping they don't have a travesty like that!
Hoping we can get at least one "W" on this West Coast run.

I specifically reached out to a couple people at the Foundation in Athletic Development about an NIL collective over 6 months ago and was told there are other priorities. I can certainly understand and appreciate that, but we need the foundation's help with email lists, donors, etc. If we do not get serious about an NIL collective, we are going to be left in the dust. I get it...Howling Pack donations, scholarship donations, etc. may very well suffer because of this, but we need to get the ball rolling. I was told that if we want a young lady from Wagner to come and play ball for us, it would take $15-$20k/year to help close the deal. It sucks that is where we are at with college athletics, but it is what it is.
