I wonder if he will keep any current staff? Guessing Williams for sure, not like Amy is going anywhere...except getting a well deserved raise next year Has Amy said with certainty that she will be back next year?

TJ is one of the finest people I know, and I know him well. I was 100% in his corner when the job opened up, but in the end we got Craig Smith. And Coach Smith is also one fantastic coach that we are fortunate to have. In either case, USD was going to hire a dandy coach. Kudos to Herbster for narrowing it down to these two guys. We win whatever choice he makes. Both young coaches with vibrant personalities.
I hope and pray TJ gets the Iowa State job. He can flat out recruit, and I have to assume he knows a few things about coaching the X's and o's. TJ is as fine of young man as there is. He will do well if given the chance. But to me, just the fact AD Herbster narrowed it down to these two tells me he knows a lot about hiring basketball coaches. USD was fortunate to land Smith, and Iowa State would be fortunate to land TJ.
Maybe we can play the Cyclones some day. If given the chance, buy tickets and go. Hilton Magic will educate you what a true home court advantage is. We want that as we head into the new arena.

When I saw the title of this thread from the main page in the Mens Basketball section, I was like "oh sh*t" there is no way this can be happening. Ok time to breathe the head coaching search thread is an old one bumped up not as of current, wheeew. :-)

Herbster definitely knows basketball. I wonder if he had the foresight to recognize this as a possible situation, making him choose Smith as the top guy. He has my blind faith when it comes to basketball, that's for sure.

Dave was aware that TJ was going to be offered the position 3 years ago when Hoiberg nearly departed for Minnesota. Quite honestly, I don't think that came into his decision making process. I think he thought Craig was the best choice and acted on it. If either, or both, are as good as we think, then Vermillion will be searching again in 4-5 years, so let's just enjoy the ride.
My only point was Herbster had his list down to (2) unbelievably great coaches. We are fortunate we got one of them. And I know for a fact had TJ recieved the offer, he would have accepted as well.
