The announcers on ESPN were really praising the Coyotes for how hard they play and their execution. They were simply physically outmatched. Nothing was too terribly unexpected about todays game. Great season by the Lady Yotes.

I think a 19 point loss to a team on this caliber is a great accomplishment. Stanford is one of the best teams in the country...and have beaten most teams by more than 20 points. Hopefully we can build off this late season success..and have an even better year next year. Possibly winning a couple tournament games.

A complimentary article in the Arizona Republic today about our Lady Yotes'competing with Standford. The headline used "rout", but the storyline was more fair. As expected, the press is hardcore Pac-12 here but they were impressed with Seekamp. The fact that the Stanford star, Ogwumike, had to play 35 minutes is testament to the effort by our Yotes. BTW, Ogwumike is now the all time scoring leader in Pac-12 history.
Could not be more proud of our coaches and players!

14benson, winning a couple tournament games is probably unrealistic, even for an SDSU. It's all about matchups, and a 13-15 seed would need a helluva effort to win one game, let alone two.

Went to church yesterday morning in Ames before heading home to Sioux Falls and sat next to Stanford's director of operations for women's basketball. Very nice lady and we had a very interesting conversation.
She was extremely impressed with two things. First, Nicole Seekamp, especially her 9-13 shooting and 22 points compared to Stanford star (and likely National Player of the Year recipient and probable WNBA #1 draft choice) Oguwmike's 11-19 shooting for 23 points with each player contributing 35 minutes. The other thing that she was impressed with was our fan support. She said the Stanford team, staff, and fans could not believe how many USD fans were in attendance, how loud they were, and how supportive they were of USD even with the game out reach. She said that level of passion was not even close to being present at Stanford games, in fact, she mentioned that fans will actually tell one another to pipe down and shush each other if they get too loud. She thought it was great for women's college basketball to see the level of excitement USD brought to Ames.
Finally, Fran Fraschilla and his fellow announcer from ESPN's broadcast, which I watched after returning home also made the comment before heading in to the commercial break after Nicole's awesome lay-up in the second half that they were "seeing some great play tonight from a lot of ladies, but none better than that of USD's Nicole Seekamp." High praise there.
With everyone back besides Polly, I have to think the Lady Yotes are going to be very tough to deal with again next year in the Summit League. Incredibly proud of this team and to say I am a USD alum. Go Coyotes!

It is easy to be excited about a NCAA tourney game but the challenge is to get those fans out to a non-SDSU Summit league game in January and February.

Stanford beats 10 seed Florida State by 19 and advances to the sweet 16 round.

We put up 62 on Stanford, and FSU managed only 44.

Stanford beats Penn State by 25 and is on to the Elite 8. The Coyotes 62 points are still the most scored against Stanford in the tournament!

Just goes to show how impressive our performance really was. Given a less demanding seed, like a 12 or 13, it seems we could have advanced.

Yes, Stanford really looked tough yesterday against Penn State. Ogwumike finished with 29 points I believe. Just goes to show how tough that team really is and what an accoplishment it was for USD to put up 62 points on them, while still not shooting particularly well from 3 point range. I'm with Yotes' post above, had we earned a better seed, the Coyotes could have very likely advanced at least one more round.

Which begs the question, I wonder what our seed will be in next year's NCAA tourney?
I'm thinking that Coach Williams (if she doesn't move on to Minnesota, or the like) will start the season with more certainty than the prior two, in regards to returning players with experience. Hopefully minus the injuries, the Yotes will be in great position to start the non-conf. and the SL with a string of victories. Add in the recruits, who are looking at USD in a more 'national, NCAA' light, (it didn't hurt that they were able to take in the selection Monday) and I think the Coyotes are looking at improving on the 15 seed.

Seeding is based on what you do, who you beat, what your RPI is. We're not likely to have a real sexy non-conference schedule next season, partly because that's already completed (or if not, rather close). Pick up some of those key non-conference wins, beat the high RPI league team (SDSU), win the conference title, and you'd hope to be a 13-14 seed.

Stanford defeats NC 74-65 to advance to the Final Four. So NC is the only team to score more points on Stanford then the Lady Coyotes, scoring 65 vs the Yotes 62.
