How about like the seating priority that we start a point system for head to head matchups against SDSU and other schools as well. Some sports matter more than others so the point system would need to be tiered. All things aren't created equal and football and basketball are just simply more important to the image of a schools sports programs.
Very simply a head to head win by either USD or it's opponents gains the following points.
Football = 4 points Basketball = 3 points Women's Basketball = 2 points All other sports = 1 point
Add up total points at the end of the year and see which athletic program is better. This should be used against SDSU first, NDSU second and all the other conference opponents third. It can really only be used for Summit League comparisons because USD won't have many head to heads against the MVFC teams that are not in the Summit.
As USD fans we should maybe be slightly behind for a couple of years but after that, there is no reason that USD shouldn't be break even or better in points for.

Why not just follow the commissioner's cup in the Summit? I know is doesn't include football but is an all sports comparison.

Why not just follow the commissioner's cup in the Summit? I know is doesn't include football but is an all sports comparison. Not including football is one of the reasons but lets face it all sports are not equal to the image of a university. I think it's fair to say that most people would take a win in football and a loss in golf, cross country and swimming and diving rather than the opposite. The commissioner's cup weights everything equal. If you want to put point values based upon actual fan attendance (which basically correlates with general interest) than football would be worth 10 points and most other sports would be worth 1 point. This is a happy medium.

Why not just follow the same point system that Iowa and Iowa State use for the head to head match-ups.

Not sure exactly how it works because I usually tune out of it after ISU dominates Iowa basketball haha. It's usually close and it's sponsored by Hy-Vee last I saw. I no longer get KCAU because I have directTV so i am sketchy on the points.

Image of the university? Which is the better athletic program?
I guarantee you nobody at SDSU sees it that way. For something like this to matter, don't both sides have to accept it as valid? Nobody at SDSU cares about adding up points like that. We hardly pay any attention to the Commissioner's Cup. I think our women won it, but honestly I can't remember. And I'm very interested in women's sports, since I'm a professor and I have many student athletes in my classes.
Shouldn't we just be interested in winning conference titles? No reason why SDSU and USD won't get their share of those in the coming years.

Why not just follow the same point system that Iowa and Iowa State use for the head to head match-ups. Why don't you fill us in on that! It's called the Cy-Hawk series and is sponsored by Hy-Vee. It is very simple. Every sport they both play in is worth 2 points to the winning side. The lone exception is football. That game is worth 3 points. If there is a sport one school has, and the other doesn't, then that sport doesn't count towards the total obviously because they can't play. At the end of the year, the school with the most points wins the award. So it would look something like this: USD wins football 3 points o points SDSU wins MBB 3 points 2 points SDSU wins WBB 3 points 4 points USD wins VB 5 points 4 points USD wins Wswim 7 points 4 points SDSU wins M swim 7 points 6 points USD wins softball 9 points 6 points SDSU wins soccer 9 points 8 points If those were all the sports both played, then USD would win the "CUP" Here is a thought to get students involved. Find a sponsor that would make it very attractive financially to win the cup. Now, instead of the Athletic Departments getting the award, the student association somehow got the award. Example, the winner of the cup the students would get "expanded cable" for free. Something like that. That way students would pay attention and support their team. Just a thought

Thanks yoteforever, I figured you would know the system better than me.
Honestly, I don't care of if SDSU doesn't like the idea. That just makes them the Delaware or Delaware State of the conversation.
This is a good idea and it should be used for USD and SDSU. I love hearing when ISU makes gains or even wins the battle against Iowa. Down with the Hawks! Haha.

The Hawkeyes & Cyclones are in different conferences whereas the Yotes & Rabbits will be in the same conferences

That has no bearing on me. If they can get the sponsorship for it, why not do it? Same conference or different conference. Go ahead and do it! Anything that pumps up a civil rivalry!

Wow I figured I would be poached and barbequed for the idea but looks like people have an open mind.

Sounds good to me. Speaking of the Hawks, SDSU beat them in men's basketball today, 79-69. Before anybody gets too excited, Iowa is pretty bad. New coaching staff, lots of new players. But still a nice win.

Yeah, I was surprised to find out Iowa still had basketball. I thought they folded the program last year. Interesting.
Kidding, kidding. It is a nice win for the Jacks even with the status of Iowa basketball.

It is a nice win for the Jacks even with the status of Iowa basketball. I'm and SDSU and Iowa grad. Lickleiter pretty much destroyed that program. And he gets to earn $800,000 for the next three years of NOT coaching them. How does the AD keep his job through that? Back to the topic: Maybe HyVee would sponsor the USD/SDSU series, too.
