I don't want to beat a dead horse too much but I feel this subject deserves is own topic. Mick did a fairy good job with following the Yotes during the Summit Tourney but has since disappeared. He is not real reliable for breaking Coyotes news. There was no mention of the Coyote men in their pursuit of a post season tourney. There hasn't been much regarding the women going to the WNIT. I still don't recall seeing anything in the Argus about the Coyote men's basketball season being over. On the night of the WNIT announcement Mick is MIA again. He is mediocre just like the Argus. Now on the other hand Hoeck does a superb job in keeping the P&D up to date on the most breaking of news. He has a twitter feed at the sports blog area updating by the hour at times. If you want news you can count on and in a timely manner go to Jeremy's twitter feed at this link. He pretty much covers it all when it comes to Coyote Athletics. pressdakotan.wordpress.com/

There doesn't need to be a debate. Jeremy Hoeck is basically a model beat writer and I am very grateful he is covering USD athletics. I would put him on par with any sportswriter in the state and hope he sticks around for a while.

Maybe the lack of coverage is an Argus thing and not a Mick thing.

Maybe the lack of coverage is an Argus thing and not a Mick thing. You are probably right its a combo of both. But the types of articles and wording Mick uses against the Yotes is also a huge part of it. And thats all on Mick. Also, has he ever stayed for an entire USD game? The Creighton game was one of the most entertaining games to watch for the Yotes in the past couple years and if I remember correctly he left that game early before the final horn. If he cant stay for that whole game which game will he stay for.

Mick Garry skipped another USD chat again today. The P&D doesn't seem to have a problem with that. Matt Zimmer doesn't seem to miss many Augie, USF and SDSU chats. Come on Mick what is up with that.

When he can't get more than a couple of people to participate why take the time to host it? I've looked on a couple USD chats on Argus Leader and not many people par take in them. No offense to anyone who joins in on them, but they aren't nearly as active as the Augie, USF, and SDSU chats with Zimmer. I'm not trying to start anything with fan bases. I'm just stating.

I've hopped on those chats before. I love USD football but even I don't really feel the need to discuss it in weekly chat. Truth is I am busy at work and shouldn't be taking time to participate in those types of things. A site like this is a little different. Got a little bit of down time between calls, jump on here quick to browse things over and maybe offer a comment or two. I get the information when I have time to look for it, not by appointment.
Just my take on things and I am sure there are plenty of other USD fans in the same boat.

I used to attend Mick's live chats. I stopped about 2 years ago along with others. No one signs on to them because he never has anything to say. There would be some basic questions asked and he would never have the answer. His lack of knowledge of the program or the upcoming opponent led to the lack of attendance at his chats. He was more interested in where to get a pierogie or solid side dish of kraut in Missoula than how we matched up against the grizz offense/defense
Also, I like Mick and think he does a decent job but like all other sports journalists at the Argus he has plenty of other beats to cover.

The chat is about much more than just football. It is about all Coyote athletics.

Mick Garry has been covering the semi-pro sports teams in Sioux Falls lately included the Sioux Falls Stampede hockey club. I am more convinced than ever that he hates USD after reading his stuff that he writes about the Stampede (who I happen to really like). He definately writes with a much more positive manner when he writes about the Stampede than when he writes about USD. Even when the Coyote women had a pretty much dominant year he can't seem to come up with stories to match their dominance. He didn't write like they were a dominant Summit team at all. He didn't stand up for them at all during his Summit chats with Matt Zimmer. He just casually agreed that the Jacks should be the tourney favorites even if it was only slightly.
It's seriously time to get him off the Coyote beat for the betterment of USD and Mick Garry.

I think part of why Mick maybe sticks out as a downer is that comparitively, Jeremy is much more positive and does a really, really good job at covering the Yotes and cranking stories out about the latest and greatest in coyote athletics. I know that won't satisfy alot of you, but at this point with the Argus, it kinda is what it is.

For the Stampede he takes a positive light.
