Found it interesting that their press release talks about the Fresno State Bulldogs making it to the second round of the WNIT, but fails to mention the Coyote women doing the same thing after beating Creighton (also on Utah's upcoming schedule). I digress. Not to sound too Cliff Clavin, but former Lady Yote Meghan Woster played at Utah before transferring to USD. Could'ja pass me the peanuts there Normy?

A bit of an observation about this season. When it comes to expectations and comparisons USD people and SDSU people still do not think the same despite each team having basically equal accomplishments over the last 2 years. On more than one occasion I have heard SDSU fans talk about the notion of SDSU possibly receiving an at large bid to the NCAA tourney. I have heard that talk more and more but have heard it now for at least a couple of years out of them. I think it's time that USD starts to think the same. By reading this board (which is pretty quite regarding women's basketball) and reading the argus chat or anything regarding Garry's articles I never hear anyone associated with USD making it a goal to try to have the kind of a season where an at large bid comes into play. With the team coming back from last year and with the success the Yotes have had recently we should change that way of thinking and start talking about that notion. If the Jacks fans (and possibly team) talking about it the Coyotes should be to.
I wonder if Amy Williams has ever stated anything regarding a goal of getting an at large big this year or I wonder if the players ever talk about it. I don't get the sense from anyone in the program that the program is striving for that as an active goal. There doesn't really seem to be much concern about the Women losing their first two games as if those games are largely irrelevant because of Seekamp being out. Well if the goal is to get that at large bid the losses against UNI and especially Utah are killers to make a strong case for the Coyotes being a NCAA tourney team without an auto bid. Those first two games are just as important as any other non Summit League tourney game. It's the entire body of work.
Does that mean the season is over, of course not. I fully expect the teams performance to improve but lets not sell this program short as they should be striving high and thinking big.

Of course they are focused on winning the Summit League Tourney but there is more than one way to skin a cat. Winning the Summit Tourney is always going to be a challenge beating the Jacks at Frost Arena South.

I don't know exactly where to put this comment but the drop off of players lost after this season may not be as abrupt as some may have thought including myself. The losses will be very painful but the Coyotes have created such depth they will have the following players that made significant contributions this year back for next year.
Trimboli - just a solid all around player that can shoot it a bit Allison Arens - has played a bit but her upside seems nice J Bradley - limited minutes but has at least proven herself to be a Summit caliber player Bridget Arens - solid player that will expect to step it up even more next year Duffy - she will probably be the most Seekamp-esque player left, can really fill it up Liveringhouse - have always liked her game and when she gets the ball inside almost never misses it seems Fogg - her progress is rather amazing, she could probably hit the weights a bit but she can be a solid 2 way player
So with the incredible losses that will have to be endured this isn't really that bad of a core. It's much better today than what things were looking like back before the season started. As long as the focus on defense remains and the intensity in play stays high I think a drop off to 2nd or 3rd in the league might be more likely than a drop off to 4th or 5th or lower. Many of the players listed above are better right now and more advanced because the Coyotes have been able to take care of business early in games to allow these players to get on the court. After the NDSU game in Fargo a switch has been flipped and this hasn't even really been the same team. Major props to Amy Williams to get the kind of performance out of this team that is now being shown game in and game out.

Really just look at what the bench did last night then factor in Duffy plus our incoming recruits and it's easy to see we will be fine. Yes there will be a drop off from this year, but I still expect the team to be top 2 in the conference.
