Below is in reference to yesterday's game between NDSU and UND

Peculiar venue for the two to meet. I have to think they would both enjoy having UND in their conferences.

I want North Dakota in the MVFC/Summmit. I no longer want to have to play them in the non conference especially in football. We should be playing them every year as a conference game. That way maybe the Coyotes can stopping playing the big sky for practically every non conference game against a FCS program. It's time to stop being a honorary member of the Big Sky.

Why would you want USD to stop playing Big Sky? Big Sky, along with MVFC, CAA, and Southland, is one of the four power conferences in FCS. Those wins lead to selections in the playoffs. Wins against Pioneer, NEC, Patriot, SWAC not so much.

It's time to play another conference for a change as there are plenty of other conferences they could play that would also look good on the resume. That win against Northern Arizona last year almost led to that playoff spot if it wouldn't have been for that pesky MVFC. Unfortunately for the Yotes conference games DO count. For the record I do not like the Yotes to play non scholarship FCS programs including Drake. Once the program gets to the point where they can talk playoff I would also like to see them play another FCS non conference game in exchange for playing the guarantee games against FBS programs. I do understand for money purposes why these games are played.

So no playing the Big Sky (13 teams) and no non-scholarship teams (roughly 20-25 schools). That's about a third of FCS, got it.

I have zero problem with UND, Montana, Northern Colorado and the like as non conference opponents on a regular basis. The Big Sky is far and away the closest power FCS conference to draw opponents from.

Is the Pioneer League for teams that don't offer things like scholarships and cost of attendance? Sorry JackJD

The answer is "yes", goyotes. It's also true that Viverito is the commissioner of the Pioneer Football League.

Of course it seems the more supportable rumor is one that the MVFC and Summit League have some joint interest in UND. Why else would Tom Douple be present at a MVFC game? At the same time, what is Douple going to learn by watching UND football? One would think that closed-door meetings would be more productive.
I was just pointing out that Viverito, an assistant commissioner for the Missouri Valley Conference, is commissioner of both the Pioneer League and Missouri Valley Football Conference. That's a lot of hats to wear. I don't think UND would ever drop to non-scholarship football even though it appears UND has its own, unique set of budget concerns (as do most schools).

Douple has interest because I believe there is at least a little partnership between the Summit and the MVFC. All members of the MVFC (excluding Youngstown) are either in the MVC or Summit for all other sports. Any invite extended to UND by the MVFC would have absolutely been discussed with the Summit so that UND's other sports have a home. Unless UND is getting invited to the MVC for all sports (fat chance) this would be a joint invitation extended by Douple and Patty V.
Not sure there is anything going down soon. UND has seemed very content to avoid NDSU by hanging around in the Big Sky, but the recent football game makes me wonder if they really do wish to keep avoiding them. It's honestly probably just a matter of time before UND joins the other Dakotas. Having to travel a thousand miles for every single road game in your conference will wreck the budget and interest no fans (Whoo! Another game against Sacramento State!). Maybe within the next five years they change their time and tag back up with us. I would welcome it.

It's not up to UND to just join the MVFC. The eastern schools of the MVFC want no part of adding another road trip out west. The MVC football schools want no part in upsetting the balance of power in the MVFC either (having more Summit schools than MVC schools). UND will only be added in a situation that threatens the MVFC such as members leaving the conference. YSU looking towards the CAA and Mo State looking towards the Sun Belt may be what needs to happen to open an invite for UND.
I have a great string of conspiracy theory/troll posts going on at the AGS board right now in the MVFC 2015 thread. I love riling up the UNI fans. Worth reading and adding to for any Coyote fan.
ETA: Without a MVFC invite UND has no home for football. No home for football means they will not be joining the Summit as the conference doesn't offer football. Maybe the Big Sky allows them as a footabll only affiliate and allows them to move their other sports to the Summit? Doubtful or we would have seen it by now. Plus the BSC Commisioneer is talking about a BSC that sponsors a conference that is 1/2 FBS football and 1/2 FCS football, or something like that. I think the BSC wants to keep UND in the fold for some future plans they have.
