Checked out the Western Illinois thread related to this game and only 3 fans so far have bothered to post comments. Their participation is no where near what this board has. It reminds me of our board prior to the Minnesota victory and ensuing board implosion when it was just a few of us regularly posting on here. FWIW the Leatherneck "fanbase" is already looking past USD calling this one a Western Illinois win. I poked around their board as well. Nobody giving the coyotes a shot. I guess we probably don't deserve it, but I still don't see how anyone can look past anyone else in the MVFC. Not trying to start anything, but just wanted to mention that we're not looking past you guys. From one of my posts:

If you remove the 3 losses to Montana I can only think of one other loss to a BSC team since being D1 and that was Northern Arizona on the road a couple years ago. I know we lost to UC davis and Cal Poly during the transition process but since being D1 that lone Northern Arizona loss is the only one I can remember outside Montana. That Northern Arizona loss was also the game I beleive we made the switch from Vander Maten to Earl and almost came back to win the game after Earl came in. Vander Maten played all four quarters at Northern Arizona. He led the comeback. The transition to Earl began at Western Illinois.

I also remember thinking that we would probably would have beaten Western Illinois had Earl started.

How do you think things will unfold and what are the keys that the Coyotes need to accomplish to have success on Saturday. Go out on a limb and give us your score prediction.

Go out on a limb and give us your score prediction. The Key: simple, win the offensive line of scrimmage. We do that, we win. We don't, we lose. We are underdogs. If the offense shows up, Coyotes by 6. If not, Leathernecks by 9. First score USD 23 WIU 17 Second. WIU 23 USD 14 I bet we win. Vegas has it that a $72 bet wins $100 straight up. Want it? If USD wins you owe me $100. If Western wins I owe you $72.

I wouldn't mind taking that bet actually but I have a problem. The person I share my money with wouldn't be too happy if I put up 100.00 on a football game. Here is my take on the game. I can foresee two different senarios playing out. Either could happen but my official pick is 31-13 Western Illinois. I believe that the Coyote offense will have trouble once again running the football. The formula and tape is out on how to stop the Coyote offense. Just take away the run and make Saeger beat you all day long. Can't see that happening with his rather average to below average QB ability combined with rather average wide receivers. Western Illinois may be under rated on offense. They have put up decent points on some pretty good teams that they have played. They almost beat Coastal Carolina, crushed Eastern Illinois who is traditionally pretty good and also beat Southern Illinois. There resume so far is better than USD's. I think Western Illinois will control time of possession and pass just enough to keep the chains moving. The Yotes have been mistake prone and a turnover or two will likely prove costly. The Yotes defense wears out from too much field time.
My second senario has a Coyote team that puts up a nice fight and gets the game to the 4th quarter with a chance to win. The big problem is that the Coyotes haven't been in a late game tight situation this year and Western Illinois has. Actually based on their results last year losing by double digits in every conference game they haven't been in a late game tight situation in a real long time. They won't likely know what to do. The Yotes typically struggle in do or die situations where one or two plays late in the game decides the game. If this senario players out I see Western either winning with a late touchdown or the Yotes having a chance to tie it up but not being able to finish their last drive with the points to tie or take the lead. If the Coyotes do pull off a fairly significant upset I can't see it happening by winning a game in the last 2:00. The game will have to be in hand before the waning moments kind of like the UC Davis game.

The way I see it, if the Yotes team that played KSU, UCD, or Drake shows up, we take this one down today. That's a 3 in 4 chance to over-double your money. As others have noted, if we can control the line of scrimmage, I think we've got a real good shot. Maybe Anderson even redeems himself today and we see that long-awaited special teams td. GO YOTES!

No matter what the thought is on the Coyotes is it fair to say that the Coyote team we see today could very well end up being the Coyote team we will see the rest of the season.

Game under an hour til kickoff. Texas just pulled the upset over Oklahoma in their rivalry game. Good for the Horns, they needed the win badly. Oklahoma has been pretty much over rated since they won their national title with Stoops. They are always ranked too highly IMO. NDSU is behind UNI 14-10 on their home coming but they just scored a touchdown late in the 2nd Quarter to pull within 4. Why so many games in the Valley at 6PM tonight. I think there are 3 of them. October is a perfect month for day football. None of the late starts are in a dome either. NDSU's performance so far does not bode well for the Jacks.
