I will address the game and all the other stuff surrounding our current situation, but right now I would ask Coyote Nation, Jackrabbit nation, and anyone else that comes on this board to please say a prayer for Sam McLeran, our starting center who was taken off the field by ambulance during yesterday's game. Sam was taken to the local hospital, then taken by helicopter to Iowa City where he was going a multitude of tests. My understanding is there was paralysis, and had little to no feeling.
I pray to God that he lay His healing hand on Sam and restore to him his health. I also pray for Sams family as they must be scared to death for him. An injury like this puts into perspective just how unimportant then game itself is when things like this happen. Please say a prayer. Thank you.

My best wishes as well to Sam. Hopefully everything turns out ok. Football is a violent game and unfortunately injuries such as this are a part of the game.

Per MIck's story in the Argus: The contest took a sobering turn late in the first half when USD guard Sam McLeran left the field in an ambulance after taking a hit and suffering from numbness in his right side. He left in a helicopter to be checked out in Iowa City. Initial reports from USD officials were positive; he was regaining feeling in his extremities on Saturday night.
“He had no feeling or movement on the right side of his body,” Glenn said. “By the time they were loading him on the helicopter, he was getting feeling back. Our medical people say that’s great news. We’ll pray on that.”

I'll certainly say a prayer for Sam. That's just scary stuff.

Terrifying position for Sam to be in. No need whatsoever for anyone to be permanently disabled over a game. Hearing that he has begun to regain feeling in his extremities is promising, here's hoping he makes a full recovery.

I will say a prayer, too, and anxiously await any news of what I hope will be a full recovery in the days to come.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sam and his family. I hope the department shares as much information, within reason and legality, of his condition and progress.

Jeremy Hoeck gave this update...
Update on USD’s Sam McLeran
Posted on October 12, 2015 by jeremyhoeck
University of South Dakota offensive lineman Sam McLeran was injured during Saturday’s loss at Western Illinois and was taken off the field in an ambulance.
USD provided the following update today:
VERMILLION — South Dakota sophomore offensive lineman Sam McLeran sustained a spinal cord injury during Saturday’s game at Western Illinois.
McLeran was experiencing numbness and a lack of mobility on his right side. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Macomb, Ill., where he was subsequently airlifted to Iowa City, Iowa, for care.
McLeran has since regained limited mobility and was able to walk with assistance. He will be moved to a rehabilitation center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, later this week.

It is certainly great news that he is showing signs of recovery. We can hope that he and his family can find some relief with the progress. We can continue to offer prayer for his health to be restored.

Sam is from North Liberty (practically Iowa City), so I'm thankful that he is able to stay so close to home and rehab. Extremely helpful for him and his family and wish for nothing but great recovery for him. Really puts everything in perspective, prayers for him and his family.
