It would be better than the spread offenses out there. Just don't like the "were going to get our athletes in space and see if our athletes are better than yours" thing because you have to have the athletes to do it. Keep in mind we still play one FBS game a year as well as play in the toughest FCS conference where we haven't finished in the top half. Oh, and South Dakota, and this area in general, isn't exactly a hotbed of recruiting.
We're better of playing to our strengths which is putting together a road grader, power run, balanced offense.

Yeah just put out there the same road grader, power run offense that equated to one of the worst offenses in the conference over the past 4 years. How about the Coyotes try this. Put together an offensive scheme that most defenses in the Valley are not equipped to stop. Put together a defense that is best equipped to stop the most offenses in the Valley as possible. That seems like a fairly good idea to me. On offense once we have a qualified OC and a better quarterback under center than what Glenn put out there than we can start seeing improvements on that side of the ball. I don't know why so many people have such a problem with passing the football. I would rather have a trend setting coach than a copy cat (which everyone can prepare for and the kind of archaic offense that anyone could stop).

First post here but I wanted to chime in, I will start by saying I know very little about Stugart at USF but I think one of the lead guys for the job should be Glenn Caruso. Very likable guy, bright offensive mind, and knows the Dakotas and Minnesota areas well. I'm not sure if Vermillion is a place he'd come back to for a long haul but I'd be very happy with him as a candidate. Hoffner has been successful no doubt but not the personality for this job. Anyways, just my 2 cents.

No one was saying anything about Ed's character when his teams were kicking the crap out of anyone that came into the Dakotadome to challenge the Coyotes. I never had a problem with his character. By the way Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! This is the most pathetic post I have ever seen on a forum, ever. No issues with character with Ed Meierkort? Even though the reason wasn't publicly disclosed, there is absolutely no way Sayler would fire him based on his record. Character has to play a major issue in the reputation of the school and what value athletics play in the intercollegiate system. If wins are all you care about, maybe you should get a reality check. These student-athletes play about 5 years for the University and some of their family lives may not be the best. They play 5 years. They will go on to live decades beyond their time as a Coyote. Character will shape exactly who and what they will become. I think one of Sayler's biggest mistakes was either not charging Meierkort or publically disclosing what the issue was because if he was fired from a high school after a year for the following, what else did he do to this program? (From the Sioux City Journal) "A School District of Osceola County investigation in December revealed that Meierkort failed to responsibly account for a team fundraiser that took place during the season. The report also contained statements from an assistant coach and faculty member that they felt physically threatened by Meierkort. According to a March 15 story in the Osceola News-Gazette, Celebration principal Dr. Laura Rhinehart discovered that many fundraising cards issued to players went missing, and that a large sum of money turned in by two players wound up in Meierkort’s personal account, a violation of school policy. Meierkort, the story said, promptly replaced the cash with a personal check, explaining that he took the money home for security reasons. The school district investigation uncovered no criminal intent. The school’s athletic director also said that Meierkort permitted football players to practice without having the proper physical forms, which is a violation of Florida High School Athletic Association bylaws. Meierkort was also accused of verbally sparring with other high school faculty and several parents who are members of the school's booster club." I would bet my house that similar things happened at USD (if not worse!) It is a fact that kids in lower-income families that go on to play football in college may not have the best home life, between broken homes and parents not always being there because they are working to provide for their kids. Kids in high school need a figure to look to, high school and college football coaches play a major role in shaping who you will become. Players adopt the coach's philosophies on and off the field, which is much more than a win and a loss. Look at the direction that Nebraska took, they didn't win as many games as Bo Pelini did when he was there, but they are a much more respectable team without a coach cursing out the University and fans. Players respond to the kind of coach they have, if they see that it is acceptable for their coach to do that at their job, what is stopping them from doing the same thing at their job? The student-athletes and people of the University of South Dakota were absolutely blessed to be under the presence of Joe Glenn over the past four years. He is just a great person and an even better coach of these kids not only in football, but in life. I am ashamed that we have fans like you that care more about either the money or the wins and losses than ensuring that the students of this University go on to be successful, impactful people. If you were a supporter of LSU, you would be trying to oust Les Miles right now because he isn't winning right now. Why not move in the direction of Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll, Mike Leach? Trust me, I have seen you comment about this football team over the past two years, criticizing them about every little move they make. I am a high school football coach with multiple state championships (and a former Coyote) and let me say, I am in disgust. I would like to say that I understand football more than the average fan and your opinions have been nothing more than trying to stir the pot. Instead of stirring the pot and trying to always lobby for change, how about looking at the situation and thinking about what else is wrong except for coaching? I am sorry but if Coach Smith posts a poor season, will you be calling for change already? As a rule of thumb, one should wait 5 years before suggesting a change without any significant process (first recruiting class goes through), we have one more year before that and were one quarter away from playing tomorrow. I think that the current staff should be given one season to see what happens, if Joe Glenn, a man with 200 wins thinks that Beschorner is ready, then why not give him a chance. Great coaches such as Nick Saban and Bill Belichiek always preach about trusting in the process, but impatience is the sign of a person wanting/waiting to fail. At the end of the day, I do not mean any disrespect by this except for the fact that you do not know what you are talking about, and are unsupportive to the cause. Do the ends justify the cause? Not by replacing one of the best coach I've ever gotten the chance to meet with another sleazeball, because I hate to break it to you, Joe Glenn epitomizes what it means to be a Coyote a lot damn better than a sneak like Ed Meierkort. If this gets me banned, I 100% understand, but I cannot just sit by and not give my opinion.

You made your opinion known in a manner that isn't malicious, not to mention everyone but the poster it is directed at will agree with the general sentiment. These young men absolutely need a leader that will teach them just as much about life as football. Joe Glenn did this and more. While I don't agree with Beschorner taking over as head coach I would support him if hired and have no questions about the character he would bring.

We have seen alot of names thrown out there already on this board. I would put Caruso top 5 on that list at minimum. He would definately not be that 3 yards and a cloud of dust type coach. It can certainly be argued that Caruso was one of if not the biggest reason that the Coyotes were so good and explosive under Meierkort. The offense steadily went downhill after he left the program. I would have to look at his history a little more but I would want to make sure that Caruso would definately find a good DC if he were to be the pick. Caruso was awsome as OC and now he has proven that he can get it done as head man. I hope that Caruso has interest in the job and if he does it would take a pretty big financial commitment to bring him back to Vermillion. The last two coaches from the big 3 programs have been very good hires if not homerun hires. There is no reasons that football can't follow suit and I would do a few back flips if Caruso ended up being that guy.

If this gets me banned, I 100% understand, but I cannot just sit by and not give my opinion. Happy thanksgiving to you too wintheday as you seem to be in the holiday mood. You can have as much coaching experience that you want at the high school level but you coming out endorsing Wes as the next head coach tells me that you really don't know what you are talking about. You do not give him the job with his resume and with what he has done so far in his coaching career. Wes is largely responsible for holding back the offense that we have. His has next to no imagination. Winning and losing is more important than how nice a coach is. Sorry if it sounds harsh to you but that is just how it is. There is no way that people would want to repeat the last 4 years again if they had the choice. There is no way no matter how nice of a guy that Glenn is that he would have been hired in the first place if the record over the next 4 years would have been known when he was hired. No one would have signed up for 6-26 regardless of who the coach was going to be. If as a fan base we could keep Glenn for 4 more years there is no way that the majority would accept 4 more years of the exact same thing we got for the first 4 years. Wins and Losses didn't really mean much in the Glenn era so the fans that didn't really care about that stat had their way with him. As long as he was the head coach most could forgive the 6-26 record. He was the lovable loser is really what it came down to. We have seen that now and now it's time to get serious about winning not about hiring a guy with a great personality. How bout we hire a guy with an average personality but a damn good football coach. Just remember with your comments that there are alot of Coyote Fans that like Meierkort quite a bit. I personally don't believe in trashing someones character as that is not the kind of a person that I am. I give people the benefit of the doubt. Ed may have made mistakes but as long as he is not committing a felony than I can forgive him. I know there are alot of people that can't or don't forgive but that is not the kind of a person that I am either. I don't judge character but instead I judge by what a team does on the field. Maybe Ed did have some character issues that led to his teams not performing on the field but I don't really care so much what led to a declining product on the field I just care that the product was declining. Ed was losing his football team and despite many disagreeing I still believe he should have been fired for his coaching and not his character. Just remember that we as fans go to games to cheer on a team because of how they perform on the field. When leaving the dome there is generally one thing people think about and that is how good was the football team on the field. We don't leave the field wondering how the star quarterback may have treated his mother that day or how the head coach handled a fun raising event. That is their personal life and should be kept personal IMO. Those are secondary to on field performance. When is the last time a fan stood up and cheered for a player because of how well he did on his last psychology test. Most people would rather a player score a touchdown on a great play but get a C on his psychology test rather than having that player get an A on his test and fumble the game away on the last play. People can say all they want and make any claim they want but as fans we basically care about the success on the field, not off of it. Off field performance is just a convenience not a necessity. It's not like these kids are playing for free. They are getting a free education and on top of it get to display their football skills on a college team. Their education is paid for so it's really up to them if they want to gain anything out of it or not. It's no one's job to babysit these players to make sure they get their education. I didn't have a babysitter looking after me when I went to school. I paid for my own education and had the responsibility to make the most out of it. Why should student athletes be treated any differently. They basically get paid indirectly to perform on the field and as fans we should expect good performance on the field.

It's one thing to have a great guy as a head coach and teaching life lessons but that's just a portion of what a head coach handles at a 1-AA program. You've gotta be able to win games or at least show big improvements in the first few years and outside of a crazy ndsu win, there hasn't been (and not getting blown out by our biggest rival). I'm with coyotefan, I don't care if the guy kisses babies with the best of them, just be a hell of a coach. This is a big hire for USD football and can't afford to lose another 5 years to the blue up north.

As long as he was the head coach most could forgive the 6-26 record. He was the lovable loser is really what it came down to. We have seen that now and now it's time to get serious about winning not about hiring a guy with a great personality. How bout we hire a guy with an average personality but a damn good football coach. A tad harsh but I'm basically on the same page as you. You display your name proudly "Imacoyote". It's time to starting kicking some ass in the Valley and beating up that Blue and Yellow team a little bit more often. We need to make rabbit stew not give out medals for kindness to our players and coaches. Football is not a kind sport. There are alot of jerks that are football players and it comes with the territory. If you look at the 4 big sports, football, baseball, basketball and hockey the sport that generally has the most trouble makers is football. The goal is not to put together an all star team of upstanding citizens. The goal is to put together a tough and talented football team. If they happen to be good citizens so be it but that is not the point of putting together a football team. Joe Glenn has indeed changed the culture. The first priority is to put together a team of good choir boys and if they happen to be good football players than so be it.

Come again? How many USD sporting events have you been to in the last few years? I know you haven't been to any football games, but I get the inclination that you have also been to roughly zero basketball games as well.

Are you going to ask all the other posters how many games they have been to as well? I am proud to have gone to zero football games and I have my reasons for it. Last year I went to 6 basketball games. My self imposed football ban will probably end next year depending on who is hired as head coach.
I will no longer automatically go to football games. I am a consumer and I need to see a respectable product on the field. It's no different than going to a restaurant. You can only have so much bad food before you will eventually not come back. The Coyote football program is like the bad food that you get over half the time. The service needs to improve before I will go back to the establishment. When they change the menu and the employees then I will try that restaurant again sometime.

Oh trust me, I 100% understand why people are against Beschorner getting the head job. Watching the UNI game this year was one of the most painful games I've ever seen called. But at the end of the day it's just a part of the process, you take the good and the bad and that as a learning experience. The reason why I say that is because installing a new coach and a new system will set everyone back in the program. You can sit there and talk about a 6-26 record (which for the record is BS, last time I looked, this program won 5 games this year alone). The thing about it is that we saw progress this year. Rome wasn't built in one day, but we saw a major turnaround from 2-10. Was this a fluke? I would not like to think so and think that it is just a minor footprint of what is to come. You will see growing pains with a new coach which is sad because there is an incredible nucleus of seniors next year that have played in the systems of both sides of the ball. You are taking a step backwards in the hope that maybe you can step forwards. My point was not towards lobbying for Beschorner, it was for the despicable comment on character. As to the last paragraph of yours, it just goes to show that we have forgotten all about the true value of sports and the value of this University. Assault, theft, and DUI are all allowable from the coaching pool by your standards, so maybe Ray Rice or Greg Hardy can be persuaded to come here.

Self-imposed bans, could care less about character and morals? You seriously need professional help.

Every once in a while I like to remind posters that I haven't read coyotefan's posts for months (and never will. I guarantee it makes the board much more enjoyable and reading his nonsensical comments no longer wastes my time. So join me and let him rant to himself!!
