Hold up a sec. Don't get too bogged down in this yet. This list is infinitely larger than we EVER had under the previous regime. It is a checklist and they work their board. Tons of the guys on this list, especially from FL, have offers from P5 schools and will never look at us. Regardless, we are trying and this is getting our name out there and in the discussions. Under the precious regime, we wouldn't see a number of names close to this until very late fall. These guys are pros in comparison. They are casting a wide net, aiming high and will continue to narrow the scope and will focus on players closer to home as the year progresses. They have offered a TON of Nebraska and KC guys. A welcome change. WI and MN are getting hit well and you could see that we were able to close there back in February. To me, the way these guys are handling recruiting makes the previous gang look like a D2 staff. I love Joe Glenn, but this is another level. If you say this is better I believe you as you are our version of Mel Kiper Jr. on the football recruiting board. I did like what we were able to get out of Okie. Do you see recruiting efforts continuing there? We're already down in MO, might as well recruit KS and Okie while we're there. Better watch out with the bolded part, CF will be around soon enough to remind you that our previous staff was D2 with the exception of Joe. I totally agree on OK. I wish I had an answer there, but I don't. It takes time to build relationships and when those relationships leave with other coaches, they are hard to retain. What I liked about OK was that there weren't any other FCS schools in the area, so the talent was ripe for the picking. Our best bet would be to build some chemistry with the OK players on the roster and then use those to form new relationships. I definitely see OK as a more realistic area to restore than CO - simply because of the geographic efficiency you alluded to. Maybe Coach O'Boyle has a connection from his Chadron and Colorado Mesa days, however. One thing to note with FL - this is all the work of Coach Ockinga. He has GREAT connections down there.

Agreed, I really like the way this staff is going about the spring recruiting season. It seems as though this staff is much more organized and aggressive at this point in the year compared to years prior. Coach Moose has been a BIG presence in Nebraska thus far which is music to my ears. I think that this offer list has a Midwest flavor to it with some national seasoning as well. We all know that the bulk of our recruits should come from the MVFC footprint but we can also make a few splashes in FL, CA, TX as well. I agree with Cuz that as time goes on we will surely see this list narrowed down and a higher concentration of local talent (NE,MN,IA,SD,IL,KS,WI) will be the focus. Right now its about branding and name recognition. The more kids we have offers to out of region, the more relationships we can build with coaches in that area and that can pay dividends in the future. Often times in out of region recruiting, it is not this years class that you will see a huge rate of success with, but the years following as coaches and kids become more familiar with USD & our staff in those areas of the country. Well said.

Better watch out with the bolded part, CF will be around soon enough to remind you that our previous staff was D2 with the exception of Joe. Does it really matter what you classify them? The Coyotes have basically lost ever since the transition to D1. I hope we are ready to be done with the losing staff and ready to welcome the winning staff with open arms. The Coyotes are casting their net wide and they should be. We need athletes to take advantage of the dome turf and ideal conditions and alot of good ones reside in Florida. Look at some of the best athletes that the Coyotes have ever had and many of them are not from the midwest. Heck if the Coyotes need to go to Australia to get the next big thing then so be it. Take the runningbacks, receivers and DB's from the south or west, get the lineman and some of the line backers linebackers from the midwest. I am glad the Coyotes are recruiting hundreds of miles away. Right now they are not in a position to win recruiting battles in the midwest. Once the success comes than the midwest will be a little more winable. Speed, Speed and more Speed is my philosophy. The Yotes need to create matchup nightmares for all the defenses built to stop the run. Most of the weaknesses with those defenses is stopping the pass because the MVFC is a running conference. If Nielsen was to create a copy cat unit, do it with the defense because they are all equipped to stop the offenses in the Valley. What the Coyotes can bring is what many defenses will hopefully dread and that is a very efficient passing team. I like an offense with speed and a defense that is tough as nails mixing in a alot of speed with them as well.

Thanks for the updates, CE! I like the looks of that group of visitors! I don't think it is a coincidence that all of those you listed are from within an 8 to 10-hour drive from Vermillion. Much easier to get them here.
I'm not saying we shouldn't target speed from all over the country, but we definitely will have the best shot at the kids we can get to our campus. I like all the kids listed above from the Front Range Colorado, and the Metro areas of Omaha, KC, St. Louis, and Minneapolis. Lots and lots of talent from those population centers.
The only thing missing would be Illinois recruits. That state puts out a huge volume of talent, and since there are 3 other MO Valley Teams there, we do get more exposure there than some places. Families would have lots of opportunities to watch their sons play, too. Although some may say Illinois is too far away, really the whole state is within a 10-hour drive. I think it is more about perception.

I love the approach the new staff is taking. Offering to the FBS talent allows us to hopefully snag a few of them in unique situations but also sends a message to other top level FCS players who may be friends with the FBS talent etc. we are attracting the very best.
The more that comes out about this new staff the more I like them.

The more that comes out about this new staff the more I like them. There's no question this staff wanted to get out ahead of the game. I've seen similar efforts in the MVFC with Illinois State and SDSU, but after doing the UNI, NDSU, Youngstown and WIU stories, they haven't been quite as willing to offer just yet. I haven't started on Missouri State, Indiana State and Southern Illinois, but the Salukis seem to only have a few out so far. South Dakota is one of the most active programs in the country from what I can tell. I've taken a look at the Big Sky, Colonial, Southland, OVC and Southern very quickly and the only school I've seen that comes close is Northern Arizona and a few of the Texas schools who have new coaches. They've been very busy. Every staff has its own method of madness......some of the powerhouses want them on campus for Jr. Day or camp before they'll let go of one. Others want to make that impression and get that first offer on the table for a kid. I think both methods work in their own ways. FCS is a tricky animal, recruiting wise. You know you're not going to get the 5-star kids, but where do you start? 3-star kids? The FCS has proven time and time again it can wrestle a 3-star kid away from non P-5 teams in the FBS, no question. And some of the elite can take a kid from a P-5. But then again, time and money isn't bottomless and you don't want to waste month upon month for a kid who ultimately will end up at Bowling Green. It's a tricky balancing act. FCS has been fascinating to follow, to be honest.

It was fun to read your article and look forward to reading more about the MVFC, the toughest conference in FCS football.
