Anyone else think they need to put up some lighting in the parking lot closest to the SCSC? It is so dark coming out after games. It is only a matter of time until some one gets hit by a car in that lot.

That hasn't been a problem for me because we can't park there... HP membership is not high enough... If you park in the lot South of the SCSC, you have sidewalk to walk on...! Only worries there are drunk fans swerving and hitting you.

Honestly, I think the seats from row 5-10 are the best seats in the place rather than the first few rows. Looks like less people from the floor cam when the first few rows are empty, but that is also due to a lack of overall attendance. Just got tix for a buddy and me and our boys for the doubleheader on the 28th. He said he preferred centerline tickets even if it were up quite a ways. I ended up buying tickets in the first row behind the scorers table. (with our group size, 5, I was surprised to see a block of open seats there, so I went for it. Now I am remembering your post, and have a little buyers remorse. Do you think the younger boys (10) will have trouble seeing from there? At least it will be a more immersive experience for them, right? Or if there ends up being some open seats above us, we could just shift up a couple rows, right?

If you are behind the scorers table you should be alright as they do not stand up. I think if you were behind the team benches it would be harder to view. I have seats in the 1st row behind the scorers table for the SDSU game. It should be a cool experience being in the first row, but I would think if you cannot see very well you could move up to some open seats.

I looked at getting my season tickets in that first row behind the scorer's table. I'm not that tall, about 5'9, and there was maybe a 10 foot section of the three point line on both sides of the court that I couldn't see because of the table. You'll be able to see 99% of the game but occasionally will wonder if a shot was a 2 or a 3.

I read it as them saying it HAS increased attendance... wording is a little odd though. “It was very emotional when it opened,” Abbott said of the facility, which hosted its first event last August and has received positive reviews, if not increased attendance.

Just reading the link now. Poorly worded and should be improved, especially when viewed within the context of the article and the focus on the Abbott family.

I know I said I wouldn't comment on this topic, but I don't think the AL is being very fair in their characterization. For the women to increase their average by 200 after a program-apex type season is pretty significant, IMO. Especially when you consider that the average Summit League women's team draws an average of 500-600 fans.
Heck, the Jacks' Women's team, (which could be described as the model of what to aspire to, in terms of success and fan involvement) typically draws an average of 2,000-2,400. The two SD teams are head and shoulders above our peers for supporting WBB in a low-population state. So I call BS on the "change the culture" comment. We have a good culture. Could it get even better? Absolutely! I just don't like the shade thrown by this article.

Don't stress out about it - it is just Mick's writing style to always show a positive in light of a negative. A game victory story will always mention the last loss to that team, etc. I don't think it is meant as negative but rather trying not to be a cheerleader. Honestly, I think he tried to counter-balance TV's writing when he was at the Argus.

Wow. I was reading the SDSU thread in the MBB forum, and one poster mentioned that "we used to draw more than 5k for the rivalry game with State back in the DII days" and I was intrigued, so I looked it up. I couldn't find old box scores, but the NCAA publishes year-end attendance figures.
Turns out, he was right. At least about our attendance having been higher in the DII days. I didn't realize that many of the NCC teams used to draw an average of 3,000-5,000 per game, ranking several teams, including USD, in the top-5 for attendance each year. For Men's basketball, at least.
I guess I agree with Mick more now. Even though we are a low-population state, there's no reason why we don't have the potential to fill that place up. I guess the stretch of non-competitiveness when we went D-1 really set us back, fan-wise. This game tomorrow and the tournament could be a real catalyst.

I'm sure there were more than 5K (maybe more than 7K) at the State/U games in the early 90's. BUT, it isn't the early 90's anymore - there are waaaaaay more entertainment/sports/kids/etc. option today than there was then. It is a different era, so those comparisons don't work too well.
But man, those games were fun...

Keep in mind in D-2 the schedule allowed back games on Friday and Saturday with a men's and women's doubleheader with games against Augie, Mankato State and Morningside. In addition, student's (not just USD) don't attend games like they did in previous eras.
