I am told that Strevler is an athletic FREAK! Pound for Pound the strongest player on the team and one of the fastest players on the team. But, the question is really, can he throw? I think this pretty much sums up my thoughts/concerns/understanding as well. I have heard he is very smart, understands the game, reads defenses well, knows how to audible/call the offense based on his read of the defense, runs the option very well and is an athletic specimen. BUT, can he throw it well enough? That is all it has to be in this offense too - well enough.

Josh Vander Maten may have been the best athlete on the team as well but certainly had his issues throwing. I have higher hopes for Chris!

Great intell on Strevler! I have to think that the qualities he shows are the reason why the new coaching staff brought him in to compete for the starting QB job? CE pointed out the intagables he brings to the position and even if he is just an average thrower, he may be the best fit for this offense. I saw the spring game and neither Saeger or Simmons demonstrated that their throwing skills were much more than average, it sounds like athletically Strevler is much better, and they are all on equal footing when it comes to learning the new offense. I am going to go out on a limb and say that Strevler may have the lead to QB this team?
Speaking of intell, any insight on any of the other transfers or incoming freshman making an impression? Once again, you have to think the new coaching staff brought in athletes that fit their style of offense and defense and that their might be a transfer or a few freshman who see significant playing time imediatly? Full practice stats in less than a month, and then before you know it is game time! Go Yotes!

A couple things I have heard as well...
Streveler has been coordinating and leading the captains practices for the offensive team. Pretty impressive for a kid who has been on campus for just over 4 weeks. Looks like he is developing into a leader on the team.
Simmons was actually ahead of Seager coming out of spring ball. Simmons is a great athlete as well with a very strong arm. His challenge is knowledge and retention of the offense.
Can't wait for the games to begin!

I would think in this new offense that decision making would be the most important aspect of the quarterback. I love the athletic quarterback as much as anyone but please let our signal caller be good and chucking it around as well. When it comes to this team I don't want to settle for average so whichever quarterback gives the best chance to be awesome I want to go with. I think Strevel probably gives the Yotes the best chance to be that.

That was Streveler's knock at Minnesota. I'm a Minnesota fan. He couldn't throw a pass. It'll depend on of his athleticism is so great that he's just faster and more athletic than everyone on the field.
Also, your writer from Yankton is spending his summer following an amateur baseball team from a tiny town that hasn't won a game in three years. I commend him for it (kind of), but that's weird to me.

It is a little weird but it is the dog days of summer with not much to report on for football. Their amateur season will be over by the end of July before fall camp starts. If he enjoys it I have no problem with it. I love amateur baseball, but he could have found a better team to follow.
As for the QB situation, I want whoever has the best chance to win games as the starter for the Yotes.

I'm guessing he is given a lot of freedom in his work and there is not much else going on right now.

Picking where the coyote's place this year could be the toughest pick in the conference. Two questions can only be answered as the season progresses. The frst, how well will last year's players fit into the new system? The second, how well did the new staff do in recruiting players who are ready to fill in the holes? If the answers to those questions are in the favor of the coyote's, there could be a lot of very surprised fans around the Valley. If it takes more than one season to work everything out, I hope the USD fans will be patient. I am guessing USD will be better in 2017 than in 2016.

I'm to the point that I have been waiting for next year or to build the program long enough. I don't expect us to slide from the last couple of years because, simply, we've been hovering at the bottom of the league for far too long. I expect t results quickly with this crew.
