On a scale of 1-10 ( no zeros ) rank yourself as a fan.....and why.
I would rate myself as an 8. I haven't been a big fan of women's basketball, but not because of their efforts, rather the pace of the game. That being said, what this years team did to ignite the heartbeat of the University was off the charts. This team did more to get people excited than any team of recent past. I will try and become a 10 by supporting next years team in a bigger way, and Coach P and her staff.

I would rank my family as a 6.5. We attend and tailgate every home football game and even one or two away games. We also attend at least 2 to 3 men's and women's basketball games every season (last season was an exception as we were at every WNIT game (minus Minnesota). Our ranking will be trending upward this year because we will be getting season tickets for basketball and also try to attend one or two volleyball games in the new arena as well.

1- the starting point; I have an invested interest. I recently joined the board... I have only researched USD football, however have not attended a game. I did watch the lady Yotes on TV though :-)
I do plan to attend a game or two this year and the rest I will watch on ESPN3.

I attended 35-40 games last season, listened or watched all but maybe 5 road football/basketball games, am a Howling Pack member, and check the web daily for any tidbit of Coyote news. I'm giving myself a 10.

I live in Vermillion and really make it a habit to get to just about every home football and basketball game, plus any events in Sioux Falls. Going through the 2015-16 schedule I believe I made it to 5 football games, 10 MBB games, 20 WBB games, 1 soccer game, 1 softball game, and a day at the SL outdoor track championship for a total of 38. I missed five home basketball games (two against NAIA teams, plus the men against UMKC, UNO, and WIU) but made it to the five games in Sioux Falls. Next year I'm hoping to make it to some road games so perhaps I'll be able to eclipse 40 on the year!

Anyone who comes on a team message board is greater than a 5 and not your average fan. Most fans don't do that and follow their team as close.

One could argue that there are different aspects of being a fan. 1. following the team - paying attention to schedules, scores, news, participating in message boards, etc. 2. Participating fan - attending games, alumni/team events, etc. 3. Supporting fan - paying membership dues, donating to the school, etc. I would say that #1 costs time, #2 costs more time and some money, #3 costs less time and more money. Each level demonstrates a level of commitment of some kind, in time and money. I would guess that there are major donors who only casually follow the team. Their donations have a huge impact anyway. Myself I would rate a 1. I am an alumni who was always a very casual fan, and am only now starting to follow the team more closely. I post a lot, but haven't yet demonstrated a commitment to attending more than a handful of games each year.

I live in Rapid City and now we have 3 young grandkids (all hopefully future Coyotes) we help with so it's hard to go to many games. Will see one football game for sure this fall in Vermillion and hopefully a basketball game in the new arena and will try and get to SF for the Summit in the spring. Have seen numerous FB games in the Dome over the years but only one basketball game. Went and saw the Yotes play AF a few years ago (a game they might have won if they could have passed the ball but the wind was about 45 all game and remember Tyler Starr came over to Coyote section after the game to say hi to Yote fans--what a great game he had--like 2 FF, 1 FR, I think a sack or 2, etc) and made 2 trips to Laramie years ago when the Yotes played WY (one of the games they were tied at 14 at half--think it ended 35-14. Those games were before playoffs). I attend all the games in Rapid with Coyote sports teams over the years which understandably (and unfortunately) aren't very many. Went to all BB and FB games including many in SF and Sioux City while at the U 67-71. Paid the 90 per year it used to be to watch on internet (and thanks to the U it's now FREE) and now have Midco which is great for all the broadcasts they do of games and Coyote Corner. Watch everything possible on TV and online. Have been a Howling Pack member for several years. Rate myself as a 6 for lack of personal attendance in recent years but working on doing better. GO YOTES!!

I would say I am a mix of the 3. I attend most of the ābig gamesā each year and try to make a few others. Last year I went to 2 WNIT games, the SDSU games for football, MBB and WBB. I went to one WBB session at the Summit Tourney. I am a howling pack member. I watched almost every other football, WBB, and MBB games either on GoYotes or ESPN3. I would definitely say I am more of a fanatic than a lot of my fellow USD grads. I know the rosters well and follow the recruiting aspect. I also love to rib some of my local friends who attended SDSU undergrad and received a grad degree from USD (they hate that!). I am planning to make more games this year as well, especially to see the new basketball arena. I would give myself a 7.
