Not sure how that works, didn't he sign his LOI in February?

Here is what he tweeted out for his reasons to decommit from USD...

My guess is we gave him is release. Otherwise, he would have to sit out his first year I believe. You rarely see this case so more inclined to think we gave him release.

I did not know that he was a walk-on offer. If he got a ride from UNI I cannot blame him. Good luck to William except vs. the Yotes. Looks like he is a very good thrower in T&F.

There is no signing for a walk-on. I recall the Big12 had a Conference rule that a walkon couldn't move to another school in the conference without being released. However in this case it's a moot point because he never attended full time and wasn't on the team in Fall. College cost is not cheap so it's logical to take the scholly money... Most walk-ons don't get scholly money until JR or SR year if then... Usually the rule is the walkon has to be at least be a 2 on depth chart to get money...

Don't know much about his football ability, but would have been great to have him on the throws squad for T&F to help cut in to the Bison dominance in that area. If my memory is correct, we could no offer him any T&F scholarship money as it would count against the allowable football scholarship limits.

I don't blame him for accepting a scholarship, but if UNI is recruiting a signed player isn't that tampering?

Walk-ons do not sign and are not subject to an NLI (National Letter of Intent)... For signed players: The NLI includes a recruiting ban, meaning other schools cannot recruit a player that is signed. That player would need to get released from the NLI..

Looks like we got a new kicker, Grad transfer from Kansas (KU) with one year of eligibility left. Welcome, Ryan Weese!

Anyone else find this intriguing? Would think he is getting scholarship $, so makes a guy wonder how many kickers on the roster are getting scholarships...

Guessing the staff didn't feel Dominic Long was ready to handle full time kicking duties as a true freshman... Looks like 2 kickers on scholly to me...

Do we have any punters on scholarship? Or is that duty going to Long?

They are both walk-ons. They both joined the team when classes started last year.
And, who said that this guy is on scholarship?

Interesting to note that he was at Hutchinson CC the same time Coach Ockinga was there, sure that had something to do with his transfer to USD.
