Looking at the roster and don't see his name. Anyone know what might have happened to him. I see the kid from Omaha north that came with him is still on the roster.

Has anyone heard anything recently about Calvin Strong? Is he still practicing? Has he been dressing for games and I am missing him on the sidelines?

He is listed on the roster. Looks like Nate Gunn is no longer on the roster.

Calvin dressed for the home opener, not sure if he is traveling with the team or not.

Was really hoping to see him on the field this year... He potentially could be the difference-making RB the program has been lacking for a few years.

Gotta think hes at least a year away from any PT I agree...been a year since he had done anything football related. I can picture him getting his feet back underneath him on the field this year and learning the system, then possibly being an impact player for the program starting in the spring. He's an extremely talented kid but taking a year off and having to learn a completely new system probably points to him taking a year to find his way onto the field. At least at RB.

No news is probably good news this fall. Given that he is a year removed from football and didn't participate in fall practices he was a long shot to ever see the field during a game. It's probably best that he redshirts this year then has three years to potentially be on the field.

Technically he already used his redshirt last year while he was trying to get his eligibility status squared away. Thats why he's listed as a RS-Freshman.

Because if he is currently a RS-Freshman that would mean he could play this year and three more, which is not how I thought this worked. Thought he lost a playing year and was left with 4 years to play 3.

I beleive NCC Yote is right. The common rule of thumb is that no matter if you redshirt or grayshirt you have 5 years to complete your 4 years of elgibility. Anything after that you usually need a medical redshirt year or something similar to be granted any further eligibility.

The only other example I have to go off of is Tyler Starr. He had to sit his first year on campus due to academics then was only available to play three years.

I think Tyler sat out his first 2 years and played the last three.

If I remember correctly it took Starr 2 years to become eligible. In Calvin's situation, he is eligible to play now. To my knowledge, Golfingyote has it correct. You get 5 years to play 4 once you enroll in classes. Whether its a redshirt or grayshirt, that counts as one of your 5 years.
With a case like Stefan Logan, he got all 4 years of eligibility when he came to the U even though he was something like a 22 year old freshman because he never enrolled in college after high school. Therefore his clock never started.
