What ever happened to just being a fan. What is wrong with simply buying a ticket and attending a game. It's a win, win. USD gets the support the fan gets a good product to watch. No one owes anything more than that either way. Why does there have to be an extra cost associated with just simply wanting to go to games. USD has gotten plenty of money from their alumni over the years. Do people that go to amateur games of any kind of a NFL game pay an extra fee to go to a game. Do they donate to the team that is already drowning in money. A college owes it's graduates just as much as a graduate owes their college. The college got paid, the student got an education. Both got what they wanted. If the college expects donations isn't it fair to the student to expect a little donation coming their way from their college. When I buy a car should I make a commitment to a multi year donation pledge to Honda? Why is it really any different. The way people talk non Howling Pack members should be stringed up and beaten with a stick if they don't donate. Maybe at the first home basketball game the should make an announcement over the PA. All non Howling Pack members please stand up. Now those that are members please start booing at those that are not members that are standing. It gets ridiculous how some on this board think the Howling Pack is some exclusive club that all non members aren't true fans or whatever they want to call them. I have no problem with the Howling Pack as something that is voluntary but when it gets shoved in my face I don't take well to it and become less willing to donate because of it. I know you aren't serious and you were just being sarcastic when you wrote... " Maybe at the first home basketball game the should make an announcement over the PA. Talk about public humiliation, this would take the cake. Read more: usdcoyotesports.proboards.com/thread/1769/usds-ticket-selling-strategy#ixzz4J0jrbGhy

CF, nothing is wrong with just being a fan. I hope you make a lot of games and have a good experience. I do not look down on anyone who is a not a HP member or season ticket holder. I think you are over exaggerating a bit, which I shouldn’t be surprised by.

well you did basically say that I didn't show interest unless the team was winning, and I basically proved you wrong. It has nothing to do with awesome fandom or not awesome fandom. Just proving that you are wrong about me again. History suggests you will be questioning the Nielson hire by year's end and won't renew those tickets because the team is in all reality still at least a couple years away from being contenders. Honestly if the Coyotes finish 0-8 in the conference in their second year than yes I will definitely question what is going on. Let's remember this program has never avoided finishing below .500 in the MVFC. I think that is something to not exactly jump up and down about. The Yotes averaged 1.5 wins a year in the Valley in their first 4 years. Everyone should be upset about that.

I have no problem with the Howling Pack as something that is voluntary but when it gets shoved in my face I don't take well to it and become less willing to donate because of it. Your comment on why cant a fan just be a fan is fair, and as long as there are tickets to be sold that aren't commited to season ticket holders, you're always going to get a good seat without the commitment of purchasing a season ticket. In my opinion, it's highly unlikely that USD will sell out season tickets to the point there are no individual game tickets left. But what can happen, and has happened, is that in the bigger games season ticket holders will not only use their seats but will purchase extra tickets for games like SDSU and NDSU, therefore drying up the pool of tickets that are normally available. A prime exmple of this would've been the women's WNIT run last spring. My guess is non season ticket holders would've been shut out. Addressing the comments regarding the Howling Pack, there a re a couple of comments I would make. First of all, you don't need to be a HP member to buy season tickets. The ones behind the baseline and in the corner are available for a nice price, and they are good seats. You argue that the seats in the middle should be available to everyone without regard to the HP donation, and my guess is what I stated earlier....most games you will be available to buy them on an individual game basis running the risk of being shut out for big games or events. However, that being said, I don't think it is fair to those that do make donations to expect to have primo seats for nothing. Your frustration with the process is very transparent, and as you lambast those that are critical of fans not making an HP donation, I can assure you that those that do make the donation as equally tired of the rant of USD administration not being fair to the "average fan". Whatever that is or means. In conclusion I would say that I personally feel a $100 donation isn't the end of the world for most people, but if it is, then there are certainly alternatives. You also make a comment that USD has gotten plenty of money from its alums over the years. Plenty is the word I would challenge as being correct. For that arena to be built, along with the track complex and soccer complex, there was over $64,000,000 raised privately. The people that made that sacrifice are deserving of some benefits that come with it. And this may surprise you, but even if a person made a $1,000,000 donation to the arena, if they don't make a HP donation, they are in the same category as those others that didn't, and they don't get priority seating anymore than you. Now ask yourself...does that seem fair? It doesn't to me, but that's the process. No process is perfect Lastly, and where we probably differ the most, is that I support the Coyotes win, lose or draw. You don't, and I get it, I just don't agree with it. There are several teams in the MVFC and Summit league are trying to win titles. If every fan of every fan base approached their purchasing of tickets like you do, just about all of them would have severe operating deficncies on an annual basis. What's lost in your argument, in my opinion, is whatever happened to showing up to games as underdogs, and cheering like hell for your school to pull off the upset? There's truthfully nothing sweeter than knocking off a big boy (or girl). Our arena is gorgeous. I'm proud to be part of it. And I will tell you without regret that I cheer for USD in everything from football to tiddlywinks. And the one thing I did underestimate is the time lag between the time we commited to D1 vs SDSU and NDSU and the others, because it set us back longer than I thought it would. To some degree, we are still paying for that. But with the new arena, an UNBELEIVABLE weight room and training facilities, and a future expansion of the Dome, we are now armed with the tools we need to win recruiting wars. Football is in good hands, and this staff will make us competitive soon. I think the basketball programs are in good hands, and our ascension in men's basketball should be coming very soon. But that doesn't mean we win the Summit, but rather compete for titles. It takes money to run a first class operation. That's why I personally clamor for people's support of the Howling Pack. It's necessary to make that entity vital, because you can't always ask the alums for money every year above and beyond. Trust me, athletic departments at our level run deficits mainly due to men's/women's equality. That's the law, and that's ok with me. But it doesn't change the fact that major sports can't operate with positive cash flow with those obligations that also have to be funded. In closing, if you don't want to support HP, don't. I don't care one way or another. Also, I encourage you to buy individual games tickets on a regular basis, but please don't brag about getting your tickets "on the cheap" when many others are footing the bill.

They have begun the basketball season ticket seat choices. Those that put down $100 deposits on seats have been given a date and time to be at the SCSC to chose their seats. Has anyone been in yet to do this?

Wondering what the process will be... will you walk in and they'll have seats already spoken for marked off? Let me know how it works when you go in to pick yours.

I'll be there tomorrow (Tuesday) and I was told it takes about 15 minutes. So how did it work when you picked your seats? Pretty painless. They really give you the time to make a decision about your seats and were moving people through pretty quick. I was really surprised to see how many seats were already selected. I have a fairly high points ranking and I really thought there would be more options in the club area. Take the time to sit in different sections and see which you like better. My personal opinion is that the seats in Section 113 above the club area are some pretty darn good seats. I can't say the same for some of the seats in the club area as I think rows 1, 2 and 3 are all going to have some issues with sightlines.

I'm guessing corporate sponsors?

I picked out my seats and pressed for some details about the process. I showed up a few minutes before my assigned time and was left to to go get an idea of where I wanted my tickets to be. Picking out my seats was entirely painless. All taken seats were marked off with green tape and it didn't take me long to find what I thought were the best seats available.
Bad news (but really good news) is the amount of seats that were already taken when I showed up for my session (around 3 today). I was told the process started Tuesday and will end around 4 tomorrow, so I am roughly 2/3 of the way down the list, and I could not believe how many seats were spoken for. In the end I think of all seats available for purchase (so removing the student section) at least half will end up being reserved for season ticket holders. I was told that the ticket office is selling about twice as many season tickets as they did for basketball last year - and it has little to nothing to do with corporate sponsors as they were already getting their tickets last year.
In spite of the huge jump in season ticket holders I still feel I have great seats and will have no problem whatsoever enjoying the game. I ended up in row 9 and between the free throw and 3 point lines. Even the people in row 20 will end up with a better view than like 95% of the seating in the dome offered. It should seem we are going to see a lot more people at the games this year and it's bound to be a hell of a lot louder too.
