When were the pictures taken? I was there and I would say it was nearly 85% full at the beginning of the game then gradually went down after halftime. 15,000 and some change isn't to bad when your playing a team like Drake. I mean it was no where near USD's attendance from Saturday. gigapixel.panoramas.com/southdakotastate/football/20160910/Pretty cool picture here. Looks like it was taken in the 3rd Q so some of the crowd was gone. Looks like a lot of empty seats but a good crowd nonetheless It was at halftime based on the score and punters out there. Our group is not even in the picture. There was way more people than this there.

That makes absolutely no sense. I'm not surprised 2015: USD 52, Drake 0 2016: SDSU 56, Drake 28 Like I said, makes absolutely no sense.

If this picture was taken in the third quarter vs. the halftime, I would ask why all the players other than a few are not on the field. Also, I did not find myself in the picture, but the guy who was sitting behind me was there and I was in my seat the entire third quarter. It is taken with 6 plus minutes left in the halftime break. If they sell out for the Drake game, we would need to review the seating needs in the new stadium. Last year SDSU averaged 12899 per game. If they could reach 15,000 this year, it may be considered successful.

I hate to defend them but who expected it to sellout? The previous stadium wasn't selling out every game and adding 7k seats isn't going to change that. That thing will sellout once in a blue moon today. Ten years from now it might not be enough. They're prepared for whatever may come.

Agree. We don't need to smack them over stupid stuff like this. It comes off as very Iowa Statish (having come off the Iowa/ISU game this week, and after that beat down Saturday, I am trying to remind myself to not act like some ISU people do, the reaction to that game has been telling). USD needs to take care of its own business, that is winning games and filling the Dome to overflow capacity.
I am also curious as to how tailgating went at SDSU. In Vermillion it was a party, an absolute great time. I don't even remember seeing one Campus Cop, talked with Pres Abbott and Herbie for a while, there was some great new tailgate rigs, frankly one of the best rigs I've ever seen, and the beer was a flowing.

My original post was not meant as smack. I was a little surprised it was not sold out after all of the hype and the concert a few days before. They still had a great crowd no doubt. Don’t think for a second though that if the shoe was on the other foot they would not be making jokes. I am sure it will be full for the USD game and maybe for a playoff game if they get one and it isn’t below freezing. The venue looks great and I am looking forward to check it out on 11/12.
PS - Nice to see they got rid of the grass field. The crown was worse than a lot of high school fields.

This thread was not intended to talk about the attendance at their game, it was intended to talk about the 2018 Sh!t Show coming to Brookings. Please get back on topic

Anyone else see that State did not sell out their 1st ever game at the Dykehouse? Smack part- SDSU did have over 15,000 fans at their first game against Drake. They charged normal ticket prices and had their stadium about 80% full. USD had 2400 fans for their first match in their new arena against a regional "rival". They also sold tickets for $1 a piece. Their attendance was less that half of what their arena holds. Serious part- We are comparing volleyball to football. USD will have a sellout for several basketball games. Their opening doubleheader might/will be a tough ticket to get. SDSU games and other big games will sellout in the new facility. They will be able to sell where they play basketball and volleyball to recruits and more fans should show up because of the serious upgrade in facilities. SDSU will sellout the NDSU game(s) and maybe a few other games. The USD, Hobo Day, Beef Bowl, playoff games, etc.. could also be sellouts but that will depend on many factors. I don't know the official count for the concert. They were guessing 25,000 but I haven't heard the official attendance. SDSU will need more things like that to have 19,000+ fans but when you build something that you want to last 40 years, you have to plan for the future. If it's too big our not, we will have to wait about 20 years to find out. Both places have really nice new facilities that were needed. It just shows that both Universities have enough people that care enough to make the serious upgrades that were needed. SDSU football stadium "needed" to be replaced. It was starting to fall apart. USD probably didn't 'need" to build the arena. They could of kept playing in the dome but the upgrade that they did helps their athletic department in a lot of ways.

I was surprised the game did not sell out or get even close to selling out. I honestly thought it may because of how many people would want to see it for the first time similar to the large turnout for a volleyball match at USD.
Although SDSU may not sell it out more than a handful of times in the next 10 years they built for the future. Something that does not happen most of the time in a state like SD. I can respect that.
USD needed a basketball arena just as bad as SDSU needed a new football stadium. Recruiting was taking a serious hit in the D1 era because of it.
