Classic USD road loss. This is a game we should have won no doubt. On to the next, it's over now.

So with 4 minutes left instead of snapping the ball with 20+ seconds left three down in a row, the clock would have been at 2:30 or so. Instead, they went for a pass on 3rd down which was a pick-six. I would rather make sure we can punt down into their end with 2 minutes left and make them go 70+ yards against our defense. We were stopping their offense for the most part, believe in the D a little. The reason for the pick 6 was a result from having to pass by running on first and second down. If the Coyotes would have passed on first down or at least second down it would have been an easier play to pull off because UND is stacking the line to stop the run. Just look at OT, pass on first down immediate touchdown. Run on first down in second OT and settle for a field goal allowing the defense to lose it for us. The point of all this isn't what happened when UND had a already taken momentum and was within 7. It was when up 34-17 playing conservative and allowing UND back in the game. It is obvious that UND's front 7 is the strength of their team. If it wasn't by all means run the ball, but by running into a brick wall is much less likely to produce success then throwing against a less then stout UND secondary. When up 34-17 against a tiring and morally broken down defense the point should be to try to make the game 48-17 and then it is over. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense and in this particular type of game that is and was exactly the case. USD let UND off the mat by their own strategy of not putting them away when they should have.

After today, I am done watching football. We know you aren't. You will be back cheering on the team next week again just like the rest of us. I would bet a pretty good amount of money on that.

You don't have to pass. You are taking an unessesary risk and it killed us. Run the ball. Let them call timeout and make them go 70+ yards to TIE. If you think that was a good call you are crazy.

Very disturbing to say the least. I am so sick of giving away games to freaking ND. Crap!
Well Go Coyotes anyway!

Well the Coyotes took an unnecessary risk by throwing the ball to go from down 14-6 to up 34-14 but the risk was a calculated risk to take because they were playing away from the stength of the UND defense. It's all about strategy and attitude. People will talk about Streveler's pick 6 all day long but that was only the defining moment just like when the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs to allow the Mets eventually win the world series. People forget all the men that got on base for the Mets with two outs before that play happened. It's the event's that lead up to that point that need to be avoided. There is a big difference in putting away a wounded animal vs trying to complete a third and long against a rejuvinated defense with the game on the line. The Coyotes should have remained in the exact same offense they opened the third quarter in with the same mindset and the wounded Hawk would have rolled over and died. They had the dagger out and cocked over the head but for whatever reason put it down instead of driving it through the heart. They got away from what worked. For some reason teams do this all the time and it leads to many improbable come back victories or in this case devestating losses. There certainly does seem to be a huge black crowd over this football program that shows up way too often in these types of games. I do have faith that Neilson will continue to build the program. This is a team still in it's infancy with the transition and there just isn't that much talent on D right now but that will improve. I hate excuses for this football team that we have to keep talking about for years on end but I think things can turn around. If this team is still allowing these things to happen 2 years from now I will be much more concerned. There were a lot of positives in this game. I felt the performance today in loss was better than the performance in last weeks win. These meltdowns are tough but I am used to them and they don't bother me as much as they used to because I have become hardened to them.

I've always hated out patterns--low reward high risk!!

Regardless of the outcome last week and this week, the team has holes that will be addressed in the coming years. Defense: -middle of the zone is soft, safeties late -run D made some progress from 1st 2 weeks -no shutdown corners, but serviceable. -need consistent D Line rush
Offense: -Not seeing the same as other folks at QB, I do think Strevler is limited on throws he can make. I'd like to see more of Simmons. -pass blocking needs to get better -speedy slots need action to slow the rush.

On a positive note, Greenfield looked good in his first game as a Coyote. He looks to have a ton of potential.

Classic USD road loss. This is a game we should have won no doubt. On to the next, it's over now. First, Not hear to gloat at all. There is no gloating after a game like that.Proud of our boys for not givng up, and for making the comeback happen, but it was UGLY. Second, Hat''s off to the Yotes. You guys really do have a high power offense this year, with some serious potential. In some ways, similar to UND, where the potential is there, but the execution isn't consistent enough. I was totally wrong about Bouma, I though we would contain him a but, but didn't. Streveler was everything that was advertised and more. Impressive. 6 TD Passes!!! (Granted two were to UND ) Seriously though, that kid is going to have a good season, and will be even better next year. There has to be a curse for USD at the Alerus, but I truly hope you guys have tremendous season and surprsise some teams in the MVFC. USD is not a team I'd want to see in the playoffs. Scrappy as hell, and I was impressed with how your D line exposed how raw our O-Line was. This is a win, I'm just happy we escaped with. Tip of the cap to USD and best of luck the rest of the season!

You guys can keep arguing the run on 1st and 2nd vs pass on 1st and 2nd. Honestly, I can see both sides. I'll just keep being sick over this one. Mirror image of last week. Ugh.

Long time reader, first time poster here.
Anyway, I still see an improved offense from the previous years overall. There is a lot to look forward to with our program, but presently, I feel we are going to just see some tough losses that should be wins. This loss hurts, I really wanted them to get a win in Grand Forks. Hopefully they can learn from this as they prepare for MVFC play in two weeks. If we can go in and beat Youngstown State in Ohio, that would be huge.
As a consolation, I'm rooting for State to lose this game.
