I'm old school, so much like most "old schoolers" you get the night to enjoy and savor the win, but mentally move on to the next game. That's Illinois State. I think Illinois State is the FCS version of Notre Dame. What in the hell is going on there?
That being said, although it appears to be a very winnable game, this game is certainly no gimme. Curious as to what others are thinking. I think it's going to be a dogfight. Revenge comes to mind for me. If we indeed are better, let's assert ourselves this game and make a statement.
Lastly, if anyone would like to tailgate at our spot, we have a full kitchen and armed with tons of food, please send me a private message and I'll give you instructions as to where it's at, and what time we start. I am so pumped about Saturday right now. Gonna be a long week to wait. Kinda like a kid before Christmas.

What happens to our chances if Streveler can't go?

I'm confident Strev will be playing.

I'm confident Strev will be playing. If he was trying to come back out in the 2nd half yesterday I would agree that he seems probable to start Saturday.

I know way too many students will head north this coming weekend to partake in the Hobo Day festivities with the former high school classmates. Hopefully the administration will make an extra effort to keep them in Vermillion this coming weekend. Who knows, a trip to Brookings about a month from now could be a lot more fun.

I am so pumped about Saturday right now. Gonna be a long week to wait. Kinda like a kid before Christmas. Had a chance to watch the second half of the ISU vs SIU game last night. USD will be facing an extremely tough opponent. Their record is not good, but they are an extremely skilled team. I have two former Bizon players that are friends of mine and they said although NDSU beat them by 21 that the game was much closer in reality. They commented that without last years QB and RB stars they were certainly not as explosive but they thought they had the ingredients to make a run as they learn to play more consistently. From watching last night here are my take-aways: Big Physical OL, QB that has a good arm and more mobility than what we saw against Indy St and YSU but every bit as accurate. They were using a true Freshman RB that looks very developed for his age. Strong and has a good burst. They have an All-conference caliber WR and their other WR don't look like weaknesses either. I think the challenge they present is they can be very balanced. Their HC seems to like physical pound the ball type football and work play action off that. Our defense has tremendous heart, but is undersized. My guess is ISU will force USD to prove they can stop it. If USD overcommits in that effort they have the WR to go over the top. Defensively they looked very similar to the caliber of defense we saw against UNI. Our offense can score significant points on any team in this league when clicking. Cannot turn the ball over and need to stay aggressive pushing the ball downfield, otherwise they will crowd the LOS focusing on stopping Streveler/Bouma/Frederick. Their defense dominated Northwestern. That is impressive. Our OL has not been dominant in the running game, but they have overachieved protecting the QB in my opinion. I am extremely impressed with Coach O'Boyle. He is making them better. I believe he will produce a dominant OL over time. ISU has their backs against the wall and certainly this is a program used to making the playoffs. They will be confident because of their history and win last week against SIU. After last year's shelling of USD they will most likely be extremely confident. I expect this to be an incredibly physical game. Feels like USD is taking some wear and tear from the season right now (to be expected). Let's hope our guys can heal up and be ready to play to the best of their ability. In 2013 USD was able to get to 4-3 record and then went on to lose the rest. This team feels different. I will have fun watching and cheering my a** off. Hope we get a great crowd to show up and do the same. I believe in these players and coaching staff. Really proud to have them representing us.

Sounds like we are fortunate to play this team earlier rather than later once their young players have things figured out.
Protect the Dome. This team happens to be undefeated in Vermillion and we need to make life hell for all visitors if we are to be competitive in the MVFC. I'll do my part to contribute to this effort and hope more people in the stands will too. A roofed stadium gives us the opportunity to be loud enough that the opposition can't even think. Gotta embrace that.

My how things have changed just since the last game last year. The Coyotes did not belong on the same field as the Red Birds that day in Illinois. I think the Coyotes had already packed their bags and given up on the season (eventhough some may claim otherwise) last year after the SDSU game but I have a feeling we will see a huge difference on Saturday. Sure Illinois State is still a good team but they aren't anything like they were last year. They lost at Indiana State and barely beat Southern Illinois at home and lost to Youngstown on their home field at least as bad as the Coyotes lost to YSU on their field. On a neutral field I give the Yotes the slightest of nods. In Vermillion I think the Coyotes should win by 10.
I am going with the confident bunch and taking the Coyotes at home. I am going with the Coyotes 37-21.

That is one confident prediction. I will attempt to ground you and point out that we have won just one MVFC game by more than a single score (30 points over a Missouri State team that went winless against D1 competition), and just one MVFC game by more than 3 (7 points over UNI in 2OT). The team is looking good but I don't think we beat anyone by that margin this year.

Now if I would have picked a 28 or more point win that may be overly optimistic but I don't think a 2 possession game is unrealistic. I am hoping that the positive momentum continues and Illinois State hasn't been great so far. Usually I am on the other side of the fence and I don't give the Yotes the benefit of the doubt but I think the Yotes game clicks on saturday. We may have never won this big in the conference before but I believe this years addition is the best D1 team we have had yet so because of this all bets are off as far as how good this team can get. It might all slip backwards who knows but provided Streveler is back this week I like the positive momentum to continue forward. We are home and should be favored this week.

I typically don't make predictions outside of W's and L's in this unpredictable sport, but I'm anticipating a game with a final around 31-28 and hope that USD is the 31. This could end up being our best team at the D1 level so far but in this tough conference most games are tight contests. The widest margin of victory this weekend was 4. Illinois State is a team figuring out how to live without Coprich and Roberson and are fighting for their playoff lives. If we beat them by two TDs it would be a huge accomplishment for this team.

It's an awesome creation for sure. Super impressed. I will say that the one that catches my attention the most is the converted fire truck. People don't realize how expensive a fire truck is, so I am guessing that converted rig, polished to the hilt and, from what I've heard, still functional had to cost a pretty penny. And this all started with an old International pick up truck that was converted to a trailer/grill. Then an RV, and another RV. I saw the Yankton crew has themselves an old bus too, just a little "simpler" in design and finish. The rigs keep getting better and better each season.

While this year's team has certainly improved each week, especially as relates to limiting turnovers on offense and pressuring the QB on defense, they haven't yet figured out how to put away a team once up by a couple of scores. The quality of opposition has a lot to do with this. I see another tight game this week.
BTW, have you noticed that Weber St and UND have remained unbeaten in the Big Sky? It will be interesting to see where they end up at the end of the season.

One poll out this morning ranks us #20. www.compughterratings.com/FCS/rankingsNow the challenge is to live up to that ranking this weekend and take advantage of an ISU team that is down. Good chance we play as the favorite this week as well. Only saw the first half of last weeks game, but the result is all that mattered. Go Yotes!
