Great interview with Caleb Vander Esch

The November 4, 2019 Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd" section on page 20 has a "Climbing the Ranks" update to an earlier "Faces in the Crowd" story about USD football alum and former star QB Wes Beschoner written on Dec. 12, 2005. It notes that after leaving USD football's staff for coaching gigs at Pittsburgh, Rice, and Maryland, Wes is now in his first year as a head coach at UW-Eau Claire with a 3-3 record on the year. Since that article ran the Bluegolds have lost 3 in a row falling to 3-6, but I think Wes will have a winner there soon. I wish him the best! Good person and a good coach.

Jack Cochrane LB was voted best FCS #39
by Hero Sports recently joining #72 Mason Scheidegger OL. Both very well deserved!!
Numbers 1-29 yet to be named.

Hero Sports has ranked Brett Sampson as the 10th best TE from the FCS's 125
teams.

Also Brock Morgensen is rated as the best returning FCS player wearing 49.

It is interesting reading, but hard to get too concerned this early in the year. It isn't (can't be) based fully on results to date. Case in point - SDSU's current resume is pretty weak, but they are expected to get quality wins in the future, and as such is seeded.

Honestly this has me more optimistic than concerned. What this tells me is that when we beat UND this weekend, we should control our own destiny as far as an at large bid.

Agreed… Rumor has it that preferred walk on WR Jack Martens is equally as impressive but hasn’t had the opportunities with Vander Esch and Bell having the years the are having.

Congratulations to Jack Cochrane and Nick Gaes on being named to All American teams!!

Jack has had a Super Coyote career as the Yotes 6th all time leader in tackles with 327! He also is the Valley's leading interceptor this year with 4 which is a great number for a LB!! Hopefully we'll see Jack playing on Sundays!!

Nick is on the Freshman All American team. He led the league with 7 sacks and also was 3rd with 8 tackles for loss!! What a fantastic start to his Coyote career!!
