The above Argus Leader is the same as the write-up on the GoYotes.com website. An obvious result of the decrease in number of staff at the sports dept at the AL, but probably indicative of the level of coverage the Yotes can expect from the AL going forward.

An obvious result of the decrease in number of staff at the sports dept at the AL, but probably indicative of the level of coverage the Yotes can expect from the AL going forward. Augie is in the same boat, except basically all the time. Do you guys not have Mick anymore either? My understanding was that SDSU and USD would still, for the most part, have individual beat writers at least. Maybe Mick was just covering a different beat? In our case, we basically just get whatever Zimmer has left in his tank at the end of the week, which isn't ideal, but I suppose it's the reality of the situation. Plus, I like Zimmer's writing, so I'd still take his running on fumes over nothing at all. One plus side I've been thinking about regarding your point above is the fact that, if the Argus does simply post/print the school website's write-ups, odds are the story is going to look as positive as possible for its respective team. Most sports information directors manage to make the losses sound a lot better than they were in reality in those write-ups. If that's what gets run in the newspaper, it's not all bad. Those of us more committed fans who read all of our athletic programs' game recaps will know it's just been re-used, but more casual fans just checking the Argus website most likely won't know the difference. The bigger downside is not getting the feature stories and more customized pieces that give readers a reason to get behind the players on the teams and make a more personal connection. Either way, it's a bummer, but I suppose if those stories were helping sell papers like crazy, the Argus wouldn't have laid people off and constricted things so much.

I know this thread was meant to be a go-to for news articles and not a discussion thread, but everyone take a moment to be thankful of the quantity and quality of coverage that Jay Elsen and the MidcoSN crew gives USD.

No question. I like Elson, Fields and Stewart on the coverage. Is there anyway that Elsen can work for Midco and be the voice of the Coyotes at the same time. He would have my vote.
