It's time to forget the debacle from last Saturday. This game is going to go one of two ways in my opinion. One, we don't respect this team and the hangover from the loss carries over. In that circumstance, we lose. Or two, we take what happened last Saturday personally, and we play fired up, and get the W.
I have a little different perspective on the playoffs than some on here. And what others have said certainly makes sense, but I feel if we win Saturday ( and to me, that's a big if ) and we beat North Dakota State at home, we are likely to get in. If we beat SDSU and NDSU, we would be in for sure. Realistically I think us winning in Brookings is far less likely unless the weather was such that hampered their passing attack. I do think SDSU is the best team in the league right now, but they are certainly beatable. I also feel strongly we are going to beat NDSU on the 19th unless we lose the next two. If we go 5-3 with a win over either Xdsu team, I think we will get in. Our losses in FCS would come at the hands of a likely Big Sky co-champion and 3 others in our league. By beating one of the XDSU teams, and tying with Western Illinois, although they won the game, the panel, if objective, could potentially give us the nod. I like our chances better by winning at leastv 2 of the next 3 then I did by beating Western and Southern then losing to both XDSU teams. Beating another team of their caliber I believe gives us a great shot of getting in.
However, all that being said, it's all for naught if we don't win in Carbondale. I think this team has the character to get it done. I'm driving down to watch. Go Yotes

I think the boys are getting a taste of winning. There is no let down this week. I think we come out strong just like we have the last few games and compete hard. I know this team is on the right track.

I have a feeling this is the game that we blow the doors down. The guys know they've let 2 games slip away this year... I don't think they'll let that happen again.
USD 38 SIU 24

I would like to think Nielson has learned his lesson about how to play with the lead but it looks like he has done this over and over again at Western Illinois and now at USD. I wouldn't count on very much changing if it does come down to the Coyotes having a lead again. It will be the same running on first and second down. This game is bound to be close. I think we are looking at a game very similar to the Indiana State game as far as how it might play out. I think very similar type road games with SIU being the team that has had all the bum luck. What scares me is that SIU finally gets over the top this week. I am going with much the same but am picking a break through for the Salukis with them winning 35-31. This is pretty close to a coin flip. If somehow the Coyotes decide that they need to run their normal offense for the whole game I will pick 45-28 Yotes but I don't think they will do that so strike that one off the record.

So, what do we know about SIU? Pass heavy? Defense any good? Who's favored? (trying to move the conversation from the old-news transfer stuff...)

Watched 1/2 of their game against Missouri State a couple of days ago on ESPN3(games stay out there 30 days so is a good deal). Their QB is very good. Ranked I believe 4th now in FCS. They run a fast offense like us. Defense is good. They've lost several games by just a few points so they'll be tough enough. We'll have to play a full 60 minutes to win.

They pass a ton. I believe I saw their QB with 50+ attempts in a game earlier this year.
I saw a line saying SIU is 1 point favorite Saturday. I'm surprised we aren't favored given the records but it's really not something to put a lot of weight into.

So we will have 2 'pass first and pass often' teams in a row to prepare for. Maybe that will make things a bit easier for the D.

I see the line has shifted all the way to make SIU 4.5 point favorites. Can't really dispute that until we regularly win on the road. SIU has a strong passing game and I would not call our secondary a strong point, especially if Warner isn't out there or not 100% (not sure what his status is this week).
That WIU loss still makes me sick, but to refocus as a fan my goals for this season were for the team to go 6-5 and .500 in MVFC play. The latter of those two can be achieved today and keep us alive in the playoff hunt for another week. I am interested to see how our staff handles the team after such a painful loss. It would be very reassuring to see our staff have the team get beyond that loss and pull out a victory today.
Go Yotes!

I'm going to guess last week gets the team motivated (vs de-motivated/down) as well as recognizing a sense of urgency. I think it will be a blow out - Yotes 38-34.

Well now that I am almost over the L Neck Meltdown it's time for the Coyotes to show their confidence and put a complete game together. This will set the tone for the two games against the State Colleges.
I see our Yotes pulling away rather than just hanging on. A close game at the half goes the wrong way for the Salukis.
41 to 17 South Dakota!!!
Fight SD!!!!

This is a terribly ugly game for the Yotes. Very frustrating.
