I can see why SDSU fans don't want to admit that USD is on the up-and-up in all athletics, they're afraid of no longer being the "South Dakota School" when it comes to media coverage.
But I just do not see why an SDSU fan would be so reluctant to want USD as their main rival...and why is it even an argument in the first place? We have two schools in the same state only two hours away from each other. This rivalry is so much better for our state than SDSU/NDSU, or UND/USD, or NDSU/USD. Sorry, Jacks fans, USD has been D1 for almost a decade now, and in the same conference for half a decade, time to accept it and embrace the rivalry. Or are we supposed to throw a dead bunny on the court to officially start it again?

Don't mind thumper, he is mad at life. Yes, some fans who were not part of the D2 days did not know about the jug. I'm surprised you did since SDT is not a rival. I like to be informed about my schools sports programs. A trophy that's played for would fall under that umbrella. I'm not mad at anything, but hey, if it helps y'all sleep at night great. Should I warn Thumper about smack in a non-smack thread? Nah, we run a better place here than they do over on the Bunny Board. Thumper, and all State fans, should be getting salty. SDSU's grip on this D-1 move is all but gone. The last piece USD needs to draw even is to win in football and that will come in short order. They all know it, the entire conference knows Coyote football is on the rise, yet rabbit fans refuse to see it. Oh well, we took the WBB mantle from them. We've passed them in MBB this year. Track & field, forget about it, not even close at this point. Softball, soccer, go right down the list and USD has either pulled even or passed SDSU by. Only two pieces of the puzzle left, a Summit basketball title, and a win in football with a trip to the playoffs, which will happen in short order. The Rabbit reign was short lived, I hope they enjoyed it while it lasted. Um, on the WBB thing, that's a pretty desperate claim. As is "we're going to catch them in football". And warn me about smack, that's fine. I understand if you gave us Jacks fans the same treatment yote and bison fans get on the SDSU board. I could understand that. I find it funny how one year of being above us in the conference in football and you guys are falling all over yourselves to claim supremacy. Reality is you aren't catching us in football. You're on the rise and improving, but really when your team was as down as it was what other option is there. Misery St seems to be improving as well but I don't qualify them as a threat to be a playoff seed anytime soon. The gap between the programs is large. I could go in depth but the basics are in the new milestones to be reached for each program. One has two or three left, a top 4 seed, a Semifinal appearance, and a natty. The other programs next milestones are a winning record in conference, making the playoffs, and winning a first round game. On basketball, one season doesn't make a program better, but I am willing to say they are at least even and if things continue this way into next season and the yotes make the tourney a couple of times then the roles will certainly have flipped. Outside of volleyball and soccer (which I admittedly don't really follow) the most visible and popular sports either university partakes in are wrestling and baseball, and both of those are sports at State. T&F is great but isn't something that the average fan knows much about or goes to watch. Compared to what is happening with the Jacks wrestling program that's drawing large crowds. From a public perspective SDSU simply is still leaps and bounds ahead. The yotes better make the mbb NCAA tourney if they want to gain some ground this year. Very possible, you have a good team. To claim that the yotes have somehow surpassed the Jacks however is just patently false when by every large measure of success for the wbb, mbb, and football aren't even close. Hell in two out of the three you haven't ever accomplished making the postseason, much less getting a postseason victory.

Or are we supposed to throw a dead bunny on the court to officially start it again? It's a rivalry. Just not near the rivalry that the NDSU one has become. The old in state rivalry has diminished while that one was growing. Is what it is. Yote fans don't realize that SDSU is just as close to NDSU as it is to Vermillion I think. Sure, you guys are getting better in some programs. But SDSU fans are under no obligation to embrace anything. That was screwed up when the rivalry games were stopped and NDSU games were still on. An entire generation of State fans didn't have anything to do with usd while we were playing NDSU in big games. It wasn't SDSU fans fault the rivalry died and it's not their responsibility to embrace it so yote fans can feel like they have arrived as a DI program. Sorry. I get that the SDSU games are THE rivalry for usd. It's not for SDSU. It's one of two.

I didn't warn you about smack, I asked if I thought it was necessary and concluded that it was not necessary. We don't censor people here like is done on the Bunny Board. Your post would have been take down immediately and you would be warned if that was the case. Don't believe so? Apparently opposing fans aren't even allowed to talk smack in the Bunny Board smack section without getting their thread locked. Yeah, you guys are a bunch of thin-skinned snowflakes. You need your safe spaces.
For our Rabbit friends, what you are pointing out with your "facts" is what is called a head start. You have had success because you were the only game in town for years. Recent results, the trend, so to speak, are showing that your head start has eroded as USD is now passing you in the conference standings in several sports. All that is left is a few dominoes to fall and the transition will be complete. Those dominoes will fall soon enough with what has been put in place now.
Why do SDSU fans not consider us rivals? Because that is the biggest insult they can think of, to not acknowledge USD.

We already have 2 natty's. Bethany Buell's pole vault championship and our WOMEN'S NATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP.
Oh, and Mr. Neilson on the men's track and field team (a true freshman)is ranked 1st in the US and in the top 20 in the world this year. We may have our 3rd NATTY in the works.
Quit acting like the bunnies one and done's and NONE AND DONE'S in FCS football somehow puts you in the same category as NDSU.
SDSU has had a lot of success in D1. USD fans admit that. USD has had quite a bit of success too. So when you refuse to admit that it makes you sound like a agri business degree dipshit who played football at agricultural college who now lives in Fargo because he actually secretly hates SDSU/Brookings but spends all his time on blogs degrading every other school in the country because they are not SDSU "material".

Thumper was born in 1988. Given the length and history of the USD v. sdsu rivalry, it is hard to lend much credence to someone's thoughts on what constitutes a rivalry and what doesn't when they were still sleeping in (and probably wetting) their parents bed during the same time frame they profess to know so much about. Go back to your mom's basement to your game of Hungry Hippos. We have a WNIT trophy and a NCAA pole vault title to polish. Someone has to bring home the hardware in the Summit after all.

Sorry to take away from the spite-filled trolling, but back to the game. Am I the only one who thought the Yotes, in general, really didn't play that well? Hurst and TBM - who are a big part of the recent ascent- were largely non-existent. (TBM struggled on O) And they gave up 89 points at home (yes, I know a shooter had a career day, but still). Add that long stretch of standing around on offense, and they just didn't seem as crisp as they have been.
I am not trying to be critical, but people wanting to avoid the rabbits had me thinking - seems to me we are better than what we saw on Saturday, but I would say that is as good as SDSU gets.

Oh my I see the facts sting if y'all gotta get personal. Fun fact. The WNIT was great, congratulations. You won were the best of the teams that couldn't make the cut for the main tournament. It was impressive. I even wanted y'all to win. I freely admit that you are damn close to being on par with us in wbb. Oh and you're better at track and field. Congrats. Another fun fact. The vast majority of fans of college athletics don't give a rip about track and field. That's just reality. You guys need a grip on reality. Seriously. Love how every time something starts to be brought up between the yotes and SDSU yote fans always bring up SDSU not being on the level of NDSU. No shit. Nobody has been in the FCS for the last decade. Ok. Y'all can be pissed about it. You know I haven't even tried to be insulting for the majority of this thread. I just posted some facts. Sorry I'm not sorry for that.

Don't care who the XDSU's consider their rivals, I will forever enjoy the Yotes taking them down. Even though the Coyotes MBB is chasing the Summit League Conference title and the Jacks are chasing a spot in the Summit League tournament, it didn't reduce the fun of Saturday's win!! Fight, South Dakota!

XDSU desperately wants to be SOUTH DAKOTA but they know they never can be! They can paint a huge (and really ugly) SD on their basketball court but that doesn't make them SOUTH DAKOTA. They're a place called a "state".... If a "state" is so great why don't they have an SDS painted in ugly yellow and blue on their BB court??? Come back Thumper???
