Losing guys at the 11th hour must feel like betrayal to all who have been convinced a kid was coming here for months, but doesn't it just come with the territory? Especially when we are chasing guys who are so sought after that they have offers from FBS schools?

I went to the Howling Pack event in SF. Here are some triscuits of knowledge I gained. I spoke with coach Middleton, Watson, and Ockinga.
They are not waiting or working on anyone else. This is it. They've moved on from Zachary a while back.
Mike Frederick has beefed up already in the offseason program. He was playing at 168 lbs during the season and is up over 190 already. Coach O is really challenging him to take the feature back spot and pushing the competition.
They have 80 guys currently working out, compared to 60 last year at this time.
Coach O said they have all really settled in as a staff. He was genuinely excited about the schedule next season, specifically opening with Drake to get warmed up before heading to BG. He basically said opening at NM last year was a brutal way to start and it was like they were still learning players names and they were trying to defend the triple option.
Nielson says they are very pleased as the targeted many of these guys early and stayed with them throughout the process and it paid off.

I went to the social tonight at Verne Eide. There is some bitterness about losing Koerner at the last minute, especially because he gave no indication whatsoever of waivering in his commitment to the Yote staff. Had they known he was wavering they would've jumped on another prospect. Was told they are still waiting on grades for Jacobs... Regardless of potentially losing both kids from that school, we have our foot in the door and coaches are excited about other kids from that very successful program. They are really excited about all the beef they brought in. Coach Nielsen said they brought in just over a ton of linemen at 2300lbs. Crawford has the staff jacked about his abilities to contribute sooner rather than later. Was a good time and very informational.

People say the championships are won with a good running game and good defense. Well my interpretation of that...if you can run the ball, you have a good O-line...and if you have a good D-line, you have a good defense. Therefore, the game is won and lost up front. The shear numbers of linemen USD now has is going to create really competitive linemen. I love it. I'm not necessarily expecting an incredible season this year, but I won't be surprised!!!
Thanks to all the coaches for the great job you guys are doing. And like I said in previous posts, for all us fans out here...let's make sure to do our part!!!

In terms of skills, he has them in spades. Getting the size to go with it will go a long way. I love our schedule next season. I think it sets up very well. Seeing the results of a full year in the system and the offseason will be fun to witness in the spring. I am really looking forward to the improvement of the first year players and the redshirts.

And maybe we can cash in this time if he never gets his "shot" at Iowa...? He knows what USD has to offer, developed relationships with the coaching staff, and was committed until the last minute.

From what I was told I am not sure the door is open for those guys who went FBS at the 11th hour.

Mick just said we're waiting on 2 more. Someone else above most have decomitted already, and potentially BB3 I will make a guess that Jacob Zachary was dropped. He seems to have issues if you follow him on Twitter. In addition, grades were always a lingering problem, so I wouldn't be shocked if those carried over here. BBIII must have told the coaches he is going to EMU or YSU. Kordus is a mystery to me. I see from Bolden's twitter, his school's internet is down. He is going to sign, I have little doubt there. Kordus is unique because he's actually a 2016 graduate. Spent last year playing at a prep school in North Carolina. He's already on campus, so they didn't include him on the list.

Zachary's twiiter still says USD commit with paw prints FWIW. This one's complicated all the way around.

Do we know anything about Cody Jennings? Jennings chose USD over multiple FBS offers. Barring injury, there's almost zero chance he doesn't start next year. Very good player.

Believe Jay Elsen noted a out 10 days ago he was taking an official visit to IA st and USD was hoping not to lose him. Good to see he is signed. It was Iowa and there was, apparently, no real worry that he was going to bail. Another recruit said Coker was all in with USD and even reassured the others of that fact in their group chat.
