THIS is why Coach P and A.J. both hold back a scholarship each year. The transfer market is a tool you never know when you will need, but you don't want to be short-handed when an opportunity presents itself.
Nice pick-up. Rather than filling a position of need like the Jacks had to this off-season, this was a size upgrade that helps us compete with Power-5 schools. Love it.
On a side note, I recognize that name, because this staff was recruiting Aspen out of HS two or three years ago. Looks like they stayed in contact!

I feel like this pick-up (combined with the recruiting class) shows that the staff is building at team to beat P5 teams, not just the SL. And although every school thinks their recruits could be the 'best ever', it also feel like there is starting to be a noticeable talent gap opening up with even SDSU - not just this past year.

With the exceptions of the Nelson kid and a healthy Selland the state roster is meh.

I believe this means that Aspen will get to play right away. So, 2 full years of Hanna and Aspen along with the 3s & 4s already looking good. There are plenty of shooters. How the PG position is handled is the only question, but another ridiculous looking record appears likely...

I feel like there's a lot of disrespect for State's program going on that could easily come back to haunt some folks in the not too distant future. The Jacks aren't going anywhere and a lineup of Theuninck, Irwin, Selland, Nelson and Burckhard isn't as talent-gapped as some of you seem to believe.

I hate to admit it but I agree with Waterboy on there not being a huge gap in talent up at State. Do I like our chances, yes but, it certainly won't be easy. We seem to play at their level and vice versa no matter how it looks on paper. It will be interesting to see how our new players acclimate to the process and adjust to the speed of the game. I, for one, do not expect a super gaudy record. Many new working parts. We shall see how it goes. Go Yotes!!!!

To be clear I said there is a widening talent gap. As in behind -> caught up/even -> ahead. And as in talent - not results. Teams over/under achieve all the time. That said, measuring SDSU against themselves, I would take all but 1 or 2 of their previous 10 teams over the current one. That may be more of a statement about how good those teams were, but it is a main reason I see a talent gap opening when comparing a 13 player roster.

Yeah, I agree with the trend line you are describing, and it makes me happy to see how well this staff is doing on the recruiting trail going forward. The foundation was laid with Williams scoring some huge recruits that paid dividends for both her and Dawn later on. Where would we be now without Seekamp and the Arens and Duffy sisters? Dawn took that ball and ran with it, and took the achievement to an even higher level. Now we are seeing the recruiting snowball. I do think that the term "talent gap" is probably a step too far, though. We will be battling the Jacks for supremacy as long as both of these coaches stay here IMO. I'm just glad we no longer have that "talent gap" with State working against us, as it did for so many years. I think the success or failure of their PG grad transfer will be pretty critical to their success this upcoming season. Riley C-J did a lot to hold their 2020 team together. She saved her best for last in the championship game, too. For that matter, we will be missing Ciara, so I think it's early to predict a similar season. 2020 was something we might not ever see again. I hope we do, though.

USD & SDState will once again be the favorites heading into next season. I think USD will be the favorites, but if Selland returns at full strength (and I hope she does), the Yotes won't have much margin for error. I have read that Selland's foot issues are chronic, so there is no guarantee that she will be at 100%.
