I agree that Selland's health will be a huge variable in this whole deal once again.
However, if she's healthy, I just don't see much separation. Theuninck on Korngable, Irwin on Lamb, Selland on Arens, Nelson on Ugofsky/a freshman? and Burckhard on Sjerven just isn't much of a mismatch.
The thing that is going to be so critical next year is that you've lost your two best perimeter defenders in McKeever and Duffy. You've lost your best creator in Duffy. And you've lost your instant offense and insurance against foul trouble for Sjerven in Frederick. Not to mention just the fact of their experience and poise. Those things are immeasurable in a lot of ways and impossible to really replace.
Granted, if Williston comes in and is eligible and healthy, you may have your Frederick problem mostly solved. But you're still talking about a lot of offensive production and experience that is just gone now. I'm not saying that is entirely irreplaceable, but it's going to take time to for people to get comfortable in different roles.
Things are going to be different for Lamb. She's going to get everybody's best perimeter defender every night now. She's going to be the focus of everybody's game plan. That will take a little time to adjust to. Getting away from Tylee Irwin with a whole team drilled all week on keeping you from getting off is a bit different animal than getting open looks on the weak side against Cascio-Jensen. Being the first option is just not the same as being the second or third. Her overall numbers are going to go up ... but her efficiency isn't going to.
By the same token, Sjerven simply isn't going to get as many roll feeds to the bucket and help side defense is going to be a step closer on the block without McKeever and Duffy on the floor. Yes, there are some kids who can shoot it but we don't really know yet if they can shoot it down 2 with 1:30 left at Frost Arena. Hitting 3's up 30 is a whole different kettle of fish.
The lights are going to burn a bit brighter on everybody next season. For better or worse, Duffy ate up a lot of spotlight and attention last season. Bright lights can bring out beauty or expose flaws. Which it does next year for everybody is the million dollar question.
