I don't think anyone is saying they aren't trying, but perhaps as of late not as hard as the opponent they are playing against. For the most part from top to bottom including Boots, the fans, the players etc will tell you that the effort wasn't very good on Saturday against the Sioux. I think it's fair game to be on the critical side on the effort argument this week. I believe things have gone well for the most part over the past year and a half. I just don't want to see it be allowed to slip. I still can't believe that USD hasn't gotten swept by UND since 1991. That is an incredible streak because there were some decent Sioux teams during that time frame. Granted there were some mediocre ones as well.

Yeah I can agree with you on that. You're right. I don't want to see them slip and fall either. That is an incredible streak to not get swept by them since 1991. That is hard to believe. I didn't realise it had been that long. They have had many stellar teams, not so many as of late though. This years team is much improved though.

Oh man, you had to remind me. I was at those games in Denver. My buddy from Sioux City and I drove home all night after the loss to make it to work the next day. Nothing like driving through Nebraska on I-80 at 4am after a loss to ... choke gag ... Kearney in the Regional.

I'll take responsibility for that 1991 information deal. That was information that was in the UND Men's BB notes submitted by the U of ND Sports Information Department to us broadcasters to use as in game material. ***The Sioux will also be eying their first regular season sweep of the Coyotes since the North Central Conference days when they won both games in 1991.***Maybe it just FELT like it was that long ago. Sorry gang, RJ

I think one more thing we all need to think about is that everyone shows their emotions differently. So before anyone goes off anymore about everyone not trying, think about that a little. Were they all a little flat Saturday? Absolutely. It happens to most teams. Many players show their emotions differently though. Some players keep quiet and go about their business. Others may make a 3 or go in for a dunk and go crazy. Some guys might drain a 3 or make a nice shot and sprint back to play D. So we really need to keep in mind that people show emotions differently. Its a part of the game. Everyone is different!

Showing Emotions doesn't have much to do with rebounding and turnovers. rebounding is generally a product of effort. UND had guys with uncontested putbacks on multiple occassions. No one said the Yotes weren't trying. It's just that they weren't trying hard enough to win a Great West game (which according to many isn't a very good conference in the grand scheme of things). The amount of effort given is a relative statement to the effort that the opponent is giving off. USD did not match UND's intensity and execution. In the Summit League it will take a consistantly better effort than Saturday not only to compete but avoid finishing last in the conference with the adsence of Centenary next year.
USD was at the point last year and at times this year where they would have just needed small improvements to be a good Summit League program. As of late the Yotes have a long ways to go to be a competitive program. We will see what the rest of this year brings. It's kind of an audition of sorts. If the Yotes can't play the part here they certainly won't be able to hang on the big stage.
I don't see anyone over reacting here either but on the other hand to not recognize what happened on Saturday is also ignorant as well (said without pointing at anyone in particular). Maybe it's nothing, maybe it will be the catalyst towards a good finish to the season. What it is for sure is concerning and something that could become trend although I hope not. I think what is bothersome is to see the poor effort on top of it being the big rivalry game, big crowd etc. The signs pointed to a highly emotional contest for the Yotes, one with revenge in mind to atone for the game in Grand Forks. We did not see that.
Of course the sky is not falling but lets not go too far to the other side either and blow it off as no big deal. It is a big deal. As fans should we show similar characteristics as the coach would show. If we didn't think it was a big deal, should we wish the coach didn't think it a big deal either. If it isn't treated as it's a big deal than the odds of it happening again are much greater.

To expand on my last post, everyone thought he didn't play with emotion and raked him over the coals.
Honestly, this year is going better than I expected. After losing someone like Tyler Cain, especially on the defensive side, it was going to be a learning experience for Louie, Jake and Jordan that when they let their guy go, no one down low is going to stop them.
It's affected the offense too, and you can ask any coach, and a lot of them will say the defensive possession lead to offense. Last year we saw Roman and Kendall on many break-aways. Not so much this year.
This is a team that lost it's defensive post and they are trying to figure out how to cope and it's not coming together. Honestly, I thought a .500 would be how the Coyotes would do when the season started. Losing someone like Cain and all of the looking ahead to next year, I figured this team was doomed.
Oh, last year there was a ton of talk of getting into a post season tourney if USD won the Great West, there was NO buzz around that on media day and I have barely heard any talk of it since. Like I said, the fans are too focused on next year and I think that is attributing to ticket sales and the product on the court.
