I disagree as I don't think the seating capacity is going to be a top goal. I think it is going to be more the quality of seating. Hopefully that means good site lines rather than cushy seat cushions and accessibility to food and beverage but unfortunately I think the country club amenities will outweigh the important of a good view of the game. That is just how it is.

Here's a quote that answers some of the speculation we have had in this thread: That seating capacity scares me a little... If there is an FBS minimum, we will be left behind again when the bunnies try to follow the Bison to the next level...

The seating capacity isn't an issue if there is a contingency for another phase to add more seating if the needs arises. As long as we plan ahead and don't box ourselves into something I am ok with 13,000, for now. It may be as simple as planning ahead to add another deck of seating (make sure the foundations and infrastructure is there to do it).

I knew by just looking at the photo that was released that the goal will be to cater to the donors and maybe put some suites in more than it was just to add seating. I won't expect to be sitting on the west side when it is done because there is a good chance that you would either need a ticket from a business sponsor or a howling pack member to be over there. Hopefully that will open up better seats on the east side.

In all honesty, if you cannot afford it, I get it. It can be a stretch. Just keep the sniping at the parties that fund the program's existence to yourself.

You seem to want to be able to contribute nothing yet still have expectations of being catered to and getting prime seating locations in football and basketball. Not usually the way life works.

Cousin Eddie why don't you come out of your RV every now and then during basketball season. It seems like you like to be plenty critical of my comments but where is your participation in the basketball threads and game threads. Why don't you respond to some of my comments in the Western Illinois basketball thread. I would like to see you just once reply to some of my positive comments which seems to be quite often when football season is over. You go ahead and focus on what you don't like in my comments and I will continue to enjoy both of our basketball teams. I suggest you try that sometime. Anyone that is an alum of the University has given plenty of money to the school and the athletic department in general so I don't want to hear about anyone that attended school being frugal or somehow not supportive. With the students the college does not exist. Just look at the basketball arena. In what other arena do you ever see such a huge club level right at court level that is reserved for only the chosen ones to be a part of. That alone shows where the priorities of the athletic program are at. It's not about expanding the fan base, it's about taking care of the select few. Tell me that isn't the truth. If someone wanted to make a contribution to the athletic department by buying season tickets then need to pay an extra howling pack fee just to get into seats that sit empty 80% of the time anyway. If you are the AD or president which fan do you want. A fan that contributes 300 dollars (through HP donation or season tickets that sit empty most of the time) to the program but attends maybe 5 total games or less a year. Some none at all. Or would you want a fan that comes to maybe 10-20 games a year and contributed 200 dollars per year but nothing to the Howling Pack. I can tell you which person the athletes would prefer. If you convert fan interest into dollars I would be one of the highest donors of them all. For a successful overall program you need both. You need money donors and you need active fan interest. Many are able to do one but not the other. USD's biggest problem is pure numbers in fan interest.

Has anyone heard any updates yet on the renovation plans? One thing that I think they should strongly consider is building a shell around the outside of the current structure( I don't know if they have any plans to improve the exterior). This would then allow them to easily connect both sides (once they build new seats on the west side of course), have a wider concourse and would also improve the flow of people throughout the building. It would also improve the overall appearance of the facility, it would be really cool to see it look like the Denny from the outside and we could also finally put all the bunnies comments about it looking like a garbage can, grain silo, etc. to rest. Just my thoughts on it.

Has anyone heard any updates yet on the renovation plans? Nope. Not me.One thing that I think they should strongly consider is building a shell around the outside of the current structure( I don't know if they have any plans to improve the exterior). This would then allow them to easily connect both sides (once they build new seats on the west side of course), have a wider concourse and would also improve the flow of people throughout the building. I'm not an architect, but it seems to me that extending anything beyond the existing footprint would add an extraordinary amount of cost to the project. It would have to be for something very worthwhile, and I don't think connecting the east and west concourses qualifies, from a cost-benefit standpoint.
I do agree that it is unfortunate that there is so little space beyond the endzones to connect the two sides, but I think it's just going to be what it is. Possibly in the far future they might try something like that on the north end, but only if we were trying to increase capacity to an FBS level IMO.It would also improve the overall appearance of the facility, it would be really cool to see it look like the Denny from the outside and we could also finally put all the bunnies comments about it looking like a garbage can, grain silo, etc. to rest. Just my thoughts on it. Who the crap cares what the Bunnies fans think of the Dome? We certainly aren't going to base any facility improvement plans on insults we get from them. All they need to know is that inside that grain silo, they are going to lose. A lot. They can call it whatever they like.
I like the look of it, personally. It certainly is unique, and historic, as domes go. As an alumnus, I have a lot of good memories in that building, and that's worth something. For the alumni that spend large sums of their money supporting the athletic department's vision, I imagine it holds some nostalgia for them as well.
For the alumni that spend large chunks of their time going to all or most of the games, despite having very busy lives, with careers, chasing their kids around to soccer, baseball, football, softball, girl scouts, volunteering at church, coaching, taking care of elderly parents, et cetera in their "free time", I imagine the dome holds some nostalgia for them, too.
But its hypocritical for those alumni to be sad when the student section disappears at half-time, right? We should understand that the bar waits for no one.*rant over* Oh, and by the way, If you could use paragraphs for long posts, it would be SO much easier to read...thanks. Welcome to the board! Yay!

I wasn't trying to be rude by saying the dome could use a facelift, I was just giving an opinion.
