New season on-deck, with two new assistant coaches and a chance to repeat as Summit League season champs!
Coaches Pre-season poll:
1. Denver 47(5) 2. South Dakota 45(3) 3. Oral Roberts 35 4. Fort Wayne 33 5. Omaha 22 5. NDSU 22 7. SDSU 12 8. WILL 8
We were 1/2 game away from winning the Summit outright last year. If we had done that Vermillion would have been the host of the season-end tournament this year. If we are able to host a tournament next year I bet we beat the league tourney attendance records. The SCSC is a great facility for that.

Revisiting the Volleyball team's first look at the SCSC arena a year ago.
Coach Williamson: "[...] It's incredible, it's something that is going to take our program to the next level, and we really appreciate it."
I'd say she was right.

Bummer! Coyotes were swept by Wyoming 25-21 25-20 25-15. Coach said they were taken out-of-system by Wyoming's serving and transition offense.
Back in action today at 11 AM against Portland, and 6PM against Abilene Christian.

Swept by Portland, then swept ACU. 1-2 on the season is probably not how we wanted to start the season with so many returning players!
Portland is now 3-0, beating Wyoming in five sets. A good team, apparently. I think the WCC has had at-large bids in the NCAA tournament in the past.

Maybe Jakob Parks can play ala the movie Ladybugs if anyone remembers that gem. Parks was a volley ball player in Florida and also a freshman QB at USD.

Parks was like a national champion in volleyball if I remember correctly. The might've returned alot of players but they also lost the conference player of the year in Audrey Reeg so I think growing pains were expected

Another tough weekend ahead for Coyote Volleyball. (at least they are in Hawaii, though) Thur #22 Utah Fri #30 Hawaii Sat Western Carolina A couple opportunities to knock off a ranked team, but likely will end up with a 2-4 record by Sunday. This should help toughen them up before conference play, at least. edit* Here's a link to live-stream the Hawaii game (Friday at 11:55 PM!) if you are an insomniac: bigwest.sidearmstreaming.com/watch/?Live=46

The Coyotes were still playing Hawaii after 1:30AM Central time on Friday Night/Saturday Morning. I just happened to check the volleyball schedule and found a link to the live video. I caught the last half of the 3rd set and it was a very lopsided match from what I saw. Hawaii won 25-19, 25-15, 25-13. I don't know how good Hawaii is supposed to be but they were much better then the Coyotes. South Dakota just made way too many unforced errors and when they didn't Hawaii was better anyway. Hopefully they can salvage the match against Western Carolina.
Hawaii had only one hitting error for the entire match which is apparently incredible in volley ball. On top of that the Yotes did not have any blocks. Their announcers were wearing Hawaiian shirts and Leis as well. They call them the "Bows". Like many of the other sports announcers out west of course they call SD the "Ki-Yot-eees" which is not surprising.

The Coyotes did indeed salvage the last match in Hawaii against Western Carolina fairly easily 25-13, 25-18, 25-17. The tough competition should help the team get better in a hurry and help them for the Summit season which is really the most important part anyway.

Not surprised Hawaii was so dominant. They have been an elite program in VB, and were ranked #20 preseason.
