Only on a USD board I think the prevailing thought was that Yelk made the most sense. I remember when Nielson left I thought F**k what now. WIU just back to respectability. I also knew when Yelk went with Nielson that WIU was left with nothing. Only on a USD board...do the posters recognize Nielson and Yelk are good coaches? Where were you going with that thought?

MEH, Charlie Fisher and Company are more than capable to lay waste to USD
Charlie Fisher was part of the NCAA D-I FCS Richmond program that claimed a National Championship.
Newly acquired Louisville assistant coach has got our secondary working better than I have seen in 4 or 5 years.
USD will be coming into a packed stadium (homecomming) also the University is hyping up this game.

Wow this thread is really taking a downward turn here lately. Why is this a revenge game for Western. Last year they went into Vermillion were backed into a corner took a lead pipe to the Coyotes and stole their wallet before leaving town. Isn't this supposed to be the revenge game for the Coyotes considering that the Necks revenge game was kind of last year. The schedule is tough enough and the resume is good enough where I would rather the Necks look a little more beatable coming into the game and maybe take one win off the stength of schedule to have a better chance to get a win. I don't know about anyone else but for the Coyotes sake and Coyotes sake only I want WIU to lose to Coastal Carolina because if they win it certainly would look like a daunting task to take the game from them on their field in their first home game.
As far as the coaching world, unfortunately because of the actions of many, we really can't trust any. Meaning that coaches will always take the "I am happy where I am at" until the right offer comes and they are gone before the ink dries on the new contract. It's the same in the real world. If someone is looking to better themselves then more power to them. They probably aren't going to tell their boss and co workers that they are looking around. That is just the way of the world. Any recruit coming to a school cannot know for a 100% certainly that the coach will stay the entire time that they are there. I still don't think we really know if Craig Smith was prepared to leave or not. One thing that is fact is that he at least toyed a bit with Drake. Just that action alone probably indicated that if the circumstances were right for him he would have probably been gone this off season. If USD wouldn't have stepped up or Drake really threw the bank at him he could have been former Coyote coach. Just the way it is. Who knows on Neilson's tenture at USD either. What if the Coyotes go 9-2 and make the third round of the playoffs. Nielson would have done something in two short years that no one could come close to doing in Vermillion before him. He becomes desirable then next thing ya know Oregon State or UNLV are calling, he triples his salary and it's good bye USD. No one thought Smith would be as highly desirable as he ended up being and for all we know we almost lost him.

Sadly this is true but don't for one minute think it's not a 2 way street universities many times are just as guilty as coach i actually think coaches leaving for conference foes happens more than many would think in fact this year coach Fisher former boss left Richmond to be the head coach at Delaware.

Last year the WIU vs USD game in Vermillion was very close. What are the biggest improvements in WIU's play this year versus last year? Looking forward to watching WIU take on Coastal Carolina today. Rooting for the Leathernecks today. Also rooting for North Dakota and Bowling Green. Will be very interested to see how UND responds today playing Montana State.

Let's see...last week it was the "Flagship Bowl" with UND. Next week maybe we should call it the "Revenge Bowl" with WIU, only contrary to some disgruntled WIU fans it is the Coyotes who are seeking revenge.
Last year it was the Leathernecks who sought revenge. This year it is the Coyotes' turn.
Hard to come up with some kind of trophy though......maybe a smiley face?

We are actually a lot different than last year we are a much more physical team on offense defensively we are much improved switched to the 3-4 and are DB's have been much better.

I'm wishing WIU the best of luck today. I'd pick playing a team that won the week before any day over a team that lost (unless its the Patriots). Looking forward to catching the game as well.
Also wish the best of luck to Drake, BGSU and UND!!!

For those that want Western Illinois to win today would it be preferred that they sneak in a 3 point win or would it be better for the Coyotes if they beat them 56-0. I can understand wanting Western Illinois to do well after they play the Coyotes but I don't exactly want a juggernaut taking the field against the Coyotes next week. The better Western does today means the lesser odds of a Coyote win next week.

Penalty and turnover filled crapfest with no offensive flow and plenty of special teams breakdowns that ends in a 13-6 final score with WIU winning. That's the type of game we root for.

USD will be coming into a packed stadium (homecomming) also the University is hyping up this game. This might be the funniest things I have seen posted in a long time!!! Hanson field seats 16,368 and the leathernecks attendance is pitiful. 2017 Avg attendance 4909 2016 Avg attendance 4774 2015 Avg attendance 4525 So if a "Packed" stadium means 1/3 full.....then I guess it will be packed.

Stated attendances for past homecoming games at WIU: 2016: 5487 (InSU) 2015: 7125 (SIU) 2014: 5111 (NDSU) Even for homecoming they have trouble getting a stated attendance of 1/3 capacity. But the university is hyping up this game so it should be packed this time.

Western Illinois leads Coastal Carolina 28-10 in the third quarter so most Coyote fans are getting their wish with an undefeated WIU team likely waiting for them in Macomb next week. If the Coyotes level comes down even a little bit getting out of Illinois with a win is going to be very difficult.

Now 42-10 Western Illinois. Looks like a pretty daunting task next week. I would have to think the winner of that game has a very good chance to go to the playoffs.
