Actually, the economic/political theory of crowds is how the betting lines always seem to do such a good job of being an accurate gauge (if the crowd size is big enough, anyway). The Wisdom of Crowds is an interesting read: [/a] a.co/i68bDS1

... Most people expect a really good game. If one team wins this by 2 or more touchdowns then that team will be one to seriously be reckoned with going forward. If you consider just the overall impressiveness of both team not factoring in any pre-season biases these two teams legitimately might both be top 5 teams. It's almost unfair that both have to play each other because a damn good team is going to lose this football game. I completely agree with you on this. Two teams playing some unexpectedly good football (or at least, exceeding preseason expectations). I don't know about you guys, but at this point, I was thinking we'd probably be sitting at 2-1 (I'm guessing most of you guys were thinking the same about your team). We both look to be improved over last year's teams, and obviously last year's game between us was incredibly close. Personally, I think I'm more nervous for this game than for just about any other game down the road for us. We're playing teams like NDSU, where I don't expect we'll win (it'd be nice if we did, but I'm not putting money on it), and teams like Indiana State, where it shouldn't really be that close, but this weekends game could come down to a 4-OT "nail-biter". Those of you coming down to the game, I hope you all have a safe trip down here and back home.

One thing I have noticed is that many of the Western Illinois fans on this board or AGS always shoot down any advantage USD may have in the game and prop up any advantage they may have. On a neutral field these teams look very even right now but what I don't understand is the whole motivation angle. Most Necks fans say they have the intangibles but last time USD played a revenge game was last time they took the field. I already forgot how that one went. One factor that I see many opposing fans making about the Coyotes that just hasn't held any water so far is that they all think they have a better defense then SD. Last year "yes", so far this year it has been a resounding "no". Will that hold true against WIU? Who knows but I don't think anyone should assume they have an advantage on the D end just yet until it has been proven true. Another misnomer is about the strength of schedule being weaker for the Coyotes but WIU's opponents records haven't exactly been something to write home about. One factor that has been true for the most part over the last year in games is that USD gets out to a fast starts. Last year they were blowing those leads. So far this year they have been doing a better job in managing those leads. If the Coyotes get out early again both teams know what happened last year with the come back. That is something Western can draw from but that is something that the Coyotes will be very motivated from. It is still early in the season for both teams but A's go out to both so far. I don't know the specifics about Western but if the Coyotes can just draw even at the LOS with WIU I like the skilled position players that the Yotes can throw out. I am sure Western has that too but as I said if the Coyotes can hold the LOS to a draw I like the Coyotes because of Streveler, the recievers and the secondary which I think are big strengths of this Coyote team. One factor that I also think needs to be brought up is not just that the Coyotes didn't only just beat the #10 team in the country (although that was obviously an over rated ranking) but they smashed them. I don't really care much what happened after halftime in that game but what stands out to me is that when both team's spirits were high and UND's confidence high prior to them being morally defeated USD put up 400 yards on them at half time. The half where the game was still in the balance and the half that UND was a better team then they are today. I think for the most part USD's defense has definitely played up to their full capability but I still don't think the offense has played their best game yet. Don't get me wrong they have played well just not full cylinders well. I think there is still room for improvement yet. Another thing I have failed to hear mentioned is that the Coyotes have double the time to get ready for this game then does WIU. I think that factor evens out the home field advantage factor that WIU has. I don't know about in college but in the NFL a team coming off a bye week generally does pretty good after that bye. Of course WIU fans are going to talk about the areas were they have the advantages just like thats what USD fans do. Last time WIU played a revenge game they won by 52 pts as far as strength of schedule neither team has played anyone who is going to light the world on fire. I personally think these are the 3rd and 4th best team behind NDSU and SDSU but possibly 2nd and 3rd this week will tell me a lot about the valley and if I'm right about a team like YSU who I think is way overrated How many revenge games do you need? Is every USD/WIU game a revenge game now?

Really? your source on prediction of win loss is 5dimes? They now shit about FCS football. I love that they exist because they cater to chumps (like me). For those that do not know. 5dimes is not operated in territorial United States. Ummm because it't against federal law. But, not International law, Yes I'm ashamed I bet $100 USD on the UNLV game in 2013 for WIU to cover whatever the points were. They looked really good the week before against Minnesota. I lost, I didn't get paid. Also I think I paid more like $120 to make the bet, yup, not legal, they make the rules, I fully expect they would have paid. I have no Idea, I did it one time and lost. My point is their line shifts based on chumps that want to bet on it. I promise you they always get their cut. Maybe USD should stop laying bets on 5dimes. 5dimes has a max of $50 to get on a fcs game else is be worth millions

Prediction Friday! 45 - 34 Yotes (Fast start then hold on for dear life)
Bonus 'Next week's Opponent' Prediction: 31 - 20 YSU (Not sure what to make of YSU yet, but I don't think SDSU's D (especially D line) is too solid right now)
What is the line for the game now?

On the FCS Wedge there was a reference to WIU scoring almost 50% of their points in the 3rd quarter.
USD has had fast starts scoring a lot of points in the first quarter and first half. I don't think the offense has stalled in the second half there is just no need to put up another 30 or 40 points in the second half when you have that big of a lead at halftime.
In the past USD has come out slow in the 3rd quarter both defensively and offensively but that has not been the case this year. Hopefully this plays into USD's favor for this game.

Wow, it seems kind of quiet on here for the night before a pretty dang big game. My 'gut' still feels pretty good about this team. There sure is no reason for it not to.
So here we go Coyotes.
USD 31 WIU 21 And the necks score late.
Here we go!

I know the players need the rest and recoup yada-yada-yada but gosh as a fan I absolutely hate these bye weeks. It is brutal to have to wait that long especially after the hype of the North Dakota win. Finally we get football tomorrow and I can't wait. I am so nervous for tomorrow with what is on the line and to see if the Coyotes can continue this magic wave they have been on this year. There is obviously a lot of intrigue tomorrow with Nielson coming back and the Coyotes probably wanting to right some wrongs from last year. I don't care as much about those things than I care about the Coyotes simply playing a good game and doing everything possible to walk out of there with a "W". My feeling is that Western Illinois may come out blitzing the Yotes so Steveler will need those check downs in his pocket ready to go.

I'm nervous too! I think the yotes are going to have to come out strong like they have been and keep that energy for 3/4. If we keep them off balance with our offensive scheme...and the defense plays as they have been...the leathernecks will lose! USD has been playing with attitude and heart ....they gotta keep bringing that swag! USD will win inHansen field!! Good luck yotes!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

So out of curiosity where are the Yotes staying tonight? THe Pizazz of Burlington? I would think the yotes stay in Burlington, Perhaps Iowa City. I don't know if Ft. Madison or Keokuk have a large enough hotel to block out 50 rooms.

Macomb doesn't have a Holiday Inn Express or something similar?

GAME DAY! Five dimes has the line at USD -1. The GAM (Game Analyzer Mechanism) shows USD -5. The five dimes line is skewed too tight by optimistic WIU money. This one, provided we don't see the upset, is easy money. Take Coyotes to win and cover. I'm taking the under because of the defenses. It's a great day for football! Go Yotes!

Interesting answer from Streveler when asked about the thoughts/emotions coming with the coaches going back to WIU: linkReading between the lines version: why the hell would we care who used to coach where? We are worried about a game plan for Saturday. That's all.

Macomb doesn't have a Holiday Inn Express or something similar? Yes they do but I remember when the Rabbits came here 2 yrs ago they flew into peoria and stayed there and were late for the game cause its was the last game of the season and it was icy and about -10 out.
