First year fan that has never been in town for Dakota Days and knows not a thing about it. Any insight would be helpful. We're planning on leaving early Friday morning and getting into town around 2 pm Friday. We have a camper in town that we'll be pulling into the lot on Saturday morning. Are we going to miss any events? What events should we make sure to catch? Any must do's or don't are appreciated! GoYotes!

As a player I never got to attend the parade downtown on Saturday morning. As an alum, I love it. Stop in to all the bars downtown and enjoy the parade then get over to the dome and tailgate. Will be a packed tailgate so park your rig early then leave it to head downtown.

I'm not a parade guy, prefer to go tailgate instead. There really aren't any other big events surrounding homecoming for the non-students to attend. You could get breakfast at the bars if you want. Kegs and eggs!
It will be packed. DDays would sell out even if we were playing the school for the blind. Plenty more will be at the tailgate who don't even have tickets too.

Not really much of a parade guy either. It's just the only game of the season that downtown is buzzing before the game. It's not so much about the parade as the party going on throughout all of downtown. I kind of consider it part of the tailgate

There parade happens and as a collateral effect, there are tons of people downtown. The best part, however, takes place at Carey's, Leo's, the Varsity and the Pub. They are packed with students, alumni, fans, and others. Parts of the parade enter into these establishments and "say hi" - specifically, the Shriner's Band comes into Carey's and elsewhere, they play their music, drink a beer and go on to the next place. Come 11AM/12PM or so, we get back to the tailgate to eat, drink and be merry.

I like to go to the bars in the morning before the parade. The place is just popping and over the years I have seen some very, very strange things all before 9 AM.
Anymore I am a tailgating guy as it gets too difficult to do both and I would not recommend driving after you've been to the bars, even if you've only had one or two. I kind of wish the D-Days game was a late afternoon start time, 2PM is just too early of a start to do everything.

The 2PM start time is for our own well being.
Agree with all the comments regarding Saturday morning downtown. Been a long time since I have been downtown on Friday night of D-Days, but have heard that it is a good time. Have seen some videos on social media the past couple of years of the pep band hitting up the different bars on Friday night and playing the school song.

Second time I"m missing D-Days since my first one in 2004 and the first D-Days I am missing since I was at basic training in 2009. I will be throwing my own tailgate at my place here in NC, though. Happyyyyyyy D-Daaayyysss!!
