I'm told that Pelini left Nielson hanging after the game. Watching the replay it looks like an assistant had to go out and meet Bob. What a chode. There's nothing to protest. He lost and couldn't deal with it. Such a small man. Actually not true. I watched Bo from the moment the last second rolled off the clock. He ran to Nielsen and shook his hand, also some players and assistants. I don’t like the guy, but he left the field in the manner one should. Congrats on the big win. That was a heavyweight fight that lived up to the hype. Hopefully both teams can meet again in the playoffs because I love seeing close games like that. Regarding Bo, he did shake Bob’s hand after the game and from the folks I know in the program, he has much respect for Neilsen and what he did at WIU and what he is now doing in Vermillion. It is truly a testament to his ability to win in these two places which makes him one of the top coaches at this level.

Truthfully, I don't like the guy either for a number of reasons, but actually glad that he indeed did shake Bobs hand and a few players. That's what a head coach should do. What I'm wondering is if Herbster will bill Youngstown for the locker that Bo took care of post game? He had to come in the training room and have his hand x-rayed before they left. The results were negative regarding broken bones but he did severely bruise his hand. He's gonna be sore for some time. His hand was wrapped and iced. Lol Great win by USD. One at a time. Holy crap!?! Are you kidding? I mean...wow. He is who I thought he was.

Are you ok with this being publicized? The league should know this. Unacceptable on any level. Pathetic.

What an absolute blast Dakota Days was this year. This year has been one nice dream for Coyote fans. I have to keep hitting myself to remind myself that this IS REALLY HAPPENING this year. Some general observations The defensive line played their tails off. For the most part they did a good job. YSU had their moments running but it was nothing like what they did against SDSU. If you re-listen to the pre season video where Nielson was talking about making the dome sacred ground. I remember him also mentioning that his team will always give great effort and his team will execute well. Well the execution part for sure came true today. The Coyotes had multiple pass plays where Steveler put the ball right on the money and the receiver out battled a defender right in their grill. Those plays for the touchdowns and some others were just simply great plays by the Coyotes. You know what is really cool about this game. This is the first time this year where the Coyotes were smacked in the mouth a few times by an opponent and they were able to come through in the end in a very tight game. The Coyotes will be able to draw from how they responded after the game was tied up at 28. One thing that was unknown about this team is how they would respond when they didn't get off to a great start and how they would respond in a game where they were forced to play a normal type game all the way to the end and need to come up with a clutch drive against a great Defense in YSU. All the other times games were close was because the Coyotes were way ahead and let the opponent back in the game. Having to deal with the stress of a close 4th quarter and to come up big is a really good sign about this team. Past teams would have crumbled to YSU in the 4th quarter. Even though the Coyotes were up 14 and had the game tied back up it wasn't the same type comeback by YSU that other teams have had. Their comeback came in the normal flow of the game not by changing their game plan to a pass first game plan. Today the play calling was pretty good but the execution was excellent. The Yotes did start getting a little too conservative in the 2nd half but it all worked out. I tell you Youngstown State is absolutely for real and they are not over rated at all IMO. They are fast and physical on D. Their O line was good but the Coyote D line did just enough to stymie them, especially when it mattered. Youngstown has got to be beating themselves up over their dropped passes. They had at least 3 or 4 critical drops where if they catch the ball at least a couple of them go for big yardage. The Coyotes really hurt themselves with penalties. They had two 4th down conversions that were called back due to penalties in back to back plays. Other penalties hurt as well. I don't know why on kick returns players commit the illegal block as often as they do. It hurt the Yotes today. If you see the numbers on the back of a jersey, just don't even touch them. That type of a block almost never helps (without getting caught) as much as it hurts if you do get caught. At the end of the game Youngstown pretty much lost the game by running on first and second down from their five yard line. Bo should have known better with the Coyote timeouts that by doing that he was basically handing the Coyotes the ball at mid field with a minute left. That error obviously played critical in the outcome. We will take it. Youngstown seemed to have momentum and wanted OT but Pelini is gonna be haunted by that series of events. I was actually hoping the Coyotes wouldn't just settle for a field goal at the end but that is how it worked out. How about the ice water in the veins of Ryan Weese. It wasn't a long field goal but those high pressure moments can really mess with a kicker mentally. He drained that thing right down the middle. That will be a huge confidence builder going forward. I do wonder why the Coyotes spiked the ball with 11 seconds left instead of running it down to 2 or 3 seconds. Maybe I missed something and they tried to kick it on third down and they wanted extra time in case of a botched snap of something but with no timeouts that would not have made sense because they could not have gotten another shot at it. Could you imagine if Youngstown would have returned the kick for a touchdown. Many people might not even think about this but I loved the kickoff that was a line drive right down the middle because those types of kicks are hard to return and it was such a line drive that it got all the way through the end zone. The kick return scared me more then them having two plays. Bob Nielson is coaching at a National Championship level right now like he did when he took an unknown UMD team and won two National titles with them. I like to pick apart coaching decisions because as an arm chair quarterback that is what some of us do as fans. He just hasn't done much at all that is really easy to second guess. He is on a roll as a coach right now. He gets it period. Now onto Indiana State so hopefully the dome will sell out that game too and also the Southern Illinois game two weeks later. I reread your post because I thought of something else you said. You questioned why we did something. You wondered why we didn't run the clock down to 4 seconds before spiking the ball? I believe the answer to that question is because we were out of timeouts, and if for some unknown reason there was a penalty at the end, the refs could give the option to Youngstown to decline and run 10 seconds off the clock, therefore the game goes to overtime. I stand corrected on this but I believe that to be the mindset. Strevelar was well aware of all that as I'm guessing it was talked bout during the timeout.

Everybody must have had a blast yesterday as there wasn't much posted during or after the game. All I have to say is what a fun day. I'm still exhausted.

Unbelievable- how does WIU McGuire get player of the week with 334 yrds passing and 3 tds. When we had a guy get over 200 yrds receiving against a top 5 defense. Jackson is POY in my opinion.

Still think shamar is more worthy. I just don't like to see the boys get shortchanged.

I'm watching the game replay this morning as a lead up to a full day of MLB playoffs. I remember this 2nd half being much more tense in real time. Our defense is so much better than in previous years, that is the difference in this team. The O can score, they've always been able to score, it's the D getting stops and at the very least limiting the other team's production.
The student section across the way looks bad. I initially thought more students stayed for the second half, I guess I was wrong. If students can't stay for the second half of a game of this magnitude what will get them to stay? They are kind of hopeless.
