Given the crappy weather, the competition, and the idiot love fest going on in Brookings this weekend, I was very pleased with the turnout this weekend. It would have been pretty easy for people to stay home yesterday. Until we are fielding a championship quality team year in and year out consistently, I will be happy with a 3/4 full dome for a non-rivalry game against a team that we are heavily favored against. I guess there are two types of fan support. The first is to get people to show up. That is what you are talking about. This is important for generating revenue and getting people interested. The second type of fan support is actually chearing/getting loud. That is what I’m talking about. I maintain just being there as a fan dosnt make it more difficult for the opponent to operate on offense being there AND being loud does. For this reason we do not take full advantage of playing at home Uh oh. Have we reached the point where long time fans start to lecture 'new' fans who are paying attention because of the success? I hope not. That is such an obnoxious NDSU-ish thing - I hope we are better than that. Let's welcome everyone to the party, even if they arrived a bit late, and not lecture them about the best way to attack the food table.

84%? According to CF, 8,390 would be closer to 115% capacity... I haven't looked at CF's math if he showed any. I went ahead and did counting of my own. Here are the total number of tickets available in the grandstand: A: 222 B: 718 C: 765 D: 704 E: 620 F: 704 G: 764 H: 714 I: 60 TOTAL: 5271 Student section, I would guess, is in the neighborhood of 2000. There are 10 booths up top with the media sitting in front of them. I don't know that the media/production crew should count, but let's be generous and call that area 150 people. I believe the Dome Club holds about 300 people. The Coyote Landing probably holds like 200 people. That's a total of 7,921. I'll be generous and call it 8,000. Someone please point out where these numbers are flawed. The Dome doesn't actually hold 10,000 fans. I counted the west side bleachers and they were under 1700 capacity. When they number those bleachers they don't give very much room per seat. The bleachers have to be very packed to get to 1600. yesterday there were maybe 1000-1200 on that side of the field. That also does include the band. I don't know if the band should be counted or not but the entire band does not quite fill the section that they sit in. Your 7921 is probably on the long side. There is little doubt that for football attendance that it is reported quite a bit bigger then it actually is. I would say in general that crowds are reported 2,000 more then is actually paid and probably more then that for actual butts in the seats.

OK - this stadium capacity thing seems like a false dilemma to me. What point is being proven again?

We're finally getting people interested in coyote football and we have people criticizing the ones that showed up. My God, just enjoy the ride.

I will say that the Indiana State game was so different then the Youngstown game. Once the score got to be 35-6 the Coyotes didn't really need the crowd much after that. The later the game got the more the crowd stayed on their butts on third down. I really have no problem with that either. I was kind of in easy chair mode for most of the second half as were many others in the dome yesterday. It is kind of nice to have a relaxing stress free game. As long as the crowd is good when they need to be that is the biggest thing. The crowd has been good this year when they have needed to be and I have no problem with the crowd this year much at all.

OK - this stadium capacity seems like a false dilemma to me. What point is being proven again? I believe it was brought up when talking about expanding the capacity of the Dome. Someone ragged on CF again for suggesting we have a lower capacity than 10k and I don't like how defiant of reality some people are regarding the actual capacity.

Putting two and two together, something you apparently would really enjoy doing, I think I figured out who you really are. You're The Count...you know, from Sesame Street. One seat, two seats, ahahahahah! Glad to have you on board Count. Bet you're having a blast with all the numbers the offense is putting up this year. Any other 'Yote fans over there? How about that turd Oscar? Come to think of it he is blue. Probably a bunny fan. No wonder he's a grouch.

Fair enough, but I contend that the actual number is irrelevant for 95% of the conversation. What is relevant: % full (getting better or worse) & how many more people would come (not how many are already there).

Well, whatever we do to add capacity to the Dome, I certainly hope we make sure to have enough spots for all the students to attend the homecoming game. I know of another school who recently updated, and clearly they didn't leave enough spots for the fans on homecoming. We can learn from this (and maybe get a good count?).

On the topic of renovation, what can we do to make the Dome the best facility it can be? The administration is fully committed to making our facilities top notch, look no further than the SCSC and track/soccer complex. What is on everyone's wishlist for the Dome? Obviously the big picture is to improve the team's locker rooms and develop the West side, but what are some finer details that would make the Dome the best fan experience possible?
I sat in a skybox yesterday, free food and beer are cool but it left a bit to be desired. Better VIP seating would provide a revenue stream for the university. Does anyone have thoughts on larger boxes built closer to the field? I've never done the Dome Club or Coyote Landing but I think they also suffer from being so far from the heart of the action. Front row boxes on the West side with a grandstand built on top/around them could fetch a lot of money.
More permanent parking would be necessary if capacity is expanded, where will that be? If we put parking all the way up to the South side of the SCSC that would make tailgating that much closer to the current area, and also make for a lot shorter walk to the car during basketball season.
Expanded concessions would be nice. I'd like the ability to buy something fried or grilled. Maybe have a dedicated kitchen-style concession stand on each side where we could get something cooked up on the spot.
I think everyone would agree a new sound system is needed. I liked what UND had at the Alerus where there were speakers hanging in front of every section, rather than the one centralized speaker setup we have now.
What else can anyone come up with?

I have two relatively inexpensive requests: Some natural light source (doesn't even need to be windows) and no gray concreate anywhere in the bowl (paint it all white or red).

I have young kids. I know these things, unfortunately. You know who Peppa and George are? Yeah, I've said to much now.
