It's Monday of a new week... time to start discussing the next game. The Sycamores are 0-5 right now. Definitely not a team to overlook though if we want to continue toward our march to the playoffs this year.

Indiana State has had some good games, though they did not translate to wins. I think we win by at least 21 but the team has to take them seriously.

Indiana State has had some good games, though they did not translate to wins. I think we win by at least 21 but the team has to take them seriously. This coaching staff and team has shown me no reason to think they will allow themselves to relax and not take this Indiana St team seriously. They are a Valley team and they can on any given Saturday beat any other team in the Valley. Upsets happen. I do think this will be closer on the scoreboard than some may expect. ISU had 6 turnovers against the Bison. If they did not turn it over as frequently that game would still have been a blowout, but not as large of a blowout. I expect USD to come into the game looking to pound the ball with the rotation of RBs and dominate the game from a physical standpoint- hopefully run Streveler only sparingly. Would be fantastic to just let him drop back and hand off the ball this week. Would be even more fantastic to blow them out in the first half and get Simmons in there for another entire half of FB like at Drake. After rewatching the YSU game last week it is becoming apparent that the USD Silverbacks (OL) and the USD Shopwreckers (DL) have improved significantly year over year. Even though I think either Streveler or Jackson were no-brainer MVFC offensive players of the week, perhaps an even better pick would have been the OL. History aside, anyone watching the game I think would say USD won the battle of the trenches on both sides of the ball against YSU. That is a great sign as I think YSU is solid on both fronts. Great job by our OL and DL coaches to turn what many worried was a weakness into a new strength of the team. Will need to keep getting better every week, USD will be facing some incredible OL/DLs in the weeks to come.

Want to have some fun this week, stop watching the ball and focus in on either specific players from the D-Line or the O-line! As an old line coach, it is a joy to watch the technique on these boys, not to mention how physical we are! I watched the Freshman Schultz for a series and after Coach Bowman gets done with him in the weightroom in the off season, this kid will dominate the MVFC for the next 3 years, and he is already a beast! If any of the other young R-Fr or Fr O-lineman are anything like Ciurej or Scheidegger we can expect a dominant offence for years to come. Great teams are built up front and I love what this staff is doing!

Incredible that the Oline is doing this with a true freshman center and and redshirt freshman tackle, all the shuffling happening due to Jensen going down to injury. Coaches have done an awesome job in recruiting and development.

Coaches have done an awesome job in recruiting and development. My first post ever. The OL has seen huge improvements, but don't sleep on our DL either. As good as they've played, these guys are VERY young. The two-deep rotation is mostly freshman/sophomores with only one senior. Absolutely impressive how these young men have played. We have 22 sacks through Saturday's game by 13 different players! We only had 26 sacks the entire season last year. Really excited to see the big boys upfront on both sides of the ball getting better every week. Go yotes!!

A healthy Jake Leohr for the 2nd half of the season certainly wouldn't hurt either.

Although my son plays on the line, I actually started watching the "line play" during Packer games I went to with my sons middle school football coach, who was a 4 year starter at guard for Indiana, when my son was a RB. Without any disrespect to the others players on the team, as I truly believe a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, given no line changes during the game, more often than not you can tell who's going to win the game after 2 series by each team. It's amazing.

I met quite a few students this weekend and feel they're behind the team... and if our students want to have some fun, they're educated and know max fun will come with having home field advantage throughout the playoffs and pack that dome every game. Want to be an NDSU??? Then the 12th man has to do their part just like NDSUs do! Go Yotes!

It is time to focus solely on Indiana State! This game will be like a playoff game for them to try and knock off the #4 team in the country and start to salvage some of their season. Obviously the cliché that they have nothing to lose certainly applies. I know coaches and players will be focused and so should the fans! I don't care if it's bum day somewhere!

Looking at a statistical analysis.... well, it obviously favors USD. Here are a couple areas we should be careful of, though:
PENALTIES Indy St averages 4.4 per game for 41.4 yards USD averages 8.4 per game for 78.6 yards (worst in conference)
DEEP BALLS Indy St has a low pass completion rate, but has the highest yards-per-completion at 16.1 They could get lucky if we aren't careful. (Watch for Bob Pugh jersey #4. he is #2 in FCS in yards per catch, 31.43!)
TFL TENDENCIES USD is last in the conference in allowing Tackles-for-Loss (8.0) Indy St isn't terrible in getting Tackles-for-Loss (7.4)
