Not to nit pick, but we were 7-0 to start the 2005 season. Not to go off topic in regard to this thread, but the 2005 season still irks me. USD got hosed out of the playoffs. OK, back to Illinois State. the coyotes probably should have made it but they did not take their game on the road with them so their run would have been limited. that year no D2 team would have beaten them at home but they were to jeckyl and Hyde. the offense was incredible.

Yotes favored by 10.5. Weather still looking 75 degrees with no rain. I'm feeling at ease if we are playing in great conditions like that. A win would match the best start to a season that the Coyotes have had since 1902, which was so long ago that the forward pass was not yet legal and touchdowns and field goals were both worth 5 points. The Yotes went 9-0 that year, were not scored upon, and boasted wins over Sioux Falls, Yankton, SD Mines, Yankton, SDSU, Morningside, Omaha Medics, Omaha Medics, and Missouri S&T. Not to nit pick, but we were 7-0 to start the 2005 season. You are correct, that's why I had to say this will match the best start since 1902 rather than stand on its own. I wasn't around for D2 but it's baffling to me that the 05 team didn't get to be in the playoffs. That bracket must have worked drastically different than the FCS one.

In D2 you had to become familiar with the term "Shared Access".

Either way, looking forward to the opportunity to reach 7-0 once again. As a member of the '05 team, we did feel like we got snubbed, but like CF said, we didn't handle our business on the road and payed for it dearly. Hopefully this years team continues its winning ways at ISUr this weekend and does what the '05 team couldn't. early week prediction: Yotes win 42-24 Go Yotes

The official line of -10.5 USD is too wide. It's like seeing a miss-priced stock. I would take ISUr and the points every time. The Red Birds have been inconsistant but the defense is stout. They don't, on a typical day give up many points. They dont give up many yards either.
USD on the other hand is used to getting lots and lots of yards and controlling the ball. The 'Yotes get a lot of 3rd down conversions and keep the drive alive. That wins football games and that is the matchup: USD offense VS. ISU defense.
On the other side of the ball ISU just doesn't score enough. That's why I think YSU will play a great game but come up short. I have it Coyotes by 2 points and haven't given a home field advantage because ISU is on a losing streak.

I don't think the spread is too wide because we are talking about the best offense in FCS taking on a team that just gave up a lot of points in their last 2 contests to lesser offenses to USD's. anytime a game is played with the potential of the favored teams offense the spread should be wider. if it was Youngstown it would be different based upon their conservative style of play.

I agree. I'm not saying it's going to be a blowout but USD should win comfortably. ISUr is bleeding points on defense right now. USD's offense has proven to be better than Southern Illinois and Northern Arizona and those two teams drubbed ISUr.

Neilson wasn't coaching them that year I don't believe but the offense was very similar and we couldn't stop it.

The Illinois State fans sure are looking confident considering their team just had consecutive embarrassments against unranked teams. It's their homecoming though, no one wants to believe they can lose on homecoming.
Kolbe has 3 INTs in each of the past two games for Illinois State. Puzzling, since he only had 7 in 12 games last year. They shouldn't have any breathing room to continue those mistakes. We really haven't taken the ball away from our opponents much this year though, just 9 times on the year.
I'm guessing we pick Kolbe off once, maybe twice, and take care of the ball ourselves. Keep winning the TO battle, keep winning games.

Keep winning the TO battle, keep winning games. Listening to the post game show on the way back home from the ISUb game last week, Coach Yelk made this a point of emphasis. He was asked how he felt about the defenses performance and he said something to the effect of (and I'm paraphrasing here) "It's nice to keep them out of the endzone, but we need to get more takeaways". So hopefully the D comes out with that attitude and gets after the ball and forces some TO's. With the way we've been protecting the football, a few takeaways would be a huge swing in this or any Valley game from here on out.

Keep winning the TO battle, keep winning games. From what I've read, his interception issues are directly tied to an underperforming OL. Our front 7 are VERY fast and need to take advantage of this weakness. A couple takeaways, sacks, strip-sacks will position our offense to keep the birdies out of the game.

Game notes for this week show a change in the LB two deep. Woodward isn't listed (he was listed last week but I don't think he played) and Andy Aune R-Fr has been added to the depth chart.

More than half way through the season and it seems like fans of other MVFC are still underestimating us, or else they're in denial that the Coyotes are for real. Fine with me. Keep taking USD for granted. Still a lot of football to be played, but I don't think we're going away.

I know I am new here, but after following this message board the last few seasons and predicting scores relatively close this year. I am going to throw out a prediction: USD-42 ISU-20. I've spotted 6 pts to ISU for it being their homecoming. However, I expect another 500+ yard day for the offense, a key USD win in the turnover category, and most importantly a Coyote win!
