First of all my prayers go to the young lady involved. First and foremost, her health and safety and well being are heads and tails far more important than any football discussion at the end of the day.
Regarding the football side of it, in the short term it's a black eye for the program initially. How it's handled from here is what the general public will judge the department by moving forward. It's possible to turn a real horrible negative into a positive IF it's handled the way it should be. I absolutely have no qualm of it being handled in any other way than the correct way by both the administration and coaching staff. Recognize it, don't try and cover it up, handle it, and move on.
The team itself is beside itself. They are seething over what happened. They are in sight of a conference title, a potential national championship run, and then this absolutely disgusting stuff happens. One of two things will happen. The first possiblity is they get taken to the wood shed and beaten like a rented mule as teams expose their weakness. It would be an easy excuse to fall back on and absolutely no one, us included, would blame them. The second possibility is this becomes a rallying point for them, and as a team they figure it out, and push themselves to play at the highest level possible to overcome. Given what we have seen this year how would you bet? My money goes on #2 because of the leadership we have both on and off the field. Anything short of Chris being out of the game, he alone will put that team on his shoulders and take them to the finish line. Wessels ( although not playing ) will provide big time leadership getting his teammates ready to play. Then the best coaching staff in the Valley will do their thing and finish the deal. In truth, the last three games had me nervous...not anymore. If we don't have any farther injuries, this team will overcome this situation and do so in a big way. I'm fully convinced the character of this team has been put in question, and we ( the general public ) will see, and learn, just how good of young men we have representing USD despite the recent incident.
No excuses from them, no excuses from us. Let's beat the $hit out of UNi and take our road show to Fargo and make it two in a row up there. I'm pumped for this game.

With all due respect, can i suggest the comments above go into a new thread so that those of us that would like to talk about the players that work hard to try to win their upcoming game can? Let's not make this more of a distraction than it already is.

Otherwise i think they'll just keep occurring in this one.

I was surprised that this wasn't being discussed or maybe I just missed it. Man you guys finally seem to be turning the corner and then these knuckleheads do this crap. Man this could really derail what was a good season going for you guys.

Based on the details that just came out, these two are done. Have to assume Harris was the "third male". No alcohol. Feel terrible for the woman.

Harris isn't coming back.
"The victim told police that the third man did not seem surprised that Rambo and Williamson entered the room. She also said he did not ask them to leave the room."

Realizing that not everyone will agree with this, here is my thought: This isn't a USD thing anymore - it is in the hands of the police who will do what they do. I will treat this much the way as when someone who gets fired for a DWI - wonder what in the world they were thinking, realize they weren't thinking straight at all, and let them deal with the consequences as the rest of the company gets back to work. Those guys rescinded their 'USD affiliation' (athlete or otherwise) when they walked into that room. Even if they are found not-guilty of breaking the law, they did not meet higher standards that come with that affiliation. If USD administration does anything to prevent the due process of the investigation (they haven't and won't), then this is a black-eye for USD - ala Florida State. But since that is not the case, I take issue with this even being labeled USD news. It is criminal news and the USD connection is just an irrelevant detail. As for the football team, I suspect there will be some addition by subtraction, as seemed to be the case already this past Saturday. I'm moving on, and won't be posting on or reading this thread, in large part because the victim will not be helped by 20 pages of talking about this. I trust VPD will do their job from here. When you decide to check back into reality let me know. Like it or not and fair or not it will be tied at the hip with USD. If in the end if they didn't do anything wrong and the criminal justice system were to find them not guilty USD will find itself just as Montana did when their last incident where a player was brought up on charges was found not guilty. If however as in other cases as in the past where it's proved they are guilty well like it or not they were members of the USD football team at the time of the incident and like it or not reflects poorly on USD. It is what it is. There are no winners in a deal like that.

I'm taking a hard line on this. I really don't want to see them in a USD uniform again. I could give a damn if they "hold resentment" against the school. I hold resentment against them for putting the team and university in this light. We don't need this sort of stench surrounding the program; there're too many good kids on the team. They made their choices and they can deal with the result. If they're found guilty they'll have to deal with the consequences and if exonerated there will be another university where they can continue their education, which should be their priority anyway, and maybe play some ball. I also think that the university is doing a good job in its handling of this situation so far. They're taking it seriously and not trying to sweep it under the rug like an FSU. I agree. Statistically, although exact figures are hard to come by, rape is vastly under-reported. Compounding that is a very low conviction success rate. Many victims of rape choose to never come forward, or drop the charges rather than go through the difficult process of seeing a conviction through. Victim-blaming and harassment of the accusers is a common occurrence in these types of trials. Especially for athletes. For all of those reasons I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to an accuser. I just hope that this is an isolated incident, and not (like many athletic departments across the country) a systemic problem.

I do NOT know details of this unfortunate incident, but I am in Law Enforcement so I am knowledgeable about the process once these kind of allegations are made. The school holds title IX responsibilities in which this investigation is not of a criminal nature, it is purely to decide the accused persons destiny as far as the school is concerned for example (kicked out of school completely, suspended from sports but still may attend school if on scholarship on their own dime, designated suspension time frame for school and or sports etc.) A title IX investigation has nothing to do with a criminal investigation. Once reported to the police of the jurisdiction in which alleged crime took place then a criminal investigation is started. A police officer takes the preliminary report that gives preliminary basic information and crimes that can be charged. It then gets passed on to the assigned detectives. The detectives then start a criminal investigation. Once they get enough information in which they decide whether they have a enough for a substantiated crime or not and if so what crime committed, then they write an affidavit and submit it to the DA. The affidavit list the "fruits of the alleged crime" or crimes and and request arrest warrants. A designated Judge decides whether they have enough information to approve arrest warrants. Once approved they can go make the arrest of said individuals in which they are charged with crime and bond set. Bond is set depending on severity of crime and all other circumstances. Again this is just an explanation of the process which may differ a bit from state to state. Title IX is Title IX. I pray for all involved in this unfortunate allegation and incident. Everybody that has some connection with USD at any level is affected.

Rambo and Williamson will not play again after reading that. Harris' situation is weird to me, don't know what to think there.
