After the way things are playing out of recent I do think a win over SDSU is a must for this to be considered a successful season. A team just cannot finish a season 1-4 after starting 6-0 and consider that a good thing. They always say all is well that ends well. I think the opposite would definitely apply here.
Considering that SDSU almost always beats USD in the sports that matter and in the games that matter the most that is also another factor in this as well. It would be tough to swallow losing at home to them especially after what happened to the Men's hoops team in last years semi-final.

Not necessarily, if we lose to State, but still make the playoffs and make some noise....you could argue that it was a good season. If we lose to State and miss the playoffs that argument would be much tougher.
Obviously this is year #2 for the coaching staff and fans will have different opinions of what a "good season" entails. But, going into the season I think other teams in our conference had different expectations of what a "good season" looks like.

Tired of losing to those turds. Time to make a statement and shut them up. most fickle bunch of mouth breathers ever...4 weeks ago they wanted to fire their coach, now they think that they are Gods gift to the Dakota's.
Go Yotes

I don't know about anyone else but I just go back to the Summit Tourney last March. That was the ultimate punch in the gut for Coyote fans, that is Coyote fans that really do actually mind losing to this team. I was numb for at least an hour after the game. I felt like a close friend or relative died when walking out of that arena that night. It really did feel like their was a higher power that has just decided to repeatedly torture Coyote fans. We are now 0-3 as favorites against the SDSU teams at the Summit Tourney. I think the total record against them at the tourney is in the neighborhood of 1-6. The football team hasn't won in like forever against the Jacks and has probably won a total of maybe 4 times in the last 20 match ups. That is just plain unacceptable.
I could care less about next year because this is the year and it has to be a win on this Saturday, not 2019 or 2021. We need to start thinking "Now" and forget about next year because next year never comes. Can you imagine the water cooler talk, the media questions and the stigma that will follow around this team if they start 6-0 and end up 1-4 and miss the playoffs. The Coyotes were considered a lock to be in the playoffs by multiple sources and are now are in the category of needing one more win or being very nervous come selection day. If the Coyotes lose to the Jacks it is nearly irrelevant to me whether or not they make the playoffs unless they win at least 2 games in the post season and that is very unlikely. A one and done in Montana doesn't sound like a very pleasing way to end the season but even with a win the Coyotes put themselves in a near impossible situation anyway with a trip to Brookings or Fargo facing them.
I can't believe people can actually consider a 1-4 finish, a loss to the biggest rival and a possible missed playoff berth all on one big thump anything but a colossal collapse. Remember when the Coyotes were supposed to be an elite program only a few short weeks ago. You don't go from elite to missing the playoffs and consider that a success.
If the Coyotes win, then by all means they salvage the season and we can breathe easier but if not it will take awhile to live this one down. I read on the Bison board and one of their fans called us a paper tiger. Many people are claiming that the Coyotes really haven't beaten anyone that good and they are starting to have a point. If the Coyotes lose to the Jacks they will be 1-4 against all other teams in conversation for the post season from the MVFC. I know 3 of the 4 conference wins are against the worst teams in the league.
As a fan base it is time to lay all the chips down. It's all in against the Jacks who we never beat. That game will decide whether this season is a success or not. No one other then a few red kool-aid drinking fans will even remember the 6-0 start. Everyone will remember the finish. It's time to put up or shut up as a program. I can tell you this much. If any other good program in FCS started 6-0 and finished 1-4 and missed the playoffs there would be a huge uprising within their fans, especially if that happened in either Brookings or Fargo. Why should it be any different here.
