16 point loss is about the best case scenario. Can't believe we only got 3 points from Mooney and still got to 80.
Fuller is showing a lot of promise. I thought Smith would get the best out of him and it's exciting to see him improving.
I thought Carlton would slow down Tripster. Hurst still got a spotlight though, I loved having his weight room record lift on national TV.

This Coyote team has good depth! The Coyote bench out scored Duke's bench 44 to 25 which is good news for Yote fans and somewhat surprising!

If you would have told me that Sparks would have outscored Manning and Mooney put together I would have thought we lost by a lot more than 16. They looked good that second half. Duke is a whole different animal from what we are used to seeing. It took a while to adjust playing against that kind of athleticism and knowing what you can and can't get away with.

Go into the toughest environment in college hoops against the No. 1 team and No. 1 NBA draft pick and don't get embarrassed with your top player scoring 3 points?
That's pretty much a win to me.

I am really liking this Coyote team and it is harder to be much happier about how they have started the year but we have to get real for a moment. The Coyotes were down by 27 with about 6:00 to go and the Blue Devils let off the gas. If they would have kept their best players in the game and/or kept their motivation level up they could have easily won by over 30. The final score isn't an indication of how much Duke dominated this game. Duke is supposed to dominate this game and they were dominating the boards. They also were barely missing for much of the game. I am going to judge the Coyotes on what they do vs UMKC well before I judge what they do against Duke. This is good exposure for the Coyotes and this a a real treat for those players but let's not mistake this game as a good performance by the Coyotes because it wasn't and all along it wasn't supposed to be. They were put into a near impossible situation and you really can't take away much of anything from this game.

Got to give Coach K some credit - Duke could have came out slow/unfocused knowing they have the size to turn it on. But they came out with crazy intensity. Especially Allen - who I think was trying to show up Mooney a bit.
What did Duke trot out there - 6 or 7 lottery picks over the next couple years? Impressive for the Yotes.

BTW - I have to think Streveler could be a defensive machine in MBB, and BVR a solid 3. Sign 'em up coach.

I wasn't as focused on this game as I would have liked but one thing that stood out was how well Duke played especially when it came to the hustling stats like rebounding. Duke was barely missing and the Coyotes really couldn't be faulted for anything other than running into the #1 team in the land on their home court and having them play well against you. The Coyotes did look nervous at times but what can they really do. Duke did what Duke does.

Well Duke is as talented as advertised--tall, long, athletic, can shoot the 3 and plays really good D. What a great experience for the Coyotes to play in that setting!! I was there. Duke's defense was super great, then floundered for the last 25 minutes of the game. The Coyotes played well for that stretch, although Duke's lead by then was too much. I'm still frustrated that my Devils haven't putting together a solid 40 minutes of intensity since the Michigan State game, but I'm confident Coach Krzyzewski will address that. Coyotes looked pretty good (#25 especially) and y'all (southern for second person plural) had a surprising number of red festooned fans in Cameron. I hope your fans had a chance to enjoy the mild weather and some great pork barbeque.

I was there as well and it was an amazing experience. The duke fans we talked to were great both before and after, wanted to know all about our team before and were also very complementary afterwards.
I thought duke really knocked back Mooney and played with alot of intensity as noted all over this thread early on. Clearly wanted to make life tough for mooney with grayson all over him, as well as Duke bigs stepping way out on ball screens, essentially forcing Mooney to give up the ball. I rewatched the game last night and thought Mooney passed on alot of shots he would normally take in the middle/later parts of the game. He was clearly out of sync, which is probably why he sat on the bench alot the 2nd half. I also think our defense was uncharacteristically nonexistent the first 10 minutes, especially in transition and on ball screens. We really had that deer in the headlights look that you often see of teams in Cameron.
Coach K was quite nice to USD both during the game with his subbing the 2nd half, as well as praising smith and USD in his postgame presser. A lot of positives to take away from this game. USD took Duke's best punch and responded with some nice runs and spurts of their own. I think Nick Fuller, as well as Peterson and Armstrong, are finding their roles on this team and settling in. Those 3 were huge in this game, and have made their presence felt over the last several games.
