Doubtful, I think. They don’t have the facilities for it. Plenty of teams in the Pioneer League with tiny stadiums.

Does anyone know if Saint Thomas is going to be playing FCS scholarship football. I certainly hope so because the Summit's goal should be to only include schools that do so. I would favor UNC because they could get the conference closer to a true all sports conference. The further away SD and the Summit can get from having non football schools making decisions from them the better. They’re going Pioneer League, non-scholarship.

As much as I'd like for UST to help us strengthen Valley/Summit football, I think the route they are pursuing is probably the smartest strategy for them. Think of it as the "Big East" model.
Rich, private schools in large metro areas that all focus on Men's Basketball, and either don't play scholarship football, or aren't good at it (Villanova is an exception). Many play Niche sports like Hockey and Lacrosse, too.
If Denver got better at basketball, they'd be a poster child for this, too. Omaha isn't private, but chose to drop football and focus on Hockey. To a large extent, I think that was smart. They were always going to be overshadowed by Husker football, anyway.
If UST gets good at men's basketball, they would explode in popularity in MSP, I think. Lots of potential.

I’m sure they’re looking at Marquette and Creighton and thinking “we can do that”. Anyone can leave the league. Ideally, the addition of UST will raise all programs and make the league a hard one to leave (and maybe a desired one to join - who wouldn’t love having UNI in the Summit?)

As a lifelong Gopher fan I think it would be funny if St Thomas started beating the U of M in many of the competing sports within 5 years especially men's basketball and hockey. The Gophers are supposed to be a blue blood in hockey but it is a stretch to say they actually are.

I expect St Thomas to get there in time...if not soon.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Krabbenhoft has been forced into retirement and a former USD football player has taken over Sanford. Augustana to the Summit finally, thankfully, seems like something we never have to hear about again.

Probably not a good idea that Krabbenhoft suggested he didn't need to wear a mask as the CEO of a health care conglomerate. He got what he deserved or maybe that had nothing to do with it. He seemed arrogant to me. Good to see a USD guy take over.

Unfortunately I don’t think Augie to the Summit is dead just yet, it should be though IMO. Augie added a few sports, which make me wonder if they don’t have a plan to go a different route, like WAC, and then try to get into the summit after the transition is complete. If they do that though they’ll never survive long enough to make it to the summit.

I would think their travel budget would be off the charts in the WAC.

Do they have any money at all if they don't have Sanford bankrolling the whole thing? I doubt the future CEO in Utah cares to pay for it.

Yeah, you might find out how devoted Kelby is to the idea if it has to become his own 💵 to bankroll them.

WAC is trying to consolidate their footprint into the Southwest US and be the FCS conference of that region and the Big Sky be the Northwest US FCS conference. Why would the WAC invite Augustana? Defeats the purpose.

Augustana is back in the news. Information coming out the Vikings are starting a D1 hockey program. I can see this. D1 hockey, D2 everything else. Same model as a few other NSIC schools.

I guess I don't follow Augie news too much, but wasn't their whole plan to go D1 to compete in basketball? I thought that was kind of the idea that they would try and join the SL for basketball purposes and see if the MVFC would give them a shot as well.
