That discusses the lot between Prairie Inn and the USD Foundation. I tried finding something on the grass lot by the Holiday Inn, as well as across Cottage over by the Eye Clinic/Walmart, but struck out. It sounds like an ambitious project. I wonder what the rent will be.
Searching the Plain Talk website I learned that OLC is planning to build a rooftop bar though. That's excellent news. I also see the music museum is closing it's doors Oct. 6 to start preparation for expansion.

I would like to know what is going on with the Prairie Inn/Howlers/Bowling Alley. The place looks abandoned and the parking lot is starting to take on weeds. I know that Howlers is closed, is the Prairie and bowling alley closed too? Any chance somebody buys Howlers and reopens by September?

Try living 4 to a room in a cinder block room at Julian Hall with no A/C. Then moving off campus into some seriously nasty rental houses or trailers. Students today have nice on-campus and off-campus housing options.

The word is the Coyote Village Foundation is junk and will not be safe to live in a couple of years and will have to be torn down. They have also sold the lanes out of the bowling alley.

It will NOT be ready in 2018.

Smells like a lawsuit. That has been a rumor swirling since it opened. I’ve been told that there is no truth to the rumor Coyote Village was built on a sinkhole and has to be torn down.

For the record, the complex being built between the foundation and Prairie inn is on the piece of land the SAE alumni owned and had planned to build their new house, but instead sold it to a developer (school had their chance but didn’t want to pay for it) and they are using that money to fund building their new house on their parking lot across from their existing house. So that development has nothing to do with USD and any Coyote Village replacement.

I've never heard a sniff about the demise of Coyote Village. Wonder who started that rumor? Pizza Ranch is going to be taking over the south portion of the former Howlers in what used to be the events center. The old bar/restaurant portion supposedly has someone interested in the space, but needs to obtain a liquor license. The bowling alley portion is dead and gone. It would have cost way too much to refurbish it. Have no idea on any timeline for these projects.

The University has nothing to do with the apartment complex, and coyote village is not being torn down. A group of investors bought the howlers building for a group that was going to bring Pizza Ranch to Vermillion, the remodel project was too expensive for the Pizza Ranch people and as far as I know the pizza ranch will not be moving into that space. The investors sold off the liquor license that was with the property to the brick house. If someone wants a liquor license for the facility they will have to buy an existing one (good luck with that!) or it will need to be a hospitality liquor license and will have to have atleast 60% (I believe is the number) of its revenue come from the sale of food.

60% is doable in that space. Howlers sold a lot of food too.
So there is no more bowling alley in Vermillion? That's a bummer.

Coyote Village opened my sophomore year of school. I'd wager I talked to at least a hundred people who lived there. The consensus is that it's a piece of crap, but not because of foundation issues. Everything inside is cheap and likely to break. I remember year 1 residents talking about shower heads just falling off. Still completely separate from the private developments across Dakota Street.

Thanks for bringing this to light. I guess it's moot now anyways according to a post above. I can't believe a bar across the street from a D1 venue and largely upper classmen housing can't figure out a way to succeed. I understand why Howler's failed, horrible management, but it seems like a no brainer for someone else to swoop in and have success. Pro's seemed to be doing pretty well during the short window I had to go there once I was 21.

Some one who'd I consider to be reliable told me that work was already being done on the inside. I'll sniff it out next time I'm over that way and see if anything's happening.
