footballscoop.com/the-scoop/Kent State: Sunday evening we reported Kent State AD Joel Nielsen had targeted South Dakota head coach Bob Nielson for his head coaching position (with note that we understood this one to be a challenging close). Local reports subsequently confirmed Nielson as the target of the search. Today however, Nielson told local reporter Jay Elsen he is “the head coach at South Dakota and plan to be for the future.” Sounds like Kent State remains on the look.

I'll still be anxious until I hear extension figures from a reliable source.

I feel like Jay is fairly reliable, but yes, I want a picture of him and the team at mid-field of the Dome like Coach Smith did. Assuming this to be true, very relieved. Not just for Bob, but to retain his staff. Loved what those guys were doing. Hoping to see it continue.

Football Scoop trying to save face......they are now football poop to me.

Everything about Bob's move to Vermillion led me to believe that he would be in for the long haul. The Kent State rumors really caught me off guard, especially given how poor of a job it is, but it's a great way to get yourself paid.
Now let's hope Nielson doesn't confirm he is staying and then leave anyways. WIU fans are real bitter about that.

Does anyone know if Nielson got a raise and an extention.

Jay just said on KWSN that he called Bob and was given the blessing to tweet that he was staying, so I'd say that's pretty reliable.

Jay Elsen basically just said they are working on the details of an extension. Not sure when officially done.

I have no problem with Bob getting a pay raise and an extension. He has produced results so far and I feel there are many more results to come. This is the world of D1 athletics, it's a business and results oriented industry, so we may as well get used to it.
I am interested to hear the contract details, and then interested to listen to the Jacks fans complain and whine about "how are they going to pay for that?" Mind your own business, how about that?

I tend to agree with this, but if a team like, say, an Iowa State, Minnesota or something like that came sniffing, I wouldn't begrudge him for one second. Kent State, or any school in the MAC for that matter, didn't make any sense at his stage in coaching. I realize that he could be coaching for another 10 years, but I don't see him going someplace that he cannot see himself legitimately competing for championships. You can do it in the MVFC, whether you believe it is possible from USD or not is your own prerogative (not directed at you, Yotes).

So Herbster has punked Drake and now Kent State trying to steal our coaches. Bigger schools (Like Nebraska) will certainly have the upper hand, but at least we are setting some ground rules that not every FBS football or mid-major Basketball program is a better job than South Dakota.

Sorry, too late. Chip Kelly already told UCLA that he and the Ball family are coming to USD.

That will never happen though, he'd have to go through a MAC type school first. Not even Craig Bohl could parlay unprecedented FCS success into a Power 5 job. At 58 I don't think he wants to spend 5 years trying to make the Little Caesar's Bowl then hoping that's good enough to get the Purdue job. He isn't your typical "climb the coaching ladder" type of guy, judging by his 13 years at UMD and move within the MVFC. If he was ever going to go to the MAC it would have been straight from WIU.

From KELO:
So the story is that he knew he was staying yesterday, but didn't leak it. So all the reports about him being on campus was bunk. I somehow doubt that there was zero dialog, however. LOL!
